'Fortress' and 0% Rotten Tomatoes-Scored Sequel 'Sniper's Eye' Bring Bruce Willis to Hulu
Image
As he came to the forced end of his career, Bruce Willis starred in more than 20 straight-to-dvd movies that, at the time of their release, were panned by critics and saw the actor temporarily being given his own Razzie award category. Many of those movies were seen in a different light following the revelation of Willis’ dementia diagnosis, and two of them are now streaming on Hulu for fans to evaluate for themselves.

Fortress and its sequel, Fortress: Sniper's Eye, were released in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Willis plays Robert Michaels, a former U.S. intelligence officer now living in a top-secret resort away from the world and his life of danger. That is until his estranged son Paul (Jesse Metcalfe) tracks him down, bringing with him a figure from Robert’s past, and they end up fighting for survival inside the high-tech bunker known as the fortress.

Fortress did receive a limited theatrical release,...

Based on a short film of the same name, Silent Partner is written by actor and Black Man Films co-founder Roderick Lawrence, James J. Johnson, and Branco. The story focuses on the attorney’s moral struggle, his relationship with his wife, and the black professional experience of microaggressions in the workplace and systemic racism in the justice system. The film began production last week in New York City. Cast features Roderick Lawrence, Susan Heyward, Eric Nelsen, and Jeff Perry.

‘Gigi & Nate’ Review: An Abused Monkey and a Young Man with a Disability Rescue Each Other
Image
“Gigi & Nate” begins with two leaps. The first is out of terror, when Gigi, a capuchin monkey at a sad-sack roadside petting zoo, tries to steer clear of her “caretaker.” The second is the sweet leap of boy-joy that 17-year-old Nate Gibson takes off a rocky ledge and into a pond. In this amiable, if unnecessarily manipulative, movie about the human-animal bond — as well as the different forms resilience can take — that fateful second leap will lead the young man and the monkey to each other.

Gigi is rescued by a woman who works for an organization that provides service animals to people with disabilities. Nate (played by British rising star Charlie Rowe) is initially not so fortunate. Shortly after that dive, as he and his family ready for a Fourth of July celebration at their vacation cabin, he begins to feel increasingly lousy. Working from a screenplay by TV scribe David Hudgins,...

The ‘Goodfellas’ Scene That Made Ray Liotta a Superstar
Image
With his gruff, tough-talking persona, Ray Liotta created numerous scenes throughout his career, but one stood out early on that showcased his superstardom. What started as a trip to the store turns into a heart-pounding scene through the lens of Ray Liotta’s coked-up paranoia as Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas. It’s one of many extraordinary film portrayals through his career fans will be revisiting and reflecting on after Liotta died on Thursday at the age of 67.

In the famous scene, he and wife Karen (Lorraine Bracco...

‘Fortress: Sniper’s Eye’ Review
Image
Stars: Natali Yura, Bruce Willis, Jesse Metcalfe, Kelly Greyson, Chad Michael Murray, Gabrielle Haugh, Michael Sirow, Welker White | Written by Randall Emmett, Emile Hirsch, Alan Horsnail | Directed by Josh Sternfeld

Fortress was one of the few recent Bruce Willis films that was actually good, And now the sequel, Fortress: Sniper’s Eye has arrived. But while much of the cast is the same, Josh Sternfeld replaced James Cullen Bressack as director. Bressack also did a good job with Willis’ Survive the Game which begs the question if this film will suffer for not having him on board?

Fortress: Sniper’s Eye picks up in Russia two weeks after the end of the first film. A couple of goons are torturing Sasha and filming it to send to her husband. Or at least they are until Robert walks in and beats the crap out of both of them. Then we...

Another Terrible Bruce Willis Film - 'Fortress: Sniper's Eye' Trailer
Bruce Willis at an event for Expendables : Unité spéciale (2010)
"I must make you suffer." Lionsgate has revealed a trailer for yet another straight-to-the-trash Bruce Willis action movie, which he keeps churning out more & more of recently. This latest one is Fortress: Sniper's Eye, apparently a sequel to the action cyber-thriller Fortress from last year; they found a different director for this one. Which didn't seem to help much. Retired CIA agent Robert Carter Michaels and his son Paul have committed themselves to rebuilding their relationship after their epic last encounter spent protecting the highly secure secret base: the Fortress. When Paul's wife, Melissa, is abducted, he and Robert embark on a deadly journey through the rugged mountains in hopes of saving her. The movie stars Jesse Metcalfe, Bruce Willis, Chad Michael Murray, Ser'Darius Blain, Kelly Greyson, Natalie Burn, Welker White, and Gabrielle Haugh. As forgettable as they come. I think even nodded off watching the trailer. Here's the official...

