As Drew Cain on General Hospital, Cameron Mathison is going through a host of challenges as the newly-elected politician is embroiled in a scandalous love affair with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), the wife of his nephew Michael (Chad Duell). Off-screen, Drew’s situation arguably pales in comparison to his portrayer’s. As Mathison’s social media followers are well aware, it’s as if the Daytime Emmy acting nominee’s tumultuous real-life is being written from that great soap in the sky by the late James E. Reilly (Passions) on crack cocaine. Despite his recent tragedies, including his house burning down, the actor showed up to present at the 32nd Annual Movieguide Awards that taped on Friday night at the Avalon Theatre in Hollywood. The show, which honors faith-based programming, is set to pay tribute to the First Responders of the Los Angeles Fires when it airs next month on Gac...

In light of the news that All My Children is potentially being rebooted as a holiday movie on Lifetime, SoapHub reached out to a few of your favorite Passions alums to see their thoughts about the potential to bring their show back.
History
Passions debuted on NBC on July 5, 1999, and was the brainchild of James E. Reilly, who had previously written for Days of our Lives. Known for its unique mix of supernatural elements and traditional soap opera drama, Passions centered around the residents of Harmony, a fictional New England town. Storylines featured family rivalries, forbidden romances, and other soap staples, but it was the supernatural twists that set Passions apart. Characters like the witch Tabitha Lennox and her doll-turned-son Timmy added an eccentric flair, captivating audiences with spells, curses, and strange occurrences.
Despite its unique approach, Passions struggled with ratings, but its devoted fanbase kept it going for almost a decade.

Here's why Mary Elizabeth Winstead left soap opera Passions after only a year. Much of Mary Elizabeth Winstead's early movie work consisted of horror movies or action, including a lead role in Final Destination 3, trashy remake Black Christmas or 2007's Live Free Or Die Hard. Her role as Ramona Flowers in Scott Pilgrim Vs The World proved to be something of a breakout, which she soon followed with lead roles in movies like 2011's The Thing, drama Smashed or 10 Cloverfield Lane (which Fear The Walking Dead once recreated).
Like many young actors, Winstead got his start on a soap opera. Passions debuted on NBC in 1999, with the show being created by soap veteran James E. Reilly. The series focused on the town of Harmony, and in addition to the regular soap opera storylines of affairs and love triangles, Passions also included supernatural elements like witches and a living doll named Timmy.

In Part 1 of our interview with writer Sheri Anderson, the Emmy Award winner revealed how the new trilogy of Days Of Our Lives novels came about, and shared her thoughts on web series and how soap operas can be informative and still entertaining.
In Part 2 below, Anderson discusses her last stint at Days, not cheating the audience, and making a living as a writer.
We Love Soaps TV: How much fun was it to write these novels without having to think about sets or actors?
Sheri Anderson: I developed an animated show at one point and it was the same thing where you'd say, "Wow, I can go anywhere!" I had some of The Powers That Be say after the first novel, "This would make a great movie. We should make this a movie." It has 600 foot yachts in the south of France, superstars, Maseratis and Aston Martins crashing.

Yesterday, NBC announced that its long-running—and sometimes possessed-character featuring—soap opera Days of Our Lives had been renewed for two more years, with an option for an additional third year. The new contract ensures that the daytime drama will be on the air through at least September 2013. And no surprise, the news corresponded with a milestone for the show—its rather amazing 45th anniversary of being on the air. That’s a feat, when you consider that major soaps have been killed off both this year and last. (R.I.P., As the World Turns and Guiding Light.)

The peacock network is announcing today that the eight-year-old soap Passions has been cancelled. This comes as a shock to some but the writing has been on the wall for awhile. Still, things may not be as grim as they may seem.
Passions debuted on July 5, 1999 and was created by Jim Reilly, a writer from Days of Our Lives. Reilly is the head writer on the soap and is an executive producer with Lisa de Cazotte. The supernatural sudser takes place in fictional New England town Harmony and replaced the long-running Another World. Now it looks like Passions will be replaced itself.
The soap has been in danger for quite some time. When NBC renewed the series in May 2006, the network renewed it only for one year and required significant budget cuts. As a result, $4-5 million was slashed from the yearly budget and caused several crewmembers and performers to be let go.
