Excellent casting. This story is beautifully written, the acting is powerful and there's so much heartfelt emotion and intelligence found here. Truly a bittersweet story of love, life, loss, self-respect and family. Anybody 'coming out' should see this. Anyone already out will adore this. Someone who doesn't know much about gays can learn something from this. The dead-pan humor will have you rolling, as will the campy tunes. The feeling of the characters and the storyline is so strong that it's hard to have dry eyes during some of the scenes. A movie like this one really touches home for many people. One of my own favorites of all time, it makes quite an impact, and I recommend everyone to get a copy.
Although I am 35 and couldn't care less about "wholesome shows for the family," I loved this series and I still do. Of course there's life lessons in every episode, but I hope that most adults have enough brains to have learned them already! Yes, this dramatic show has great acting and beautiful stories to hold adult interest as well as entertain and educate children. MY only disappointment was the show's selection to play the Almanzo Wilder character. Laura's husband could have been a handsome, strapping fellow. Instead, he's a goony-looking goof ball who seems like some kind of limp noodle. (OUCH!) lol.... Anyhoo, JUST WATCH THIS SHOW!
I LOVE to laugh and I love dark humor. I have no problem with women who swear, or SNAP from all of the expectations and stresses that usually come with being a woman. In fact, I laughed my A** off during some parts of this film because I can see some women really feeling that way. It's no surprise to me that there are people out there who 'snap' for one reason or another. Hell, I'm surprised my own mother didn't open fire somewhere after putting up with the demands of a husband and four daughters! Kathleen Turner was the perfect selection for her character, Beverly Sutphin. If you liked her in "The War Of the Roses," you'd probably like her in this. I've personally met Ricki Lake three times, and I enjoyed seeing her in "Serial Mom."
