Kerry Washington is returning to the New York stage in 2026!
The former Scandal actress previously appeared on Broadway in the plays Race and American Son and now she’ll be performing in the Off-Broadway production of The Whoopi Monologues, written by Whoopi Goldberg.
Kerry will be joined in the show by Tony winner Kara Young, as well as more performers to be announced soon.
Whoopi originally premiered the play in 1984 as a one-woman show on Broadway, but it’s being reworked for a new production directed by Tony nominee Whitney White.
The show will be performed at Lincoln Center Theater’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater with performances beginning in July 2026.
Kerry is a two-time Tony Award nominee for her producing work on Broadway, including as a producer on the current revival of Gypsy. We’ll find out if she wins this weekend!

The hosts of “The View” were pretty disgusted with Iowa senator Joni Ernst on Monday morning, after the politician defended the number of people that could die by being forcibly taken off Medicaid by saying “we’re all going to die.” But, at least one of the ABC hosts found a bright spot to that town hall.
Ernst made the comment to constituents last week, and following the outrage it prompted, doubled down by posting a video of her taking a walk through a cemetery, mocking the anger voters were feeling.
“I made an incorrect assumption that everyone in the auditorium understood that, yes, we are all going to perish from this earth,” she said. “So I apologize. And I’m really, really glad that I did not have to bring up the subject of the tooth fairy as well.”

The cohosts of The View were unanimous during Monday’s (June 2) new live episode when it came to the subject of Iowa Senator Joni Ernst’s controversial comments at a town hall. The Republican senator caused a firestorm when, during a discussion of how Donald Trump‘s “Big Beautiful Bill” will negatively impact funding for Medicaid, she said, “Well, we’re all going to die.” She then doubled down on her statement over the weekend by posting a video taken in a graveyard on Instagram in which she declared, “I made an incorrect assumption that everyone in the auditorium understood that, yes, we are all going to perish from this earth… So I apologize, and I’m really, really glad that I did not have to bring up the subject of the tooth fairy as well.” Whoopi Goldberg was the first to speak in response to footage of both statements and said plainly,...

When Reginald Hudlin received a call from Jamie Foxx and producer Datari Turner in 2019 saying that they wanted to make a movie about leading Black actors in Hollywood, he was all in.
“It was kind of a no-brainer,” says Hudlin, director of Apple TV+’s Number One on the Call Sheet. “As we started talking through the idea, it was pretty obvious that there was more than enough talent to feature in this film. In fact, we needed to restructure this movie so it was even bigger — hence, Shola Lynch.”
Lynch came on board to direct the film on Black leading women in Hollywood, while Hudlin was at the helm for the film on Black leading men. Together they make up the two-part docuseries in which some 30 A-listers, from Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg and Viola Davis to Denzel Washington, Will Smith and Eddie Murphy, discuss their journeys as entertainers.

Whoopi Goldberg slammed President Donald Trump for promoting a conspiracy theory of white genocide in South Africa and claimed he has never put his “middle finger down” at the black community.
On an episode of The View, the hosts discussed Trump’s meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa, where they talked about the alleged persecution of white farmers. The conspiracy theory has resulted in the president fast-tracking the processing of white South Africans to the United States.
“There’s no white genocide. There’s not a genocide happening,” Goldberg scoffed. “There is crime, as there is all over the world. But it’s not about killing off white people. This is just straight —,” she said as her voice got cut off.
“That was gas,” she joked when the audio returned.

Patrick Swayze was one of a kind. He’s the only actor I can think of who was as comfortable cutting a rug on the dance floor as demolishing a room full of bad guys with his fists of fury. When he passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2009, we lost an icon who was never really recognized as the legend he is in his time. In the years since many Patrick Swayze movies have become cult favourites, and with a Road House remake recently a hit, we decided now would be a good time to pick the five best Patrick Swayze movies.

John Millius’s cold war “what if” thriller goes down in the history books as the first-ever PG-13 movie. It was also Patrick Swayze’s first major leading role, with him best known up to this point for a supporting role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders.

Former congressman and convicted sex offender Anthony Weiner stopped by “The View” on Friday morning, and while he was there, the ABC hosts pulled no punches when it came to addressing his past scandals.
To introduce the man, moderator Joy Behar (Whoopi Goldberg does not appear on the show on Fridays) reminded the audience of his “series of, shall we say, sexting scandals” and then wryly asked the audience to “please welcome the very contrite Anthony Weiner.” When Behar asked if “contrite” was the right adjective, Weiner agreed but immediately took the opportunity to swipe at a past political interview on the show.
“Yeah. By the way, was this where Kamala Harris was sitting when she blew up her campaign?” Weiner quipped. “Was this the spot? I hope I don’t have the same fate.”

