Carrie Preston’s CBS procedural Elsbeth is adding Julia Fox to its roster of season 3 guest stars, with the actor set to play a social-media figure whose brand is built around bereavement. CBS describes Fox’s character, Raquel Drabowski, as “a Staten Island widow turned upscale ‘grief influencer’ and reality star.”
The new season begins with a special Sunday premiere on October 12 at 9:30/8:30c, then shifts to its regular Thursday slot on October 16 at 10/9c, part of the network’s fall rollout that pairs Elsbeth behind Matlock.
The premiere will lean into late-night TV satire, featuring Stephen Colbert as fictional talk-show host Scotty Bristol; Amy Sedaris, Andy Richter, and Lindsay Mendez also appear in the episode, with Mendez playing an NYPD officer who intersects with Elsbeth on a comedy-world case. David Cross is slated for episode two, continuing the series’ strategy of stacking its “how-catchem” format with recognizable faces.

Elsbeth is currently filming for season three, and we have the newest set photos!
On Tuesday (August 12), Carrie Preston was seen on the set with her co-stars including Wendell Pierce in New York City.
There were some guest stars also seen, including David Cross, Christina Brucato, and Danielle Troiano. Based on the costumes with a Raggedy Ann and Doctor, it looks like this could be for a Halloween-themed episode!
Unfortunately, if you look through the set photos, you’ll notice a former series regular is missing. That’s because Carra Patterson, who starred in the past two seasons as Officer Kaya Blanke, is exiting the series.
There are also two more cast exits for Elsbeth season three that have been confirmed at this time.

How is this for an ironic twist — as Stephen Colbert is preparing to say goodbye as the host of CBS’ The Late Show, he also is portraying a late-night host for CBS with a guest role on the upcoming third season of the network’s crime anthology Elsbeth, Deadline has confirmed.
Colbert is not playing himself in the episode, which filmed this week. According to Vulture, which first reported the news, he plays the host of the fictional Way Late with Scotty Bristol. Each episode of Elsbeth solves a different murder; it is unclear how Bristol is connected to that case of the week.
A rep for CBS declined comment.
Primetime series take months of lead time from conceiving an episode to its filming, so Elsbeth’s late-night storyline had been in the works long before CBS announced two and a half weeks ago that The Late Show will be ending next May.

Busy Philipps has found success with her QVC+ and Hsn+ late night talk show Busy This Week. Now in Season 2, the show sees the host get her celeb guests to share things they’ve never done before. The July 16 episode with Elsbeth’s Carrie Preston is proof of that as she looks back on her time on True Blood and shares a surprising behind-the-scenes story involving adult film stars as extras. In the exclusive clip above, the Emmy-winning actress also reveals which Elsbeth guest star she’d love to have back as many times as possible. This came after Philipps asked center of the CBS hit series if there has ever been a guest star that has come on that she was like, “I can’t even deal with this?” Preston responded with all of them before naming Tracey Ullman. “That’s giant,” she said. “I used to watch her show religiously.

Elsbeth‘s casting director stays busy with a constant rotation of guest stars to play killers of the week on the Columbo-inspired CBS procedural. The series has collected a star-studded guest list across two seasons that includes Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick (and his son!), Laurie Metcalf, Alyssa Milano, Mary-Louise Parker, David Alan Grier, Vanessa Williams, and more. And of course, Season 2 had a noteworthy recurring guest star in Michael Emerson, Carrie Preston‘s husband who came on as Elsbeth Tascioni’s arch nemesis. Casting director Findley Davidson already has her eye on her ideal guest star for Elsbeth Season 3. Discussing the guest star casting process, Davidson said it was harder to get talent booked in Season 1 when the show was still a relative unknown. While Preston’s character is a fan-favorite from The Good Wife and The Good Fight, the Elsbeth title didn’t immediately click for agents. “I’d call up somewhere like CAA,...

Looks like Dance Mom will boogie all the way to the Emmy podium.
Julianne Nicholson, who played the joyous (and drug-addicted) character on Hacks Season 4, now leads the Best Comedy Guest Actress race, taking down longtime frontrunner Jamie Lee Curtis for The Bear, who won last year. Nicholson's Dance Mom, aka Mary Alice, was recruited by Paul W. Downs' Jimmy and Megan Stalter's Kayla to appear on Late Night With Deborah Vance as a way for the talk show-within-a-show to gain a younger audience. At first, Jean Smart's Deborah was hesitant to let the untested woman take the stage, until she realized it would annoy Hannah Einbinder's Ava, and then all bets were off.
There's a new Hacks tonight, but I have not yet recovered from Julianne Nicholson dancing to Katy Perry's "Lifetimes" as Dance Mom in last week's episode. pic.twitter.com/SH3OPittFI

