- Besides his activity in the film business Gerhard Lamprecht was also busy as a movie historian after his active career. To his well-known publications belong a lexicon of volumes called "Gesamtregister Deutsche Stummfilme aus den Jahren 1903 bis 1931".
- He entered the film business as a screenwriter in 1918 and in his first years he wrote the screenplays for "Marionetten der Leidenschaft" (1919), "Der Seelenverkäufer" (1919) und "Der Flimmerprinz" (1919).
- The director and writer Gerhard Lamprecht was interested in the film business at a young age and when he was 17 he was able to sell his first movie script. Two years later he took acting lessons by the famous actor Paul Bildt and he began his artistic career at the theater.
- His extensive collection about the German film history led to the foundation of the "Deutsche Kinemathek" in 1962. He was the head of this institution till 1966.
