Stephen King opens up about an unexpected film adaptation. He even admits that he "didn't think it was a particularly good story."

Speaking to The Times, the acclaimed author discussed The Life of Chuck, the original novella from 2020's If It Bleeds collection that was recently adapted into a feature film starring Tom Hiddleston. "I didn't think it was a particularly good story," King said before going on to explain the origins of the story itself. "I was in Boston to see a Red Sox game. I saw this guy across the street in front of Walmart, and he had a couple of plastic buckets overturned and he was busking.

Every Scream movie opens with a Ghostface kill that sets the stage for what's to come, and usually winds up being the standout sequence of the film.

Rumored details of the opening scene of Scream 7 have now been shared online (via FearHQ.com), and, if accurate, they reveal exactly which characters are involved, as well as the location of the murders.

Marco Beltrami, who composed the music for the first four Scream films, is back in the studio for Scream 7.

Beltrama shared clips from the recording sessions on Instagram. Astute listeners may recognize the return of “Sidney’s Lament” along with some new music. Cue titles include “School Drama,” “What’s in a Name,” and “Mrs. Evans Lament.”

Although Beltrami was among the franchise alumni to make a vocal cameo in Scream (2022), the score for that film was composed by Brian Tyler. Tyler teamed up with Sven Faulconer for Scream VI.

As the Scream franchise’s original ‘final girl’ reunites with its original writer, the duo plans to take the slasher films back to their roots.

Kevin Williamson, who launched the franchise in 1996 with the late director Wes Craven and returns to direct Scream 7, recently explained in Ashley Cullins’ new book, Your Favorite Scary Movie: How the Scream Films Rewrote the Rules of Horror, that he and star Neve Campbell decided it was “time to reset” the franchise back to Craven’s original vision of horror.

“Neve wants to go back to the first one and find the suspense and really concentrate on scary and not bloody,” Williamson explained in an excerpt posted by Bloody Disgusting. “She was smart. She goes, ‘This is the time to do it because we’re moving away from New York. We’re going back to Sidney’s life. This is the time to reset a little bit.

This week saw the release of Ashley Cullins’ new book Your Favorite Scary Movie: How the Scream Films Rewrote the Rules of Horror, which aims to tell “the ultimate story of the Scream franchise.” In Kevin Williamson’s own words that are featured right on the front cover, “It’s the definitive story of Scream, a true bible of its history and legacy.”

Speaking of Kevin Williamson, he’s not only the writer/creator of the original Scream but he’s also in the director’s chair for next year’s Scream 7, which will be releasing in theaters on February 27, 2026. Neve Campbell is back as Sidney Prescott, with the character taking center stage in the seventh installment, and she’ll be joined by returning players including David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard, with Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown also set to reprise their roles from the previous two installments.

Original Scream 7 director Christopher Landon candidly explains why he departed the movie not long after Melissa Barrera was fired. Though the upcoming installment in the long-running Scream franchise is now on track for release next year, with franchise veteran Kevin Williamson directing and Neve Campbell starring, the film experienced some major setbacks.

In late 2023, it was reported that Barrera, who played new protagonist Sam Carpenter, was fired due to her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Not long after, costar Jenna Ortega also left the Scream 7 cast, followed by Landon, who had been confirmed as director that August.

Filmmaker Christopher Landon once called “Scream 7” a “dream job that turned into a nightmare,” with the director only staying attached to the troubled production for a few months. In a new book about the “Scream” franchise, Landon spoke out about his exit from the movie — and the firing of reboot star Melissa Barrera.

Barrera, who starred in “Scream” (2022) and “Scream VI,” was removed from the upcoming entry by Spyglass Entertainment in 2023 after posting comments about the Israel-Hamas war. Scream 7, the official return of the horror franchise after a brief hiatus, is set to land in theaters early next year, and so far, fans have been kept in the dark. The string of cast announcements kept everyone excited, as old characters returned, new ones were announced, and even the dead were brought back to life. Plot details still remain scarce, but Michelle Randolph, a new addition to the Scream franchise, has unveiled some new info about the upcoming sequel.

