I'll preface this review with the fact that I am a lover of all things Lion King. I have seen every film in this franchise and this was not the worst. It was, in my opinion, better than the first CGI Lion King film.
The visuals were beautiful and I liked the storyline thought that it added nicely to the orignal film.
However, I thought the music was severely lacking especially when it's laid against Han's Zimmer's beautiful soundtrack from the first film. It makes the contrast even more distinct and just makes the new music seem worse than it is. Obviously, Tim Rice and Elton John were responsible for the exposition songs in the animation and the lack of their skill is seen here. The songs in Mufasa are forgettable, derivative and boring.
The actor who plays older Taka has one of the worst British accents I've ever heard. I'm not sure why they hired an American actor if they were planning on keeping the British accent from the first film? In places he sounds like he is impersonating a natasia demetriou character.
Hearing Mads Mikklesen sing was not on my bingo card for any year. I think as a voice actor he did an okay job but had nowhere the charisma of Jeremy Irons or other famous Disney baddies. I'm surprised by this as I love his work as an actor. His voice is a little too delicate for the role, in my opinion.
The scenes between Timone and Pumba were painfully unfunny and I think the actors need to be recast or new writers need to be brought in as this attempts at humour were severely lacking.
All in all the film was okay. I'm always happy to watch any new Lion King movie, but it seems the original will never be surpassed.

A group of unlikeable and strangely immature characters living lives of financial privilege. I was disappointed watching this as I was so excited to see more disabled writers and actors showcased on the BBC.
The positive points were the frank expositions of disabled bodily needs and the depiction of a healthy disabled sex life. Both of these things are really important and need to be shown more.
However the show seems to be missing any real depth and the comedy missed the mark for me. All the relationships depicted were pretty toxic and I think they all need a few more sessions in therapy. There was a lack of empathy and understanding from almost every character.