President Donald Trump’s trade policy has a new nickname: Taco trade. And, as a result, “The View” host Ana Navarro expects Taco Tuesdays to be banned nationwide pretty soon.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Taco is an acronym recently bestowed by financial analysts after Trump’s fluctuating tariffs. It stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out” — as he’s promised and then walked back tariff rates multiple times — and when the president was asked about it by a reporter, he immediately lashed out in anger.
But, discussing the nickname on Thursday’s episode of “The View,” the ABC hosts were thoroughly amused by the term. Although, they do expect it to impact meal options going forward.
“I’m waiting for them to ban Taco Tuesday any moment now,” Ana Navarro joked.
But, speaking more seriously about it, Navarro called the acronym a healthy dose of karma. “As if we needed another reason to love tacos.

The cohosts of The View were in a bit of a celebratory mood on Thursday (May 29) morning’s live show when discussing the first “Hot Topic” of the day. The subject was a two-parter, coupling the news that Elon Musk is now leaving the so-called Department of Government Efficiency — with public criticism of Donald Trump‘s “Big Beautiful” spending bill, no less — and that Trump was directly asked about Wall Street’s new nickname for his tariffs policy, Taco, which stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out.” Whoopi Goldberg started the conversation out with a comedy beat at Musk’s expense. After Joy Behar joked that the show’s theme song (Leona Lewis‘ “This Version”) sounded like it was saying “virgin,” Goldberg said, “Speaking of virgins, Elon Musk is exiting his White House position as head of Doge with some pointed remarks about his boss.” The live audience certainly understood the...

Donald Trump pardoned convicted fraudsters and fellow former reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley on Tuesday, drawing ire from the hosts of “The View” on Wednesday morning. For the ABC hosts, it’s just further proof that “there is a huge ‘For Sale’ sign on the lawn of the White House.”
The Chrisleys were originally charged with tax evasion and bank fraud back in 2019, during the first Trump administration. Teeing up the discussion on Wednesday, moderator Whoopi Goldberg was visibly exhausted and bothered, asking “is anybody going to have a problem with this, or — because this is the law and order president — or are people already numb to this?”
Host Joy Behar definitely had a problem with it though.

This is also graduation weekend for the next generation of U.S. armed forces, and here is how You Know Who addressed the military families at Arlington National Cemetery and West Point,” Whoopi Goldberg said to introduce the clip, which spliced together fragments of Trump’s speech, including when he talked about trophy wives, his upcoming military/birthday parade, and how he is grateful to have missed having his second term during Joe Biden‘s presidency because he gets to preside over the U.S.-hosted Olympics and other major events. “Can you imagine? The View‘s cohost panel looks a bit different this week. Sunny Hostin, it was announced at the top of Tuesday’s (May 27) show, will be absent for the entire week. Why is the cohost out of commission for the talk show right now? Whoopi Goldberg revealed that the prosecutor-turned-tv star is out of town for the week to celebrate the graduation of her son, Gabriel Hostin, who is matriculating from college at Harvard University. “So we have to tell you that Sunny is out this week because she’s attending our son’s college graduation,” Goldberg explained, joking that Gabriel is her son, too. “He is graduating from Harvard. It’s so wonderful.” “Just in time,” Joy Behar added, with the tongue-in-cheek remark likely referring to the Ivy League university’s ongoing dispute with Donald Trump and his administration. “Congratulations, Gabriel,” Goldberg continued. “We knew you could, and now you did.

After Lady Gaga won the Best Music Direction Sports Emmy for her pre-Super Bowl performance of "Hold My Hand," most of the media coverage around the honor (including Gold Derby's) focused on one major implication.
Gaga is just a Tony Award away from achieving Egot status.
As iconically coined by Miami Vice star Philip Michael Thomas and later popularized by fictional Egot aspiree Tracy Jordan of 30 Rock, the acronymic honor is bestowed upon anyone who wins an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. And since Gaga already has a pile of Grammys (14) and an Oscar for cowriting "Shallow" from A Star Is Born, the Sports Emmy would make her just one trophy shy of joining the likes of Elton John, Audrey Hepburn, and Rita Moreno.

Remember the American Comedy Awards?
No problem if you don’t — the honors, intended to become the Oscars of funny business, launched in 1987 and were dead in the water by 2001. (NBC tried to revive them in 2014; that half-hearted effort lasted a single year.) But the initial broadcast was impressive, mainly because big comedy stars actually showed up for the event.
Check out this list of presenters from the first show: George Carlin, Roseanne Barr, Gilbert Gottfried, Whoopi Goldberg, Lily Tomlin, the cast of The Golden Girls, Shirley MacLaine and Pee-wee Herman, for starters. That wouldn’t have been a bad guest list for SNL50.
1987 was a mixed-bag year for comedy. There was Carlin calling out the nominees for the year’s Funniest Newcomer, a list that somehow included Alf. Another Woody — pre-pariah Woody Allen — took home Funniest Actor in a Motion Picture for Hannah and Her Sisters.

