Both in movies and on television, stories set in airplanes — or that are tied to events in an airplane — tend to be thrilling and spark viewers' curiosity. The last hit show that featured an airborne plot was Manifest, a 2018 thriller and mystery series that saw a group of passengers simply disappear mid-flight and land five and a half years later as if no time had passed. In light of its possibility, Peacock quickly added to its catalog a show with a similar potential that was almost equally popular. Now that it's premiered on Netflix, the Canadian series Departure is once again seeing a rise in its popularity.

Depending on how you look at it, Departure can even be considered a sort of "sister" series to Manifest. The story centers around the Tsif (Transport Safety and Investigations Bureau), an entity that investigates and tries to understand the cause of major airline disasters.

Fans of shows like Homelandand Manifest from across the globe are watching this five-year-old Peacock original mystery thriller. The Canadian series, Departure, which aired for three seasons, is gaining ground on the global streaming charts. Per FlixPatrol, Departure is in the Number 10 spot in Netflix’s Global Top 10 as of July 5.

Globally, Netflix’s Squid Gameis topping the charts with The Sandman, Attack on London: Hunting the 7/7 Bombers, The Waterfront, and Olympo rounding out the Top 5.

Departure stars Archie Panjabi, who won an Emmy in 2010 for her role in The Good Wife, and the late Christopher Plummer, who won an Oscar in 2012 for Beginners, and starred in movies like The Sound of Music, Knives Out, and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.The cast also features Mark Rendall, Kris Holden-Reid, and Eric McCormack.

An airplane thriller with 80% on Rotten Tomatoes becomes a global hit on Netflix more than four years after its debut. Though it arrived very late in the year, the airplane thriller premise received a boost with Carry-On. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, with T. J. Fixman writing the script. The story centers on a Tsa officer who's blackmailed into allowing a nerve agent on board a flight during Christmas Eve. The cast of Carry-On is led by Taron Egerton, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, and Jason Bateman.

By the start of 2025, Carry-On demolished records to become the fifth-most-watched English-language Netflix Original of all time. That data will soon be backed up by Nielsen's streaming charts. But the initial response underlines the holiday-themed thriller struck a nerve with audiences. Another plane-centric suspense saga is catching on with subscribers, albeit four years after it originally premiered on a rival platform.

Sebastian Stan was highly praised for portraying Donald Trump in the biographical drama, The Apprentice. While the movie did not make a huge splash at the box office, it stirred up a lot of controversy prior to its release, thanks mainly to the former and new president of America. Now Stan has revealed that since Trumps unprecedented election victory, he has found himself being shut out when it comes to being able to speak about the movie even having to cancel an episode of Varietys Actors on Actors series as no one would participate with him.

Speaking at a Q&a after a screening of The Apprentice, Stan joined director Ali Abbasi to talk about the film, and revealed that he has struggled to find people willing to openly discuss the movie and its subject in any way for fear of receiving some kind of blowback for it. Stan said:...

Sebastian Stan was tasked with gaining 15 pounds when he took on the role of Donald Trump in “The Apprentice” — a feat he managed with the help of Coca-Cola. “I actually started drinking a lot of Coca-Cola. Tell you, if you drink four Coca-Colas a day, a lot of things happen to your body. Don’t do it,” he told “Entertainment Tonight.”

“I think it is important that we try and understand this person beyond just, you know, the red tie and the flare and the mannerisms and everything, and just try to get underneath it,” Stan added.

Stan’s weight gain method of choice was somewhat appropriate, given Trump’s own love of soda. Of course, Trump doesn’t go for the sugary version — he shared in 2017 that he drinks 12 Diet Cokes a day.

Since its announcement, the Donald Trump biopic has had a looming shadow of controversy around it. Given the former president's life story, it's easy to see why folks would be for or against it. The Apprentice premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to resounding applause. Written by Gabriel Sherman and directed by Ali Abbasi, the story follows Trump's early career and his quest to expand his real estate under the guidance of lawyer Roy Cohn. While the film is exactly what you'd expect, it comes with stunning performances and an exciting script that enchants with its drama.

