She was a Swiss-German actress known for her role on Die Fallers - Die SWR Schwarzwaldserie.

In 1994 she got the leading role of the Black Forest farmer Johanna Faller in the television series Die Fallers - Eine Schwarzwaldfamilie, which first made her known in Baden-Württemberg and later throughout Germany. In February 2022, she announced that she would be retiring from the series after around 27 years for personal reasons. Due to the episodes that had already been filmed long ago, it was still on view for the entire year. In the 1164th episode entitled Last Journey, broadcast on January 1, 2023, her character then died a serial death.

After training as an actor and studying speech training at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart, she worked as an assistant director at the theater and had teaching positions at universities.

From 1991 to 1994 she was head of speech training, moderation and work in front of the camera at Swiss Television (SF DRS).

From 2003 to 2022 Cantieni was a permanent member of the team of the quiz show Sag die Wahrheit.

Her cookbook Ursula Cantienis Kochgeschichten was published in 2002. She also distributed various culinary specialties via her own website.

She received in 2005 'The medal of merit' from the state of Baden-Württemberg.

In 2012, she received German citizenship.

From 1974 to 1978 she held a professorship for speech training at the Folkwang School in Essen (Germany).

From 1978 she worked as an actress. Until 1987 in permanent engagements at the Württembergische Landesbühne in Esslingen am Neckar and at the Stadttheater Konstanz.
