Red Sonja is now available to rent or buy on digital platforms, and the sword and sorcery reboot concludes by setting up a sequel - and a potential team-up with another iconic fantasy warrior.
Spoilers follow.
Sonja (Matilda Lutz) and her fellow slaves ultimately manage to escape from the villainous Draygan's (Robert Sheehan) fighting pits, where they had been forced to compete as gladiators. After a brief taste of freedom, they are tracked down and ambushed by Annisia (Wallis Day) and her forces. Whether Red Sonja will get a sequel remains to be seen (though the movie's relatively low budget can't hurt its chances), but if we do get another movie, there's a possibility that we'll see Matilda Lutz's She-Devil with a Sword join forces with another legendary sword and sorcery warrior.

With a relatively muted, last-minute marketing campaign, no one would blame you for not realising that the Red Sonja reboot arrives in theaters this weekend.
That's typically a telltale sign that a studio doesn't have much faith in a movie. As a result, fans have been left convinced that this take on the beloved fantasy character will fall into the same category as the low-budget, poorly-received Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
Unsurprisingly, the reviews suggest this one probably won't be worth your time. While only 19 have been counted as we write this, Red Sonja currently sits at a disappointing—and "Rotten"—58% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. In comparison, the 1985 movie starring Brigitte Nielsen as the title character, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sandahl Bergman, has an even more dismal 21%.
We'd expect more critics to weigh in over the next few days, and while most of the reviews aren't glowing, Red Sonja may...

The review embargo for Millennium Media's Red Sonja reboot has lifted, and - somewhat surprisingly - the movie has received a more positive response from critics than you might have expected following the reaction to the recent trailer.
Though only a few reviews have been added to Rotten Tomatoes so far (a score has yet to be generated), most of them are positive - although even the outlets that gave the movie a "fresh" rating do point out a few problems with the low-budget sword and sorcery adventure.
Star Matilda Lutz (Revenge) comes in for high praise for her performance as the She Devil with a Sword, but the movie is said to be let down by a clunky script and lacklustre production values - impressive practical creature FX aside.

We recently got word that a Rambo prequel is moving forward at Millennium Media, and the project has now found its lead.
Deadline reports that Noah Centineo is in talks to play a younger take on the legendary action hero. Specific plot details are still under wraps, but, as you'd expect, the movie "will be the origin story of a young John Rambo during the Vietnam War."
The original First Blood followed a tormented Vietnam vet (Sylvester Stallone) who is targeted by a corrupt sheriff when he arrives in a small town to see an old friend.
Stallone, who played John Rambo in all five previous movies, is said to be aware of the prequel and Centineo's attachment, but is not currently involved with the film.
Sisu director Jalmari Helander is set to direct from a screenplay by writing duo Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.

Earlier this year, we learned that a Rambo prequel was in development, and now Millennium Media has found its leading man. Noah Centineo, of Netflix's The Recruit, is set to star as John Rambo in the upcoming film. The movie, which will be titled John Rambo, will center around Rambo's time fighting in the Vietnam War before the events of 1982's First Blood and the high-octane action franchise that sprung from it.
According to reports, Sylvester Stallone, who portrayed the ex-Green Beret in five big-screen actioners, is aware of the project and Centineo's involvement in it, but is not involved with the film. Centineo, who broke out as a teen star on Austin & Ally and The Fosters, has proved his combat bonafides in recent years. The project hails from Sisu director Jalmari Helander, who directs from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. There are many details to iron out, but if all goes well, John Rambo could shoot in Thailand in the fall.
Plot details for John Rambo remain a mystery, but the film is likely to focus on the early military career of the legendary Vietnam War veteran made famous by Sylvester Stallone. John Rambo, created by David Morell in his novel First Blood, is one of the most iconic characters in U.S. cinematic history. The tough-as-nails role helped put Stallone on the map and pave the way for other titans of the action genre.

On the heels of the recent teaser trailer, IGN has shared a new behind-the-scenes featurette for the upcoming Red Sonja reboot, and it highlights some action-packed new footage of the She-Devil with a Sword laying waste to her enemies.
In addition, the movie's official Instagram page has posted some new stills and a BTS photo of star Matilda Lutz wearing Sonja's iconic (not to mention infamous) chain-mail bikini.
The trailer actually shows the bikini right at the end - but not with Lutz in it! We assume Sonja will wear the two-piece armor for a few brief scenes as she competes as a gladiator at the behest of the villainous Draygan before returning to her (slightly) less revealing and more practical costume.

A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, which is set to receive a theatrical release (courtesy of Samuel Goldwyn Films) on August 13 before arriving on digital on August 29. With those dates swiftly approaching, a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s stunts, fights, cast, and horses has been shared on social media, along with a selfie Lutz took while wearing the title character’s iconic chainmail bikini.

