‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Season 4 First Look Photos Revealed As Creator Roma Roth Teases “Exciting And Emotional Challenges” For Maggie & Cal
Image
Exclusive: Production has officially begun on Season 4 of Sullivan’s Crossing, and Deadline has an exclusive first look at what’s happening on the Nova Scotia set.

A photo of Morgan Kohan, Chad Michael Murray and Marcus Rosner teases a brewing love triangle between their characters after the Season 3 cliffhanger in which Rosner’s Liam revealed himself as Maggie’s (Kohan) husband.

Obviously, Cal (Murray) was not pleased to learn this information — but the snapshot from set seems to be hinting that, at least at first, Cal will still be a doting partner to Maggie as he’s staring pretty lovingly at her. We get the sense Cal will definitely need to watch out for Liam, though, as he lingers behind Maggie staring at Cal with a furrowed brow.

Deadline also has individual shots of Maggie and Cal as well as a shot of the film slate, which are embedded below.

WGA Expels Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar for Strike Violation on HBO’s ‘The Sympathizer’
Image
The ripple effects of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike continue. On Friday, August 8, the WGA announced that Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar had been expelled from the union for writing the HBO limited series, “The Sympathizer,” while their fellow writers were picketing. This is not the first discipline action from the union in regard to the strike. Reportedly seven writers have been docked for violations.

The historic 148-day strike took up several months of 2023 — mostly simultaneously with the SAG-AFTRA strike — and resulted in a new contractural agreement between the writers and studios that increased wages, set standards for writers’ rooms, and included provisions for streaming residuals and framework for AI regulations. It had a significant impact on the Los Angeles economy, as well as the film industry at large, as studio lots sat dormant and theaters, networks, and streamers felt shockwaves in their release pipeline.

Additionally, Anthony Cipriano has been suspended until May 1, 2026, for working on “The Last Breath.” He was also given a public censure and a lifetime ban from serving as a future strike captain.

“They investigated dozens of allegations of violations and determined whether there was sufficient evidence to send cases on to the Board for further action,” WGA West leadership said of the Strike Rules Compliance Committee in a Friday statement. “There are no further strike-related disciplines and all Article X proceedings arising from the 2023 strike have concluded.”

The WGA had previously named four members who had appealed their initial accusations of breaking strike rules. In May, guild members voted to expel Edward John Drake and Roma Roth, suspend Julie Bush...

Netflix's Squid Game Is Quietly Dethroned by Popular CW Drama With 81% Rt Score

Netflix has released many hits, whether in TV or film. However, few reached the same status as Squid Game.

The South Korean dystopian thriller series debuted in 2021 and became a true worldwide phenomenon. The series just aired its third and final season, which wrapped up all the loose ends. However,Squid Game Season 3 has started to lose ground and was dethroned in the charts by the popular romantic drama Sullivan's Crossing, Tudum reveals.

A Weakening U.S. Dollar Worries Film and TV Producers in Canada
Image
Canada’s film industry has long had American studios and streamers headed north to shoot movies and TV originals on the strength of generous currency savings from a low Canadian dollar compared to the U.S. greenback.

So the American dollar so far in 2025 falling in value by around 3 cents, or 5 percent, against the Canadian loonie due to the chaos around Trump’s global trade war is suddenly raising red flags as trends shift. Daniel Bekerman, the Vancouver-based indie producer of the Donald Trump film The Apprentice, argues Canada can control its all-important film tax credits to also entice American producers north, but not it’s currency.

“At the moment, it’s not negatively affecting my business. That could change with more radical shifts in the currency,” says Bekerman, who has produced five movies in Vancouver so far this year, including director Eli Craig’s Clown in a Cornfield and The Wedding Banquet,...

‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Showrunner Teases “Second Chances” for Fan-Favorite Characters in Season 3
Image
Months after Sullivan’s Crossing debuted its third season on CTV and The CW, another major platform is gearing fans up for the season’s arrival, and it’s happening very soon. Netflix has officially confirmed that Season 3 of the romance series will find its way to the streamer in August, finally giving many who missed out the chance to continue with Maggie (Morgan Kohan) on her emotional journey. In anticipation, showrunner Roma Roth has some exciting teases for eager fans, especially regarding fan-favorite characters who have been through quite an ordeal in the past two seasons.

