Alexander Baron(1917-1999)

British novelist and screenwriter born into a working-class East London Jewish family.

My work as a journalist did not help me to develop technically as a writer; I learned to deal in second-hand thoughts and phrases and had to struggle later to overcome the habit. However, my travels about Britain among all conditions of people, together with my childhood experiences in the poorer quarters of London, laid the foundation for my future literary work.
