Viola Davis has the kind of star power that's not often seen nowadays. She gives off classic Hollywood vibes, not becoming too accessible to the public, keeping her personal life private, but is seen just enough to keep fans wanting more. The Academy Award-winner not only becomes a character, but she also ensures audiences see her as the character and not the beloved star behind the role. From The Woman King to Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Fences, The Suicide Squad, The Help, and more, there's no placing Davis in a box. This year, she lept into action courtesy of Amazon, and has found huge success on streaming.
Earlier this year, playing President Sutton in the Amazon MGM Studios film G20was added to her list of stellar performances, and the film has been a massive hit on Prime Video since its April 10, 2025, release date. According to Deadline, the Davis-led film...

Things might not be all sunshine and rainbows when the 2-7 and the 1-6 join forces again in the upcoming Law & Order crossover. This Thursday's crossover between Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, "Play With Fire" parts 1 and 2 will bring the 27th and 16th precincts together after the murder of a woman with personal ties to Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). According to Law & Order showrunner, Rick Eid, the crossover will inevitably see Benson and Maura Tierney's Lieutenant Jessica Brady butting heads. He tells TVInsider:
“Benson and Brady have the same goal,” Eid explains, “but may not always arrive at it in the same way.”
The possibility of a conflict between Benson and Brady is more apparent in Svu's crossover promo, rather than in the one for Law & Order. In the promo for "Play With Fire" part 2, Benson seemingly says to Brady "sometimes you have to ask for forgiveness instead of permission.

Viola Davis is one of the most accomplished actors of her generation. Come to think of it, she’s one of the most accomplished actors of any generation. Respected, beloved, she’s given her heart and soul to powerful dramas that enrich the human spirit. But sometimes she also wants to beat the crap out of bad guys, and gosh danged it, good for her. Every great actor should get their own “Die Hard” knockoff at least once. I’d pay good money to watch Glenn Close kick the crap out of mercenaries on a zeppelin, wouldn’t you?
“G20” isn’t remotely as powerful, thrilling, or groundbreaking as “The Woman King,” but that’s a tall order. It stars Viola Davis as President Danielle Sutton, a war hero about to introduce a new plan at the international G20 summit to save impoverished people the world over by some-something-something cryptocurrency.

With her new presidential action flick G20, Viola Davis understands the desire to politicize her role.
Noting they made the movie before Kamala Harris lost the 2024 election to Donald Trump, the Oscar winner can see “probably in hindsight” how her butt-kicking politician character President Danielle Sutton might make voters long for what could have been.
“I do not think it’s a suspension of disbelief to imagine someone who looks like me as the president,” Davis told UK’s The Times.
Davis also explained why President Sutton’s political party is never clarified in the film. “If you get down to the nitty gritty, we just wanna reach people,” she said of the movie, hitting theaters April 10.
Although her onscreen counterpart is undeclared, Davis endorsed Harris for president in November, narrating the former Democratic vice president’s ‘Mother‘ campaign video.

Viola Davis is an Egot winner and is widely considered one of the greatest dramatic actors of her generation, which is why some people are confused about “G20.” The straight-to-streaming Prime Video movie casts Davis in a “White House Down”-style action movie. She plays a U.S. president who becomes the target of an attack during the eponymous world leaders summit. But this president knows how to be an action star and can save herself. Move over, Secret Service.
Speaking to The Times of London, Davis defended her choice to star in a shoot-em-up action movie despite her award-winning bonafides. As she simply put it: “I don’t think every movie you do has to be considered for an Academy Award. I wanted to do something that families could watch together, something popular.”

Hollywood royalty Viola Davis wants to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and since her resume is full of versatile characters, the idea isn't far-fetched. In her upcoming latest project, G20, Davis plays United States President Danielle Sutton. The action thriller film's plot consists of President Sutton protecting her family, fellow leaders and the world as the G20 Summit in Cape Town is taken over by terrorists. It'll be released on April 10, 2025, on Prime Video and the role is a prime example of why Marvel should listen to Davis's pitch and consider giving her the role of 'Iron Mania.'
According to EW, one character in the Amazon MGM Studios production refers to President Sutton as "Captain America." This prompted EW to ask the Academy Award winner, at the red carpet premiere, if she has an interest in being a superhero in Marvel's universe. Davis responds, "Yeah, absolutely. I...

Academy Award-winner Viola Davis (Air; The Woman King; Kung Fu Panda 4) may be a DC staple, but it sounds like she's open to exploring another comic book universe.
While catching up with Entertainment Weekly, during the worldwide premiere of her new action thriller G20, Davis revealed that she's a big fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that she would would happily join that world, if the opportunity presented itself.
"Yeah, absolutely. I don't know what hero I would be, you know. I just, my daughter is a Marvel fanatic, so I've watched, I think almost all of them five, six times."
Asked to pick a possible role, the Oscar-winner joked, "Probably an Iron Man. I would be — maybe Iron Mania? Iron Shaniqua Mania?"
While she may need to workshop which character she'd be interested in, it's hard to imagine her comments haven't already found their way over to the powers at Marvel Studios.