For Maggie, the season highlights a deeply personal journey, according to Roth, who, in an exclusive interview with SpoilerTV, also spoke of “second chances” awaiting several characters, not just in love, but also in life. “These characters have been through a lot over two seasons,” Roth said. “We wanted to give them an opportunity to explore love.

A Surprise CW Drama With 83% on Rotten Tomatoes Is Blowing Up on Streaming 2 Years Later
Image
Netflix subscribers cannot get enough of Sullivan's Crossing. The romantic drama series has managed to become a bigger streaming hit, at least temporarily, than Squid Game.

Per FlixPatrol, as of July 10, Sullivan's Crossing has knocked the Netflix original Squad Game out of the No. 1 spot on the streamer's Top 10 TV Shows in the United States list. This is an impressive feat for The CW drama series, whose first two seasons were only added to Netflix two days ago on July 8. After debuting at the No. 2 spot yesterday, Sullivan's Crossing is now the No. 1 show on Netflix in the United States. With Squid Game having dominated the top spot since the release of its third and final season on June 27, it remains to be seen whether Sullivan's Crossing's time at No. 1 will be short-lived or if this is the start of a new streaming reign.

‘Virgin River’ Renewed for Season 8 at Netflix Ahead of Season 7 Debut
Image
Before Season 7 of “Virgin River” even has a premiere date, the series has been renewed for its eighth season at Netflix.

An early renewal is par for the course for “Virgin River,” which was renewed for Season 7 ahead of the October 2024 release of the sixth season. The series has consistently brought in strong viewership for Netflix since its debut in 2019. Season 6 spent four weeks on the Netflix Top 10, peaking with 9.2 million views in its second week.

“Virgin River” is based on Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name and stars Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel Monroe. Hoping to leave her past life behind, Mel moves to Virgin River, a remote town in Northern California. There, having taken a job as a midwife and nurse practitioner, she meets and falls in love with former Marine and local bartender Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson). Season 6 sees Mel and Jack get married, while...

‘Virgin River’ Gets Early Season 8 Renewal, Becomes Netflix’s Longest-Running Scripted Series
Image
Exclusive: Another year, another early renewal and another record for Netflix’s popular romantic drama Virgin River. Mere days after production wrapped on the upcoming seventh season of the series starring Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, it has been renewed for Season 8, which will once again consist of 10 episodes.

With the pickup, Virgin River is believed to be Netflix’s longest-running live-action scripted series. It has surpassed comedy Grace and Frankie and comedy-drama Orange Is the New Black‘s seven-season runs and has edged Spanish teen drama Elite‘s eight seasons with 84 vs. 64 episodes across them.

It is not surprising that Virgin River, one of Netflix’s “blue sky”, “comfort” series, has eclipsed flashier, higher-profile...

‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Showrunner Teases a “Big Shoe Drop” in Season 3 Finale That Leads Right Into Season 4
Image
There’s only one episode remaining in Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3, and the showrunner for the hit series just dropped a bomb about its future. Sullivan’s Crossing author Robyn Carr confirmed earlier this year that the show had been greenlit for a fourth season, but cast and crew have been shy about sharing updates while Season 3 has still been on air, until now.

Sullivan’s Crossing showrunner Roma Roth recently sat down for a tell-all interview on the future of the show, and she was asked if she could drop any details about the finale. While she, understandably, declined to share any specifics, she did tease a major bomb drop coming in the finale that will lead directly into Season 4:

“There’s never a dull moment at Sullivan’s Crossing. A romance drama series needs to have push and pull between your characters… we’re going to have a pretty big shoe...

WGA Members Reverse 2024 Censure Of Tim Doyle
Image
Updated with statement from Tim Doyle: WGA members on Friday overturned a 2024 censure of Tim Doyle for posting a “racist and offensive depiction of a lynching” on Facebook, Deadline has confirmed.

“I was genuinely surprised by the win and moved by the level of support I received from the rank and file membership,” Doyle, , the longtime showrunner whose credits include Rules of Engagement, Last Man Standing and Better Off Ted, tells Deadline. “I think they recognized overreach by the WGA Board of Directors and pushed back against it.”

An email that went out to members said “a majority of current members in good standing who voted adopted the alternative action proposed by Doyle by a vote of 915 to 557: overturn the board’s discipline (public censure).”

Doyle has always maintained the drawing was a joke. It was posted during the TV and film writers strike and depicted a man...