A new clip has been released for the upcoming Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice. The film stars Sebastian Stan (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) portraying Trump in his younger years.

Shared online by Briarcliff Entertainment, the clip from The Apprentice spans about one minute long. Though images of Stan in the role of Trump had previously been revealed, the new footage marks the first time his voice as the future president has been heard. The video features Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong) advising Trump during a phone call with a journalist while the two are riding in the back seat of a car. Of course, Stan is also brandishing Trump's familiar hairstyle, and he's wearing a suit that's reminiscent of the era. The clip can be viewed below.

The upcoming Donald Trump movie The Apprentice has been plagued by controversy since it was announced in Nov.2023, with the former President attempting to prevent its release. However, director Ali Abbasi says the project is free from any political malice.

"I have allowed myself as a non-American to take a deep look into this country and system," Abbasi told the crowd during a screening at the Telluride Film Festival (via Deadline). The filmmaker explained that his intention was to tell an exploratory story. "On a more serious note, at least for myself, this is not a political hit piece. This is a mirror and it is intended to show you, as the mirrors do, an image of yourselves, not you per-se, but you as community."

If former president Donald Trump was hoping that the controversial movie about him wouldn't see the light of day before his current re-election bid, he might want to put his hopes elsewhere. The Apprentice gained buzz when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and it's a film that Trump clearly doesn't want people to see, but it looks like it's still full steam ahead for a release right before the upcoming election.

Per Deadline, The Apprentice was picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment for U.S. distribution, with a release date planned for Oct. 11, but that was in doubt due to mediation between the film's producers and its financiers, Kinematics. The latter is owned by Trump supporter Dan Snyder, who took issue with how Trump (played by Sebastian Stan in the film) was portrayed in the movie, particularly in a scene where he rapes his former wife...

Arthur, the longest-running children’s animated series in the history of American television, has ended with its 25th season. Developed for PBS by Kathy Waugh and produced by Wgbh, the series centers on a young aardvark of the same name, and the lessons he learns from friends and family while growing up in the fictional Elwood City.

Season three of international thriller drama series Departure, headlined by Archie Panjabi, has begun production in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Toronto. Will & Grace alum Eric McCormack has joined the series, produced by Shaftesbury in association with Corus Entertainment, Starlings Television and Red Arrow Studios International.

Departure, whose existing two seasons are streaming on Peacock, was renewed for a third season by Canadian network Global in May. Based on the popular Arthur Adventure childrens' book series by Marc Brown, the Arthur television show debuted on PBS in 1996. Arthur, the longest-running children’s animated series in the history of American television, is set to end with its 25th season.

The iconic children’s series will end on PBS Kids with its final season debuting in the winter of 2022.

The news emerged from an interview with Kathy Waugh, who originally developed the show from the books by Marc Brown, on the Finding Dw podcast with Jason Szwimer.

“Arthur is no longer in production. We had our wrap party two years ago,” Waugh told Szwimer. “I think [PBS] made a mistake, and I think Arthur should come back and I’m know I’m not alone in thinking they made a mistake. Departure is returning to Peacock with another mystery to solve.

the streamer has dropped the second season trailer of the intense conspiracy series which follows the ensuing investigation into a mysterious crash of a controversial new high-speed train traveling between Toronto and Chicago. 

Departure Season 2  is set to launch on Peacock on August 5.

Season 2 of the conspiracy series follows Malley (played by The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi) as she is recruited to investigate a new transportation disaster — the derailment of an experimental high-speed train in rural Michigan, whilst traveling between Toronto and Chicago.

Showtime announced “Moonbase 8,” starring Tim Heidecker and John C. Reilly, will premiere Nov. 8 at 11 p.m. The sci-fi comedy follows astronauts who train to qualify for their first lunar mission. But their plans change when a series of events forces the astronauts to question their mental sanity.