Midnight in the Switchgrass Review: Megan Fox Navigates a Generic Crime Drama
I think Bruce Willis’ agent needs a raise—they are going above and beyond to make sure their client gets A-list billing no matter what project he takes. I’d estimate the actor has about five total minutes of screen-time in Midnight in the Switchgrass, a majority of which is his FBI agent (Karl Helter) being a tired and soon-to-be-retired mother hen for his much younger and more driven partner (Megan Fox’s Rebecca Lombardo). It’s a cushy gig that probably put a few bucks in his pocket while somehow also earning him second-billing and foreground placement on the poster despite the real lead (Emile Hirsch’s state cop Byron Crawford) barely receiving his name at the top. Temper your expectations, Willis fans. It’s a glorified cameo.

What about the film, though? Written by Alan Horsnail and helmed by long-time producer and first-time director Randall Emmett, its story...

Radha Blank Pivots From Playwright to Rapper in ‘The Forty-Year-Old Version’ Trailer
Image
Radha Blank overcomes failure as a playwright by reinventing herself as a rapper in Netflix’s first trailer for “The Forty-Year-Old Version.”

The footage starts with Blank teaching a playwriting class in New York City as one of “30 under 30 Playwrights to Watch.”

“Remember, if you put in nothing, it will be nothing,” she tells her students. In true New Yorker fashion, one of them snarkily asks, “Like your career?”

Blank, who won the U.S. dramatic competition directing award at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, helmed from her own script about a down-on-her-luck New York playwright who decides to salvage her artistic voice the only way she knows how — by becoming a rapper at age 40.

“What about me doing hip-hop?” she asks her friend, portrayed by Peter Kim. “Doing what to it?” he responds.

“The Forty-Year-Old Version” also stars rapper Oswin Benjamin, who makes his feature film acting debut, along with Imani Lewis,...

Radha Blank Becomes a Middle-Aged Rapper in ‘The Forty-Year-Old Version’ Trailer (Video)
40 ans, toujours dans le flow (2020)
One of the darlings out of this year’s Sundance was “The Forty-Year-Old Version,” written, directed and starring newcomer Radha Blank about a 40-year-old playwright who turns to rapping after her career has stagnated.

The movie won the dramatic directing award for Blank at Sundance, and after the film was picked up by Netflix, it served as her own discovery story. In her rapping, she finds new life and a voice that should make even the millennials sit up and take notice.

“Why my skin so dry, why am I yawning right now, why those AARP n—ers sending s— to my house, this is 40,” she raps. She’s got some flow, but the movie finds some humor in the blank stares she gets when she tells people that she needs some “beats” and “tracks” and wants to make this a thing.

Randall Emmett at an event for 16 blocs (2006)
Exclusive: One week into production, the Randall Emmett-directed serial killer thriller Midnight In The Switchgrass has halted production in Puerto Rico, with cast and crew due to be flown home this afternoon. This becomes the third indie film this morning to halt because of the coronavirus scare, after the Paul Schrader-directed The Card Counter in Biloxi, Mississippi, and the Agc Studios thriller Geechee that was set to shoot this week in the Dominican Republic.

Emmett confirmed the postponement. The first time director said that the cast very much wanted to be there, but that the safety-first decision was made, because of the uncertainty surrounding the global pandemic. He was particularly upset to leave behind the crews in Puerto Rico which he said were first rate. He vowed that they will return once the scare is over, and continue the film. The pic stars Megan Fox, Emile Hirsch, Bruce Willis,...

Casting ‘Michael Cohen,’ the Movie
Two years ago, there was a fierce online debate over the cast of a future movie about the 2016 Republican presidential race, which would probably be called Clown Car! (although Every Which Way But Left and A Kochwork Orange were also strong suggestions).

Twitter users attacked difficult questions like, “Could veteran character actor Daniel Von Bargen of Seinfeld fame play George Pataki despite being dead?” and “Was Justin Timberlake training for the role of Rand Paul in his portrayal of dry-humping weenie Scott Delacorte in Bad Teacher?”

This week, there’s...

John Barrowman turned down Celebrity Big brother
