Exclusive: Pocket.watch’s Ryan and Friends Plus SVOD service is rolling out on The Roku Channel in the U.S. and Amazon Prime Video Channels in the UK and Sweden.

Ryan’s World started out on YouTube, with Ryan Kaji and his friends and family reviewing toys and creating content for young kids.

Ryan and Friends Plus is a subscription VOD service based around Ryan’s World content. It has 5,000 eps of content featuring Ryan and other kid-friendly creators. The lineup spans series, specials, and movies.

Pocket.watch said Ryan and Friends Plus is now the biggest independent kid-focused SVOD service in the U.S. It has about 200,000 subs with 66% growth through 2024.

Ryan’s World content is certainly popular, racking up 88 billion views across YouTube channels that have 64.5 million subscribers.

Exclusive: If you recognize the name pocket.watch, you likely associate it with YouTube, its anchor distribution partner since the kids programming outfit was founded in 2018.

Now, the company is expanding its slate of creator-based fare to premium streaming outlets like Hulu, Peacock and Amazon Kids+.

Pocket.watch, founded by Chris Williams, who runs it as CEO, has a stable of 53 creator brands reaching 1.2 billion subscribers with 855 billion lifetime views. Williams in a past chapter was an exec at Disney and also advised and helped run multiple startups acquired by the media giant, including Maker Studios.

The move to leverage popular creator brands like Ryan’s World, Love, Diana, Daniel Labelle, and MeganPlays in new streaming environments has paid dividends. Hulu, which last year completed an integration into Disney+, has nearly doubled its tally of pocket.watch titles since 2023. It just added six new titles to Hulu on February 1, among them Diana’s Popstar Princess Adventure!

Moana star Dwayne Johnson has shared a major update about Disneys upcoming live-action film adaptation of the acclaimed 2016 animated movie. Johnson will be reprising his fan-favorite role as Maui in both the upcoming animated sequel and the live-action Moana movie.

Posted on Instagram, Johnson confirmed that production on the live-action Moana movie is currently scheduled to start sometime in August, three months before the animated sequel arrives in theaters on Nov. 27. He also expressed his excitement at getting the chance to continue to highlight Polynesian culture with the upcoming live-action adaptation. "Its our deepest honor to share the legends, songs, dances and traditions of our Polynesian culture with all of you and your families around the world," Johnson wrote. "Production begins this August."

Former Jukin Media co-founders and execs Jonathan Skogmo, Mike Skogmo, and Anton Reut have reunited to launch their own travel media brand, Lost iN, with a $4 million seed round of investment from people like pocket.watch founder Chris Williams and Fullscreen founder George Strompolos.

As part of Lost iN’s founding, it acquired the travel guidebook publisher of the same name, which was founded in 2014 and has so far produced 25 books about global travel. It’s also launching with plans to partner with travel-focused digital creators to make original content across various platforms.

The goal, the company says, is to “captivate today’s premium economy traveler,” aka “young working professionals looking for a comfortable, yet authentic travel experience.”

Hall, known for such Disney movies as Big Hero 6 and the original Moana, has closed a deal with the company. The pact will see him create, develop and produce an original animated feature for Skydance, although project details are not currently available.

The filmmaker launched his career with Walt Disney Animation Studios, where he worked on such features as Tarzan (1999), The Emperor’s New Groove (2000) and Chicken Little (2005). Later, he was credited as head of story on Meet the Robinsons (2007) and The Princess and the Frog (2009) before directing the animated musical movie Winnie the Pooh (2011).

Hall directed the 2014 Disney film Big Hero 6, in addition to serving as executive producer for its Disney+ spinoff series Baymax! He earned an Oscar alongside fellow director Chris Williams and producer Roy Conli when the title prevailed for best animated feature at the 2015 Academy Awards ceremony.
