- A chronic alcoholic. he was sacked from ITV's The Bill (1984) for turning up drunk and for not having learnt his lines. Within days, he was admitted to a clinic in Burton upon Trent for detoxification and was administered Antabuse, but left the premises to drink. He returned to the clinic in an intoxicated state, retired to bed, fell asleep, then choked on his vomit.
- His father was a police sergeant. His uncle and grandfather were also police officers. Kevin drew on aspects of his father's personality and manner in creating the character of Tosh for The Bill (1984).
- His younger brother Terry Lloyd was a war reporter for ITN (Independent Television News) in the UK until he was killed at the age of 50 when he was caught in crossfire on 23 March 2003 while reporting from the front line on the Iraq war.
