In the north of communist Albania, in an isolated mountain village, the life of a family will change forever. Patriarchal norms and traditions have transformed the inhabitants. Shpresa, only 17-year-old, suddenly reveals she is pregnant from a secret love affair. Shpresa's mom does her best to stop her daughter in giving birth to this baby. Sokol, Shpresa's father, unaware of his daughter's pregnancy, asks for the help of the village nurse, Theresa, as he thinks Shpresa is severely ill. The girl's mother puts the nurse ahead of an accomplished fact, to abort the child, who would permanently stain the family with shame, even if it risked her daughter's life.

The dream to be enriched as quickly and as short as possible has touched also two elders, Sadri and Hajrie, who live in one of the coastal villages, in a depleted house and in an extreme poverty. The elders have no children and are powerless to deal just like many others, with planting a plant called cannabis Latvia, but they have heard about it. They also have heard that a young man named Bedri, who holds a black bag with lots of money inside, goes from one village to another, seeking to rent land or hire workers. He has very good relations with the police (Sulo), with the shepherds who save the lands planted in the forests (Fitimi) and the speedboat drivers that make the transport of this plant on the other side of the sea, in Italy (Skenderi). The elders come into contact with these characters through dreams. They are very similar to each other, from the stature, the voice and the face, and are almost the same man and will be interpreted by the same actor. It is morning. In the heat of the day, in an empty street, there is a 65-year old man, Gjergj, who is walking alone. He is a former military officer, now a retiree. He lives alone, he has no family or relatives. On his way down the street he runs into a stray dog, the so-called municipality dogs, which follows him but Gjergj casts it away. He looks at the deaths notices on the walls. He carries a notebook, on which he writes the dates and the times of the said events. He then reaches the funeral parlor. He enters the funeral parlor and pays tribute to the departed, while expressing his condolences to the family members, who are surprised for they have never seen him. He dines in the funeral lunch, where he learns about an exhibition that will be inaugurated tomorrow and the cocktail that will be held afterwards. On his way back he enters a used clothes store in search of army boots, but after trying some pairs of shoes, he comes out empty handed. He has not enough money. In the afternoon, he goes to the inauguration of the exhibition at the Arts Gallery, and in the subsequent cocktail party he drinks heavily. He goes back home feeling said, heavily drunk, and devastated. On the way back home, he runs into the dog, and he caresses the animal, but the latter abandons him, leaving him even sadder. It is morning. He tries to fix breakfast, but his cupboard is empty. He looks sadly at the unpaid bills and the already expired date for paying rent, and he makes a decision. He leaves his home with a package. He had decided to sell his best suit but his effort is an unsuccessful one. At the end of the next funeral lunch, he collects food for the dog. He searches for the dog at the latter's habitual site but he does not find it. He leaves the food and goes home. It is dusk. His shadow is drawn on the asphalt. Gjergj walks around town, he reaches the dog's corner and finds the animal there, and he caresses it with love. The last image is of Gjergj's and dog's, who live the site as close and long-term friends.
