Former bodyguard of Elvis Presley. He wrote the tell-all book "Elvis What Happened?" along with other bodyguards, shortly before Presley died.

Co-wrote the song "If Every Day Was Like Christmas". Recorded by West's friend Elvis Presley in 1966, it became almost as strongly identified with Elvis as his earlier Holiday hit, "Blue Christmas", and is regarded as a standard today.

Was played by his own son, John Boyd West, in the Code Quantum (1989) episode, Memphis Melody - July 3, 1954 (1993), and Elvis (2005).

Cousin of Del 'Sonny' West.

Was considered for the role of Captain Spaulding in La Maison des 1000 morts (2003).