When it comes to Emmy nominations, a little hopeful speculation (or hopediction) never hurt anyone.
As voting wrapped up on June 23, we recently unveiled Gold Derby's latest nomination predictions. Yet, which contenders are we not-so-secretly rooting for to defy expectations and snag a nomination? Below, our editors share their picks for who they'd love to see surprise us on the final Emmy ballots announced July 15.
Carrie Preston for Best Drama Actress, Elsbeth
She’s one of the most colorful (literally) characters on television. Just try to imagine anyone else playing Elsbeth Tascioni. No one else could pull off that wardrobe, those accessories, that sly, smarter-than-your-average-criminal sensibility but Carrie Preston. It’s simply a crime in and of itself that her work on Elsbeth been ignored by voters, a victim herself of the bias against CBS procedurals (a case Kathy Bates’ Matlock may well solve). If Poker Face and The Residence...

Books and TV shows have had a special relationship for over a century now. There have been countless TV adaptations of popular books, and even if we count this year (which isn’t over), there have been over seven or eight. While there have been many brilliant books that were adapted through the years, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the TV shows are also good, and that’s why we decided to compile a list of the absolute best TV shows that were based on books. As a side note, we also decided not to include Game of Thrones and Dexter, mainly because of how they ended.

After reuniting with some of Elsbeth‘s biggest guests for a star-studded musical Season 2 finale, Carrie Preston is ready to apprehend more of the Great White Way.
While attending last weekend’s 78th Tony Awards, the Emmy-winning actress teased who from Broadway she’d like to work with on an upcoming season of the CBS procedural comedy drama.
“There’s so many people on this red carpet that I’ve met tonight or that I know. I always ask them, ‘Do you wanna be on the show? Because I’ll pass it along,'” she told Us Weekly at the awards show.
Preston added, “So I saw Brooke Shields tonight. I saw Celia Keenan-Bolger tonight. Of course Cole Escola. I’d like to see if we can round up pretty much everybody on Broadway and get them on.”

Carrie Preston didn’t think she’d ever be headlining her first television series, much less as a character she’s played off and on for 15 years. The seasoned actress, whose small-screen resume is filled with memorable supporting parts in “True Blood” and “Claws,” first played Elsbeth Tascioni in 2010 in “The Good Wife.” She was an eccentric but brilliant lawyer with unconventional methods of solving tough cases. The character’s unique tics, scatterbrained quips and sunny disposition made her a fan favorite, winning Preston her first guest-actress Emmy in 2013. She reprised the role in the spinoff “The Good Fight,” where she directed two episodes.
When creators Robert and Michelle King gave Preston her own star vehicle with CBS’ “Elsbeth” — a “Columbo”-inspired “howdunit” police procedural — the 57-year-old actress was more than ready for the opportunity.

Carrie Preston has portrayed Elsbeth Tascioni — a delightfully unpredictable attorney — for more than 15 years. What began as a recurring character on The Good Wife evolved into a fan-favorite performance that continued on The Good Fight and now leads her own CBS series, Elsbeth, heading into its third season. With each iteration, Preston has peeled back more layers of Elsbeth’s eccentric persona, revealing a character as emotionally complex as she is offbeat.
“I love Elsbeth’s curiosity and her wonder and her positive attitude,” Preston tells Gold Derby. “It takes discipline to approach the world that way. It's infectious. I love getting inside of that mindset every day because it really helps me in my life.”
While “quirky” is often the go-to descriptor for Elsbeth, Preston believes there's more beneath the surface. “I don’t mind anyone calling her that, but that can be a little bit of a simplification,...

After hosting the Tony Awards, Cynthia Erivo and crew headed to the Russian Tea Room in New York, where award winners and celebrities decided to shed the formalities of the evening and skip to the celebration.
“I’m sick of talking. I think we should all dance now,” Erivo announced to the starry crowd, after being handed a mic while sitting on top of a banquette in a short black taffeta dress.
At the party, aptly named Cyn City, the Wicked star led a crowd up to the second floor of the famed New York venue, where a dance circle formed around her as Abba’s “Gimme Gimme” played. Dancers included Julianne Hough; Danielle Brooks, who starred in The Color Purple on Broadway with Erivo; Adrienne Warren, currently starring in The Last Five Years on Broadway; Dylan Mulvaney; and Lena Waithe, as the music transitioned to Beyoncé tunes and other pop hits.