Peacock has picked up Departure, the Canadian drama starring The Good Wife’s Archie Panjabi and Christopher Plummer, ahead of the service’s nationwide launch Wednesday.

The NBCU streamer has acquired the rights to the drama, which was originally commissioned by Canada’s Global. The company already has rights to the six-part thriller in a number of international territories including the UK.

The show stars Panjabi as investigator Kendra Malley, who alongside her mentor, played by Knives Out star Plummer, are brought on to search for missing passenger plane Flight 716. When battling forces threaten to undermine their work, Kendra must find the truth and stop it from happening again.

The wait is almost over, “A.P. Bio” fans. On Tuesday, Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, revealed the premiere date for Season 3 of the Glenn Howerton-led comedy, which was originally canceled at NBC last May and then picked up by Peacock the following month.

The third season of “A.P. Bio” will launch Sept. 3 on Peacock, according to the streaming service, which rolls out nationwide Wednesday. Other upcoming Peacock original series that received debut dates from the platform today include “Departure,” a Canadian-British drama starring Archie Panjabi and Christopher Plummer, which will premiere Sept. 17, Australian comedy “Five Bedrooms” (Aug. 13) and the Sky Studios-produced “Hitmen” (Aug. 6).

While you still have to wait a little while for these series to drop, Peacock is launching in full tomorrow with originals “Brave New World,” “The Capture,” “Intelligence,” “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home,” “Where’s Waldo?,” “Cleopatra In Space” and ”Curious George,” along with an extensive lineup of library content.

For A.P. Bio, at least, school will definitely be back in session this fall.

Ahead of Peacock‘s national July 15 launch, the streaming service has announced that Season 3 of A.P. Bio — which it plucked from the ashes almost exactly a year ago — will premiere Thursday, Sept. 3 (releasing all eight episodes at once, binge-style).

Acorn TV has partnered with Irish broadcaster RTÉ on its latest drama co-production – period mystery Dead Still.

The U.S. Svod service will launch the six-part series in 2020. It comes from Irish producer Deadpan Pictures, Toronto-based Shaftesbury and Germany’s Zdf Enterprises.

Set in 1880s Ireland in the Victorian era heyday of postmortem photography, the period drama follows a renowned memorial photographer as he investigates the murders of his recently deceased subjects

Written by John Morton (People Like Us) and directed by Imogen Murphy (Red Rock) and Craig David Wallace (Slasher), Acorn TV has rights in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom; co-premiere rights in Canada; and secondary rights in Ireland. Zdf Enterprises will distribute the series in the rest of the world. It was developed with the support of Screen Ireland and Creative Europe.

Ever wonder where the phrase Stockholm syndrome came from? The answer can more or less be found in Robert Budreau’s bank-heist biopic “Stockholm.” The film announces its intentions from the start, boldly declaring itself “Based on an absurd but true story.” Neither claim — the absurdity, nor the truth — is entirely accurate, leading to a movie that is both intermittently compelling and consistently uneven.

Budreau certainly has enough to work with, having adapted a lengthy 1974 New Yorker story about a still-infamous robbery in Sweden. Though the names and, as it turns out, some crucial details have been changed, the script hews fairly close to the basic event. An impish Hawke blasts things off as Lars Nystrom, the Swedish-born, American-raised troublemaker who announces his arrival at Stockholm’s biggest bank by blaring Bob Dylan on the radio while simultaneously brandishing a machine gun.

The names have been changed. That might not mean much since “true stories” generally do that by making composites of certain characters to give the drama a more cinematic feel, but it means a lot here considering the topic at-hand: Stockholm syndrome. It’s a complex subject dealing with the notion that captives have been known to develop a psychological attachment to their captors that’s strong enough to want to protect them from harm despite themselves being in harm as a result of being held captive. Initially thought to be simple brainwashing, its definition ultimately expanded to shed light on the fact that the reaction was itself a survival technique. If your life depends on the police cooperating and they refuse, don’t they become the bad guys?