It had been so long since we had any updates on the Red Sonja reboot that a lot of fans had given up hope of ever seeing the movie, but we got word that the project had found a US distributor in Samuel Goldwyn Films back in March, and the first official trailer has now been released (via EW).
The teaser finds the She-Devil with a Sword (Revenge star Matilda Lutz) captured by the ruthless Dragan (Robert Sheehan) and forced to fight in a gladiatorial-style arena. Sonja manages to escape, and joins forces with a group of fellow warriors to seek vengeance against Dragan and his wife, Dark Annisia (Wallis Day).
There's plenty of bloody action, some fantastical creatures (brought to life with surprisingly decent CGI), and Sonja's infamous chain-mail bikini even makes an appearance - though not with her in it!

A Rambo prequel is officially in development. The iconic action movie franchise, which stars Sylvester Stallone in the role of John Rambo, kicked off in 1982 with the smash hit First Blood, which followed the Vietnam veteran character being targeted by Washington law enforcement, unleashing memories of his time as a prisoner of war that caused him to react violently to the situation. The first movie grossed $160.3 million against a reported budget of $15 million, spawning a multimedia franchise that now includes five Rambo movies, the most recent of which was 2019's Last Blood.

A new Rambo movie is in the works, but there's a catch: it's going to be a prequel. This means that the role of John Rambo will be recast as the film looks to explore the character's roots with a younger actor before the events of 1982's First Blood, the film that launched the hit action franchise.
Per Deadline, a new prequel, dubbed John Rambo, is going to be shopped at the Cannes market. The film comes from Millennium Media, the company behind the Has Fallen, Hitman's Bodyguard, and Expendables franchises. It may excite fans of the genre to learn that the prequel is set to be directed by Jalmari Helander, known for directing Sisu — a film widely hailed as one of the best action movies in years. Filming is expected to start in Thailand in October.

One of the most tragically unsung heroes in action movies, Scott Adkins, has declared that he would love to return to one of his most popular martial arts franchises. Known for roles in the likes of Ninja, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, Ip Man 4, The Expendables 2, and John Wick: Chapter 4, the character that put Adkins on the map of many an action movie fan is that of the most complete fighter in the world, Yuri Boyka. And Adkins wants to return to the ring for more.

Back in June of 2021, it was announced that Julian Sands, best known around here for playing the Warlock in the 1989 horror film fittingly titled Warlock and then coming back for the sequel Warlock: The Armageddon, had signed on to star in a new genre project called The Piper, which puts a horrific twist on the legend of the Pied Piper. Sadly, it was only seven months later that we heard Sands had gone missing while hiking on California’s Mount Baldy. Six months later, his body was found. He did get to work on The Piper before he passed away, though, and the film is now ready to make its way out into the world. It’s set to receive a theatrical and digital/on demand release on March 8th, and with that date exactly one month away a trailer has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.

For a comic book movie franchise that has never reached the heights of most Marvel or DC films of the last two decades, "Hellboy" has remained shockingly resilient. To that end, Mike Mignola's beloved character is set for yet another big-screen reboot in the form of "Hellboy: The Crooked Man." This time around, the character will be headed back to the 1950s for a folk horror adventure based on one the most celebrated storylines from the comics.
This will be the character's first film since 2019's "Hellboy." Starring David Harbour, it proved to be a critical and commercial disaster. Be that as it may, Millennium Media is set to try to bring the character to life once again with a lower-budget take on the material. So, when will you be able to see the movie? A new "Hellboy" reboot is coming! Created by artist and writer Mike Mignola in 1993 for Dark Horse Comics, Hellboy is a larger-than-life half-human, a half-demon superhero. Through the decades, Hellboy has found steady success in printed publications and continued to appear on the page even 30 years after his origin. In a comics landscape that is consistently changing, Hellboy has managed to stay endlessly relevant.
While the monster hunter has been successful in the arena of comic books, his arrival on the silver screen is mired with uncertainty. The character has been previously brought to life in Guillermo del Toro's two-part film franchise starring actor Ron Perlman as the harbinger of the apocalypse. While the first two films made a "little bit of profit," a third never materialized as studios saw it as a "dangerous" project, del Toro once revealed.
A 2019 reboot of the film starring actor David Harbour was a commercial and critical failure.

Millennium Media announced today that The Crooked Man has its Hellboy. Jack Kesy (12 Strong) will star as Hellboy. As previously announced, Brian Taylor (Crank) will be directing with a script penned by Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola and Chris Golden.
The Crooked Man will be the first film in the Millennium Media partnered development slate with leading German film and TV distributor, Telepool, a division of Westbrook Inc.
Stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia, Hellboy and a rookie Bprd agent discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.
“Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles. His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on The Outpost.” Co-President of Millennium Media, Jonathan Yunger stated.