Randolph, who stars in Taylor Sheridan's dramas 1923 and Landman, recently appeared on the web seriesStars to Watch, hosted by IMDb. She was joined by colleagues Benito Skinner, Sarah Catherine Hook, Tyriq Withers, and host Tre Wesley, who was quick to ask her about Scream 7. She mentions "movies inside movies," meaning Scream 7's plot could be more meta than ever:

The unusual stakes of Scream 7 have been described by one of the franchise's returning stars. The slasher franchise, which features various killers wearing the iconic Ghostface mask, kicked off with a quartet of Wes Craven movies between 1996 and 2011 before being revived with a legacy sequel in 2022, which itself got a New York-set 2023 sequel, Scream VI.

The upcoming Scream 7 is set to feature the return of a great number of characters, including longtime survivors Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), as well as the legacy sequels' twin siblings Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), who are the nephew and niece of the late legacy character Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy).

The supposedly dead Dewey Riley (David Arquette) will also appear in some capacity alongside unknown characters played by Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, who previously played the Ghostface killers Stu Macher and Roman Bridger respectively.

After taking on the Big Apple, Ghostface appears to be headed back to the suburbs, according to one returning Scream star.

Mason Gooding, who reprises his role as Chad Meeks-Martin in Scream 7, recently described the upcoming installment as “domestic,” as well as “homely and unconventional,” following the Scream VI (2023) location change from Woodsboro to New York City.

Given that Joel McHale and Isabel May have been cast as Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) husband and daughter, this checks out. But since the franchise’s Og ‘final girl’ has been established to be living far from her deadly hometown, we can likely expect to find her in a different suburbia.

Gooding also raved to Us Weekly about working with director Kevin Williamson on Scream 7 after he wrote the first two Wes Craven-helmed films in 1996 and 1997, as well as the 2011 franchise refresh Scream 4.

Hackers is perhaps one of the most 90s movies ever as it takes tech-punk aesthetic and computer techno-babble into overdrive. No matter how strange or dated it is, though, it’s still a lot of fun to a cult audience (me included). Not to mention, this movie served as the introduction to Angelina Jolie for a lot of viewers. Blu-ray.com is announcing the release of the new 30th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray of Hackers from 88 Films. So, first of all — yes, this is a UK release. However, the 4K Blu-ray is region-free for domestic collectors. But unfortunately, the 2K Blu-ray is only Region B.

The new physical media release is set to hit retailers on September 22.

With David Arquette, Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley all evidently coming back for Scream 7, that more or less leaves open the possibility for any of the franchise’s fallen to return. Personally, my vote is for Tatum but there are plenty of others that want a shot. And you can add Alison Brie to the conversation.

Brie recently appeared on the Shut Up Evan podcast, where husband Dave Franco brought up the topic of Scream 7. To that, Brie asked, “Where’s my role in Scream 7?” She justified her question by adding, “I hear tons of people are coming back. While couple Brie and Dave Franco were promoting their horror film, Together, they appeared on the Shut Up Evan Podcast and Scream was brought up. Brie portrayed Rebecca Walters, Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) assistant in the 2011 film, which was the last Scream film directed by horror legend Wes Craven, before he died in 2015.

As the calendar page turns from July to August, the looming dread of the back-to-school season returns. But Netflix has the cure for that seasonal angst in the form of its "C's Get Degrees" collection. Debuting on August 1, the streamer has a collection of classic movies centering around "school days, teenage angst, and first-of-their-kind adventures." MGM+’s newest show, The Institute, has received a positive streaming update, two weeks after it was released. It was based on acclaimed author Stephen King’s sci-fi horror novel of the same name.

Despite garnering mixed reviews following its premiere last July 13, it seems like the first season of The Institute is dominating the streaming charts so far. Per FlixPatrol, the latest Stephen King show has claimed the number 1 spot on MGM+’s Top 10 chart in both the U.S. and other countries as well. Although the series is being compared to Stranger Thingsin terms of its themes and story, The Institute is still far from the massive success that the Netflix show enjoyed when it first made its debut in 2016.