WGA West Upholds Board Vote by 54% to Remove 2 Members Over Strike Violations
Image
The members of the Writers Guild of America West voted on Friday to uphold the expulsion of two writers accused of writing during the 2023 strike, but to rescind a public rebuke of a writer who made a joke on Facebook.

The WGA West board voted earlier this year to kick out Roma Roth and Edward Drake for performing forbidden “writing services” — what the union calls “scab writing” — during the 148-day strike. They appealed, but 54% of the voting membership backed the board’s decision in a tally that concluded on Friday.

Edward John Drake, Roma Roth and Julie Bush were accused of prohibited writing activities during the stoppage, while Tim Doyle was censured for an offensive social media post that compared being on strike to being lynched.

The WGA West board voted last week to expel Drake and Roth, the guild’s harshest penalty. Bush was temporarily suspended and given a...

WGA Members Uphold Vote to Expel Two Members for Strike Violations, but Rescind Censure Over Facebook Joke
Image
The members of the Writers Guild of America have voted to uphold the expulsion of two writers accused of writing during the 2023 strike, but to rescind a public rebuke of a writer who made a joke on Facebook.

The WGA board voted earlier this year to kick out Roma Roth and Edward Drake for performing forbidden “writing services” — what the union calls “scab writing” — during the 148-day strike. They appealed, but 54% of the voting membership backed the board’s decision in a tally that concluded on Friday.

On a 62%-38% vote, the members rejected the public censure of Tim Doyle, who had faced a charge of conduct “prejudicial to the welfare of the Guild” for making an off-color joke. On the 100th day of the strike, Doyle posted a silhouette of a man hanging from a tree, in what was meant to be a morbid reference to his own suicide.

Writers Guild West Strike Discipline Largely Upheld In Close Member Vote
Image
Did the Writers Guild of America West board of directors go too far in disciplining members that allegedly broke the rules of its 2023 strike? Or did it appropriately respond to actions that threatened the union and its members?

Union members answered that question with a mixed response on Thursday in a vote that upheld three out of four punishments. Discipline was upheld after very tight results in the case of Julie Bush (745 to 686), Edward Drake (769 to 652) and Roma Roth (778 to 639). Doyle’s punishment was overturned and an alternative action taken after members voted 915 to 557.

Out of seven writers disciplined for allegedly breaking the WGA’s strike rules, Bush, Drake, Doyle and Roth had all chosen to appeal their punishments. The punishments handed down to the three other disciplined writers remain unknown.

The board of the labor organization had previously expelled two of the writers — Drake and Roth — while suspending Bush...

WGA Members Face a ‘Deeply Uncomfortable’ Vote to Expel Two of Their Own
Image
Members of the Writers Guild of America West are engaged in unusual vote this week on whether to banish two of their own — Roma Roth and Edward Drake — for allegedly performing “writing services” during the 2023 strike.

The membership is also being asked to uphold disciplinary moves against two others, Julie Bush and Tim Doyle, that fall short of expulsion. The vote will conclude at 2 p.m. on Friday.

In an email to members on Wednesday, WGA Board Member Rob Forman acknowledged that it’s an awkward situation.

“I know it’s deeply uncomfortable to vote on disciplining other writers, especially during this horrible contraction,” he wrote.

But, he urged the membership to “join me in holding these writers accountable” for breaking guild rules, “and reject the disciplined members’ excuses for hurting the Guild by turning their backs on their fellow writers during the strike.”

A vote of this kind is extremely rare.

“Picking Up the Pieces After Their Losses”: ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Creator Reveals Where Maggie and Cal Start in Season 3
Image
Sullivan’s Crossing makes its much-awaited return on The CW in only a few days after premiering on CTV on Sunday, April 27. And in the new season, fans will get to see Maggie (Morgan Kohan) and Cal’s (Chad Michael Murray) love story continue with even more drama and picking up right from where the second season ended. This was revealed by the show’s creator and executive producer, Roma Roth, who had an insightful chat with TV Insider detailing what’s coming for not only the fan-favorite lovebirds in Sullivan’s Crossing’s third season, but also other residents of the town.

Season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing arrives in the U.S. on Wednesday, May 14, and according to Roth, it begins several months after the town’s beloved diner goes up in flames as seen at the end of Season 2. The EP also adds that “the residents of the Crossing are picking...

‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Returns with Maggie & Cal ‘Picking Up the Pieces’
Image
The addictively cozy romance set in a coastal Nova Scotia hamlet returns hotter than ever, which is fitting since we last saw Sullivan’s Crossing’s beloved diner going up in flames. “Season 3 picks up several months after the diner fire,” sets up creator and exec-producer Roma Roth ahead of the Wednesday, May 7, premiere on The CW and adds that “the residents of the Crossing are picking up the pieces after their losses.” That includes former big-city neurosurgeon Maggie (Morgan Kohan), who has finally decided to stay in town for good now that she’s reconnected with her dad (Scott Patterson) and fallen for rugged handyman Cal (Chad Michael Murray). “Maggie has returned to the Crossing after having packed up her life in Boston and is starting a new chapter in her life.” But all is not smooth sailing for the couple. As viewers know, Maggie got some unexpected news last season that,...

WGA Urges Members to Discipline 4 Writers for 2023 Strike Violations: ‘Did Not Go Pencils-Down’
Image
The Writers Guild of America has asked its members to affirm disciplinary actions against four writers accused of breaking union rules during the 2023 strike, with a vote on their appeals scheduled for mid-May, according to media reports.

Edward John Drake, Roma Roth, and Julie Bush are accused of prohibited writing activities during the stoppage, while Tim Doyle faces censure for an offensive social media post. The WGA West board voted last week to expel Drake and Roth, the guild’s harshest penalty. Bush was temporarily suspended and given a lifetime ban from serving as a strike captain. Doyle was publicly censured.

“Every Guild member knows what it means when there’s a strike: pencils down,” the board wrote in its appeal to members, Variety first reported Saturday. “[Drake] did not go pencils down during the strike.” Guild leadership did not immediately respond Saturday to a request for comment.

Drake, writer-director of the indie film “Guns Up,...

WGA Seeks to Discipline Four Writers for Breaking Guild Rules During 2023 Strike
Image
The Writers Guild of America asked members on Friday to uphold disciplinary actions against four of their brethren who are accused of violating guild rules during the 2023 strike.

Three of the writers — Edward John Drake, Roma Roth and Julie Bush — are accused of performing forbidden “writing services” in violation of union solidarity. A fourth member, Tim Doyle, is accused of making an off-color joke in a Facebook group of fellow writers.

The WGA West board voted to expel Drake and Roth, the severest form of punishment for guild rule violations. Bush was given a temporary suspension and a lifetime ban on serving as a strike captain, while Doyle was given a public censure.

All four are appealing the discipline to the general membership. Three other members, who were not identified, were also found guilty by trial committees of writing during the strike. Those members elected not to appeal.

WGA West Penalizes 6 Members For Allegedly Breaking Strike Rules, Announces Multiple Disciplinary Appeals
Image
The Writers Guild of America West on Friday publicly announced disciplinary action against six members for alleged unauthorized work during the union’s 2023 strike, as well as one additional member for an alleged violation of the guild’s constitution.

Four of those disciplined, which the Wgaw named in a memo to members today, are appealing the decision.

Julie Bush, Tim Doyle, Edward Drake and Roma Roth are all pushing back against the union board’s disciplinary rulings, which were determined via hearings before five-member trial juries. Bush, Drake and Roth are accused of writing during the strike.

Bush, whose credited as a consulting producer on Manhunt, has been suspended from the guild until next year and has been barred for life from holding non-elected guild office after being found guilty of violating Working Rule 8 and writing for a non-signatory company during the strike. Drake was expelled for allegedly writing during...

Writers Guild West Names Members Who’ve Been Expelled or Disciplined for Breaking Strike Rules
Image
The Writers Guild of America West has gone public with its discipline of six union members for allegedly writing during the labor group’s 2023 strike and one for a purported constitutional violation, a move that four writers have appealed, with one saying he was “punished for being transparent.”

Writers Julie Bush, Tim Doyle, Edward Drake and Roma Roth have all sought to overturn disciplinary rulings from the union’s board of directors, which followed hearings before five-member trial juries and investigations from a committee aimed at uncovering authorized work during the strike. The union announced the discipline and appeals to members on Friday.

The appeal materials show that Bush, a consulting producer on Manhunt, was suspended from WGA membership until 2026 and was barred from holding “non-elected guild office” due to alleged writing during the strike for a non-signatory company. Schooled and The Kids Are Alright executive producer Doyle was publicly...