Dark Star has debuted the first official trailer for the indie crime comedy Stockholm, made by Canadian director Robert Budreau. This true crime film tells the strange story of the infamous 1973 hostage crisis in Stockholm, which is where the term "Stockholm Syndrome" originates. Ethan Hawke stars as Lars, a "charming, bumbling, Bob Dylan-loving crook" who one day tries to rob the biggest bank in Stockholm, Sweden, taking the bank staff and patrons hostage. But as they soon discover, he's not all that he seems, and soon enough some of the hostages begin to help him figure out how to safely escape with the money. Exclusive: Archie Panjabi and Christopher Plummer have been set to lead an ensemble cast in the event thriller Departure. A Canada/UK co-production, the six-part drama will air on Canada’s Global in 2019. Shaftesbury and Greenpoint Productions are producing in association with Corus Entertainment. Starlings Television will co-finance and oversee distribution worldwide.

Created by Vincent Shiao, the conspiracy series follows the mystery of a passenger plane that vanishes over the Atlantic Ocean. Principal photography has just begun in Toronto with filming also to take place in London.

Netflix has released the trailer for its original comic crime thriller “Shimmer Lake,” starring Rainn Wilson, Benjamin Walker and Wyatt Russell. The film marks the directorial debut of “22 Jump Street” and “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth” writer Oren Uziel.

Written by Uziel, “Shimmer Lake” follows local sheriff Zeke Sikes (Walker) as he attempts to untangle the mystery of three small-town criminals and a bank robbery gone wrong. Wilson plays Andy, the sheriff’s brother who recklessly attempts to rob a bank, and the two unknowingly embark on a game of cat-and-mouse. The story, which involves many shady characters, is told backwards, reversing day by day through a week. The film also stars Rob Corddry, Ron Livingston, Stephanie Sigman, Adam Pally, John Michael Higgins, Mark Rendall, Angela Vint and Isabelle Dove as Andy’s daughter Sally.

With just a few weeks until it debuts on the streaming service, Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming indie Shimmer Lake, which is slated to arrive June 9. This dark comedy is set during the aftermath of a bank robbery in a small town, but nothing is as it seems, including the actual format of the movie itself. While we can't exactly tell from the trailer, this movie is told in reverse time.

Netflix debuted the trailer for this darkly comic crime thriller on YouTube today, which follows a local sheriff named Zeke Sikes (Benjamin Walker) hunting three bank robbery suspects, one of whom is his brother Andy (Rainn Wilson). From the trailer's opening moments, we can tell that Zeke is a straight shooter, so to speak, telling his young niece Sally (Isabel Dove) that everyone in town thinks they can do whatever they want with no repercussions.

A year after first premiering at South by Southwest, “The Other Half” is due in theaters this month. Starring real-life couple Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”) and Tom Cullen (“Downton Abbey,” “Weekend”), the romantic drama concerns the bond that forms between a man in the throes of grief and a woman living with bipolar disorder. In it, Maslany and Cullen’s characters lie on the grass in a park and have a half-serious, half-joking conversation: “So is this just what you do?” she asks him. “Go from girl to girl to girl?” They begin to embrace as our field of vision gets blurred, an intimate moment that gets interrupted by a lewd question from a man nearby.

– Bleecker Street has secured U.S. distribution rights to Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s true-life story, “Megan Leavey.” The film is based on the life of Leavey (Kate Mara), a young marine corporal in the K9 unit whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved many lives during their deployment in Iraq.

TNT delivers Transporter: The Series to American audiences this Saturday at 9/8c, via the international, small-screen adaptation starring Chris Vance (Prison Break) as the titular delivery man.

“He’s like the Ups guy — but he’s got an Audi,” Vance quips of his character, Frank Martin, who in three big screen outings was played by Jason Statham.

In the Transporter series, Frank is joined by two team members — ex-dgse agent Caterina Boldieu (Italian actress/singer Violante Placido) and later computer whiz Jules Faroux (Hannibal‘s Mark Rendall) — as he is contracted to handle a diverse array of packages, from pop singers to priceless paintings.
