'We Weren't Supposed to Do That': Avatar: The Last Airbender Creators Reveal the Nickelodeon Rule They Broke for Legend of Korra
Image
Original Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko recently revealed that to give their show's animated follow-up, The Legend of Korra, a more cinematic feel, they did something they were "explicitly being told not to do" by the studio.

The duo rendered the series in HD widescreen despite being told not to -- a decision that accidentally put the network ahead of the entire industry. Dimartino and Konietzko shared the behind-the-scenes story during a recent episode of Braving the Elements -- the official retrospective podcast hosted by Janet Varney and Dante Basco, explaining how studio executive Mark Taylor greenlit the HD format upgrade against Nickelodeon's wishes.

Nickelodeon Originally Said No to Avatar's Legend of Korra in HD

"We weren't supposed to do that," Konietzko admitted during the podcast discussion. The creators first pushed for HD during Avatar's series finale but faced resistance. "Nickelodeon, with...

‘It Feeds’ and ‘Fear Below’ Deliver Terror from Land and Sea
Image
Two genre-driven thrillers have surfaced on digital platforms this week, both released by Signature Entertainment. The first is Fear Below, a period-set aquatic survival film blending mid-century crime and nature horror, and the second is It Feeds, a supernatural possession story centred on generational trauma and unseen terror. Though markedly different in tone and style, both films mark distinctive entries in their respective subgenres, offering audiences immediate access to contemporary independent horror.

Fear Below, directed by Matthew Holmes, is set in 1946 and unfolds in the remote waterways of the Australian outback. A group of professional divers, hired under mysterious circumstances to recover a sunken vehicle, quickly learn that their true objective is not salvage work but the retrieval of stolen gold. The vehicle belonged to a group of bank robbers, now employing the divers to discreetly recover the wreckage. However, the waters they’ve entered are occupied by a territorial bull shark,...

‘Dangerous Animals’ Review – A Ferocious Subversion of Shark Horror with an Unforgettable Villain
Image
In an increasingly overcrowded sea of shark horror movies, leave it to the director of The Loved Ones and The Devil’s Candy, Sean Byrne, to give the well-trodden subgenre a welcome shakeup with a potentially game-changing entry. Dangerous Animals features cinema’s favorite ocean predator and terrifying feeding frenzies, but they’re merely the modus operandi of one sadistic and charismatic serial killer. It’s a smart approach that yields no shortage of breathless thrills and nerve-fraying chills in an adrenaline rush of a summer horror film that never sacrifices on character.

Jai Courtney delivers an electric, career-defining performance as Captain Tucker, a disarming and gregarious behemoth of a man who lives in and operates a shark diving tour boat. For Tucker, it’s less about a source of income and more about luring prey for his true passion: feeding his tortured prey to the sharks he attracts with buckets of chum.

It Feeds Review: Enter The Mind of The Possessed in Ambitious Canadian Supernatural Horror [Panic Fest 2025]
Canadian-made Supernatural Horror It Feeds recently took home some pretty heavy prizes at Panic Fest 2025, including Best Actress and Best Creature. Written and directed by Chad Archibald It Feeds is an ambitious indie project punching above its weight class with a killer monster and great script that brings a mother and daughter face to face with more than one kind of evil. Simply put: It Feeds is a really strong handmade movie (fewer and fewer every year) with great characters (hard to find even in the major studios these days) and a clear love for the genre (the #1 pre-requisite for a rock-solid horror movie).

Not unlike the demon monster of Insidious or Lights Out‘s Diana, the big bad of It Feeds is classic supernatural evil. It feeds on the pain and suffering of the people it attaches itself too, it jumps out from the shadows when you least expect,...

4 NBC shows were canceled in 2024 (with another moving to Peacock)
Image
We know not all shows will make it through a year, but that doesn’t mean we have to be happy about cancellations. NBC opted to cancel four shows in 2024, and another one is on the move to a streaming platform. Let’s take a look back at what we won’t watch in 2025.

The 2023–2024 TV season was certainly an odd one. With the writers strike and then the actors strike throughout the summer and fall of 2023, it made it much harder to get our favorite shows back. Most of them were held for the midseason, but others were able to get fall slots.

You would think that the fall slots would allow for a success. Sadly, that wasn’t the case for one series in particular. Meanwhile, another was canceled even before the strike action started, but didn’t officially end until 2024.

Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Finale Teaser Finds Louis Out For Vengeance - Spoilers

With just one more episode of Interview with the Vampire season 2 to go, AMC has released a brief promo for what promises to be an emotional and eventful finale.

In last week's devastating penultimate instalment, "I Could Not Prevent It," the Théâtre Des Vampires held a public "trial" for Louis, Claudia and Madeleine, but the outcome was always going to be the same no matter what verdict the audience - who believed they were watching another play - reached.

In the end, Armand managed to use his power to force the crowd to sentence Louis to "banishment," which Santiago interpreted as locking him away in a coffin filled with rocks and leaving him to starve to death.

Claudia and Madeleine were exposed to sunlight and burned to ashes on the stage.

In her final moments, Claudia turns to look at Lestat, and actress Delainey Hayles believes it was more a...

From the character design to vehicles used to narrative elements, Masters of the Universe: Revolution features "deep cut" reference to the franchise's past. What makes this impressive is how almost every element introduced was instrumental to the story Masters of the Universe: Revolution told over its five episodes.

The following contains spoilers for Masters of the Universe: Revolution Season 1, now streaming on Netflix.

The most interesting thing about Masters of the Universe as a 40-year-old franchise is its origin. Instead of a wild idea from writers, animators or filmmakers about barbarians from space who battled with technology and magic, it was created by Mattel to sell toys out of desperation. Masters of the Universe: Revolution is the new series on Netflix that's all about honoring the past,...