Despite battling a cold that left her noticeably hoarse, Whoopi Goldberg was back at The View table on Thursday, May 15, proving once again that the show’s heartbeat doesn’t skip easily—even when under the weather.
Goldberg, who had missed Wednesday’s episode, returned to join Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin for the show’s signature “Hot Topics” segment.
While her presence was a comfort to viewers, it was clear she wasn’t at her usual energetic self. Her voice, scratchy and subdued, gave it away.

During the first “Hot Topics” segment on Friday’s (May 16) episode of The View, the panelists (sans Whoopi Goldberg) discussed the new book Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, which was written by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson. Alyssa Farah Griffin brought up a shocking claim made in the book: Joe Biden didn’t recognize George Clooney at a June 2024 fundraiser the actor was co-hosting while the former president was running for a second term. Griffin expressed how flabbergasted she was by the story, which prompted Joy Behar to quip, “Well, he looks different lately.” The audience roared in laughter, and Behar stood by her comment. “He does!” she confirmed. Behar introduced the topic of the book by playing a video of Tapper admitting that it was tough for him to get Democrats to speak on the record.

After a one-day absence from The View‘s live panel, Whoopi Goldberg returned to the table on Thursday (May 15) to join cohosts Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin in their “Hot Topics” discussions. Only, she was a little worse for the wear, with an audibly scratchy voice. After the first group discussion, which centered on the controversial congressional testimonies of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kristi Noem, the show went to break. When it returned, Goldberg addressed the matter of her crackling voice before introducing the second topic. “So before I go any further, I have to explain what’s happening. Have a cold, and it’s kicking my behind. Yes, it is. And it’s not making me cranky, but it’s making me quiet. So I’m not funny today,” she said. She then got some support from her cohosts. “Oh you’re funny,...

On Wednesday’s (May 14) new episode of The View, the panelist lineup looked a bit different than it usually does this time of the week. Whoopi Goldberg, who is usually present and moderating on Wednesday episodes, was unexpectedly absent from the lineup, so Joy Behar took the lead with Ana Navarro coming along early to join ranks with Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin. Behar announced the reason for Goldberg’s absence at the top of the hour. “Whoopi’s got some kind of little bug,” she explained, clarifying, “Not Covid, though, not Covid. She was wearing a mask yesterday. She wasn’t feeling well, but she’s coming back tomorrow — supposedly, if she feels better.” Goldberg was previously present for the live shows on Monday and Tuesday, in which she engaged in the cohost’s spirited discussions of Donald Trump‘s very controversial $400 million plane gift from...

On Tuesday (May 13), the cohosts of The View chose to talk about Donald Trump‘s newest executive order pushing for the lowering of certain prescription weight-loss drugs, and they were particularly taken with his comments coinciding with it for their “Hot Topic” chat. Highly neurotic, brilliant businessman, seriously overweight, and he takes the fat shot drug, and he called me up, ‘I’m in London, and I just paid for this damn fat drug I take.’ I said, ‘It’s not working.’… He said, I just paid $88, and in New York, I paid $1,300 what the hell is going on?” Whoopi Goldberg criticized the measure for being unspecific and added, “If you’re going to...

The Trump administration is set to accept a luxury jet from Qatar in the coming weeks, to be used in place of the current Air Force One plane, and the move is drawing concern from even his own allies. On Monday, the hosts of “The View” were simply baffled by the move.
That’s largely because, during their own time working in government — host Sunny Hostin was a former federal prosecutor and host Alyssa Farah Griffin served in the first Trump administration — even small gifts were not allowed. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg has never worked for the government, and she noted she experienced the rule herself.
“I’ve known several presidents through their birthdays, and you know, you go and you bring them a present; they’re not allowed to take a dumb little present,” she recalled. “Like a dumb little present.”

Over the weekend, Donald Trump defended his decision to accept a $400 million luxury plane from Qatar’s royal family to be used as Air Force One and then as his own personal plane after he leaves office. Trump said it was a “gift, free of charge” and his acceptance would be “transparent.” Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed the Qatari government wouldn’t expect something in return. On Monday’s (May 12) show, The View‘s cohosts cried foul about the matter, calling it “illegal” and “a national security risk” for the United States. The first to speak on the matter was moderator Whoopi Goldberg, who channeled her valley girl voice to introduce the subject before saying, “I’ve known several presidents [and on their birthday] they’re not allowed to take a dumb little present.” Sunny Hostin was the next to speak on the matter and brought her experience as a lawyer...

Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, appeared on The View to discuss Kamala Harris’ future and his rivalry with Donald Trump, and they rebuffed suggestions of Biden’s cognitive decline in 2024.
During a joint interview on the talk show on May 8, Biden was asked what Harris plans to do next. He stated he last spoke to her on May 7 and that they speak to each other frequently. He also mentioned that she has “a difficult decision to make about what she’s going to do. I hope she stays fully engaged. I think she’s first-rate, but we have a lot of really good candidates as well. So I’m optimistic – I’m not pessimistic – about the future.”
Last week, it was revealed that Biden’s campaign team chose not to have him take a cognitive test in February 2024 because they feared it would raise more questions about his age.

A star of Goodfellas praises Ray Liotta for helping them through the movie, 35 years after making the Martin Scorsese gangster classic. The Henry Hill actor was a relative unknown before taking the lead role in Scorsese’s 1990 mob movie comeback. But Liotta was no longer unknown after co-starring with the likes of Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in Goodfellas, and remained a prolific character actor until his death in 2022.
It emerges now that Liotta not only excelled onscreen in Goodfellas, he also proved a behind-the-scenes mentor to his co-star Lorraine Bracco, who spoke recently about how he helped guide her through the shoot, and was particularly helpful as they executed the now-famous Copacabana one-shot (via Collider):
"I was clueless. Thank God for Ray Liotta, God bless his soul. He was my mentor in making Goodfellas. He would put me on my mark. You can see, he drags me through.

Donald Trump has declared the James Bond franchise won’t be affected by his recently proposed tariff laws. Earlier this month, Trump sent shockwaves through Hollywood as he announced that he would be levying 100% tariffs on movies made overseas.
He previously shared in an interview that he had authorized the U.S. Trade Representative and the Commerce Department to be prepared to impose a 100% tariff on foreign-made movies. As the 78-year-old Potus added films to his ever-growing list of tariffs, he left Tinseltown confused regarding its repercussions.
While the future of several foreign-made movies is still hanging by a thread, Trump declared that, at least James Bond franchise is safe. But, is it really that simple that 007 will be safe amid the ongoing tariff overhaul by the Trump administration?

“There’s a crack in everything…that’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen wasn’t singing about the Vatican, but he might as well have been. Because right now, the Sistine ceiling feels a little cracked… not broken, just echoing with absence. Pope Francis, that rare blend of divine grace and unapologetic clarity, is no longer with us. He could bless you and call out your nonsense in the same breath. A paradox in a white cassock, his absence is deeply felt.
But Robert Prevost is now crowned Pope Leo Xiv. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill papal successor. Chicago-born, Peru-forged, and humility wrapped around him like a well-worn cloak, Prevost has been playing theological chess while others were still fumbling with the rules. Donald Trump said at a recent press conference that James Bond movies will not be impacted by his proposal to put tariffs on movies made overseas. The 007 franchise calls England its home and often films at the country’s famed Pinewood Studios, as well as in cities all over the globe. Trump confused Hollywood this month after saying he had authorized the U.S. Trade Representative and the Commerce Department to initiate steps to impose a 100% tariff on films made overseas.
“As you know, we’re putting tariffs on… film, the moviemakers,” Trump said when asked by The London Times at a press conference about the tariff plan. “And we’re going to be doing some tariffs to get them, because a lot of them have left this country. They all live here, the money comes from here, everything comes from here, but they make them in other countries.

“It is very difficult to process how much has happened since Joe Biden was last at this table,” Whoopi Goldberg said at the start of Thursday’s episode of “The View.”
That’s an understatement. Biden last went on the show in September 2024, during the heat of the campaign, in an attempt to boost the prospects of his vice president, Kamala Harris, in her brief and ultimately unsuccessful run for the presidency. Now, he was showing up as an ex-president, in order both to critique Donald Trump’s chaotic early months in office and to defend his own legacy. Former President Joe Biden was in good spirits as he returned to The View on Thursday for his 11th appearance on the ABC daytime program and first live TV interview since he left the White House.
The former commander-in-chief was brought out early in the show for a solo interview before he was joined by his wife, former first lady Dr. Jill Biden. And The View devoted its full hour to its interview with the Bidens.
President Biden was peppered by questions about the 2024 presidential election, which saw the president drop out in July after a poor performance at a late June debate with then-Republican candidate Donald Trump led to growing calls for him to end his re-election bid. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate, and she won the support to become the Democratic nominee. But Harris ended up losing the election to Trump, who won all seven swing states.

While much of the conversation was very, very serious, he earned at least one bit of uproarious laughter from the studio audience with an impromptu joke about Donald Trump. Actor and television host Whoopi Goldberg voiced sharp criticism Tuesday over former President Donald Trump’s call for a 100% tariff on movies produced outside the United States, calling the proposal a misguided threat to creative freedom and a misreading of the film industry’s economic realities.
Speaking on ABC’s The View, Goldberg pushed back against Trump’s announcement made on his Truth Social platform, where he stated that he had directed the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to begin implementing the tariff. According to Trump, the measure would apply to “any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands.”
