Actor Harvey Kavanaugh thinks highly of his talents, but almost no one else does. This exasperates his agent Jake Winkleman. Harvey teaches acting in the house he shares with daughter Maggie and is snide with her beau Stuart Stafford.
Harvey is bragging about his talents but to the wrong people. They inform him of a role on a television children's show not telling Harvey that he is to go on the air as a carrot.
Harvey's refusal to drive is creating problems for daughter Maggie and his students. They try and teach Kavanaugh a lesson but he turns to hitchhiking and gets himself arrested.
Harvey is fuming when he returns home to find his daughter's obnoxious boyfriend Stuart has moved in. Harvey tries to reverse the new living arrangements.
