Hamilton finds her and joins in the deception until Van Dam's secretary tries to make off with the fortune on hearing the false rumor of Van Dam's death. Van Dam consents readily to his daughter's marriage when he returns.

Following a night of particularly wild dissipation, Charles Meredyth decides to cure his son, Gallop, of his convivial habits, tells him that he has killed a taxi driver, and offers to help him escape. Gallop lands in a small southwestern town whose only inhabitants are its founder, Granville Truce; his daughter, Pauline; and a gang of Mexican bandits. Gallop discovers that Truce has developed a rust remover from cactus oil and markets the product. While routing the bandits, Gallop puts the town on the map and a ring on Pauline's finger.

Tom Markham is the foreman of an Arizona dude ranch. He travels to the "big city" for a meeting with the ranch's owner, George Brooks, after which he will accompany Brooks' daughter Ellen back to the ranch. Brooks tells Tom about the Regent diamond, a valuable stone that Brooks has set in a ring for Ellen. Ellen's friend Rodney Stevens hears about it. Stevens, who is actually the boss of a bandit gang, has his men steal the diamond, but Tom manages to get it back. Stevens doesn't give up, though, and hatches a plan that will get him back the diamond and frame Tom for stealing it.

American sculptress Adele La Rue, working in Paris, lacks the inspiration to create a masterpiece, until Jean Ballard, a wild apache leader, takes refuge from the police in her apartment. Adele saves him from capture on the condition that he pose as the model for one of her works. Adele and Jean fall in love, finding happiness with each other until Marie, Jean's former love, insults him by telling him he is no better than a rich woman's lap dog. Jean returns to the underworld and becomes involved in a gang war with a rival gang, the Wolves. Looking for Jean, Adele goes to a cafe he is known to frequent, where she is abducted by the Wolves. When Jean comes to rescue her, he is also captured. The Wolves heat knives with which to torture the reunited lovers, but before they can be used, the police arrive and open fire on the Wolves' hideout. During the excitement, Marie, who has joined the Wolves, repents of her hate and releases Adele and Jean. They jump from an open window just as the hideout is destroyed by artillery fire. Jean decides to repent, and the lovers look forward to a romantic future together.

Raoul Lesage suspects his wife, April, of infidelity with Herman Bennett, an artist, and forsakes her, living for the next 20 years in a hermitage surrounded by high walls. He is accompanied in this solitary life only by his young son, Paul, who, at the age of 21, has not seen anything of women or the world. One night, Paul walks in his sleep and wanders from his home. He falls into the company of his mother (whom he does not recognize), Bennett, and Bennett's beautiful ward, Helen, with whom Paul soon falls in love. After a series of thrilling adventures, Paul foils Bennett and reunites his parents; he and Helen hear wedding bells.

Harry Sweet in the story is an outcast from society, as he is a ne'er do well. He rents a room where Gale Henry is a landlady. He is unable to pay his room rent. Instead of paying his room rent with money he earned. Someone was always selling him something on his way home to pay the rent. Finally, the landlady threatens to put him out of the house, but as she goes to notify him, she hears an attorney reading the will of his grandfather, who has left Harry Sweet a million dollars. From then on he is chased by women, and his landlady Gale Henry in particular, all of the women trying to marry him.

Jeff Daggett, owner of a garage in Rockett, Arizona, neglects his business for work on a new type of automobile motor, while Johnny Fox, his assistant, handles the business. President Holtwood of a motor company and his daughter Nadine are driving to California when their car breaks down near Rockett. Jeff explains the features of his invention to Holtwood, who wires to Rexton, his chief engineer, to come look at the design; Rexton, who sees in Jeff a rival to Nadine, disparages the motor and proposes that Jeff race the car against his own. Rexton is stopped by a highwayman who steals the car, and the three start off in pursuit. Jeff overtakes and overcomes the bandit; subsequently, he accepts Holtwood's offer to work for him.

Jeff Decker, with the help of Indian leader Red Dog, orchestrates a series of raids on the town of Coldwater, planning to drive the residents out of town and buy up all of their horses, while also starting false rumors of a gold strike outside of town so he can sell phony claims to prospective miners. He hires Fred Coulter, a struggling miner, to buy the horses. Decker also decides that he wants pretty Ruth Browning, whose aunt owns the local eating establishment. Fred learns of Decker's duplicity, and tries to get the miners and townspeople together to fight off an impending Indian attack orchestrated by Decker.

Julius and Pete have a contest to swim across the English Channel, with Alice as the referee.

Joe Holland, the superintendent of a gold mine, saves his invalid friend, Weadon Scott, from a pack of wolves. Frank Wilde, an executive engaged to Holland's daughter, Mollie, buys White Fang, a man-eating dog, from an Indian and matches him with a bulldog in a pit fight. Scott rescues the dog and tames him. After Mollie Holland marries Wilde, she discovers that he is robbing the mine. Mollie tells Scott of Wilde's perfidy, but Wilde escapes, blackjacking Scott and killing Holland. Orphaned, Mollie goes to the home of Judson Black, the owner of the mine. Wilde attempts to spirit her away and is killed by White Fang. Scott and Mollie eventually find happiness together.

World War hero James Lewis MacFarlane, tired of being shunted from one government hospital to another for a wound that will not heal, runs away when he learns that he has but a year to live. He is befriended by The Bee Master, who is ill and soon dies. Jamie inherits half of the estate and apiary, with the other half going to "Little Scout," an 11-year-old girl who dresses as a boy. He marries a girl about to drown herself because she is to bear a child out of wedlock; his "wife" disappears immediately afterward, leaving a note signed "Alice Louise MacFarlane." With the aid of a neighbor, Margaret Cameron, Jamie soon recovers his health. He is notified that his "wife" has given birth to a son, but when he arrives at the hospital Jamie discovers another woman wearing his ring. She dies, and Molly Cameron (Mrs. Cameron's daughter), the girl he really married, appears and confesses that she married Jamie to get her sister Alice a wedding ring and a marriage certificate to protect her reputation. All ends well, and Jamie remarries Molly.
