I like Fred. Definitely a legendary talent. He could dance, sing (more talk) and act (On the Beach). However, it was always hard for me to see Fred as a romantic lead. First off, he is over 30 years older then Miss Leslie in this film. And the film has her madly and deeply in love with him. Possible? Maybe, he's a millionaire in the movies. The main Problem is that Fred is so feminine. He just doesn't come across as manly. He is a metro sexual? Maybe. He is just too prissy. Sorry, but that's how I see it. Some women like this sort of man, I guess. Lots of great dance routines and musical numbers. Leslie is beautiful at 22. Fred is well dressed. It's an overall gay old time....maybe?
Cute little film, but really nothing new or even special. Lots of screaming and yelling and arguing, which gave me a headache. The movie is very predictable and it's very easy to figure out the ending. Ron Howard, as Ronny Howard almost stole the film, but most of the time he overplays his part. Glen Ford looks good and gives a decent performance and bit of an off beat role for him. Stella Stevens and Jerry Van Dyke are the show stealers. They work well together and the bowling scene is somewhat funny. The rest of the film is basically a soap opera with a few chuckles and laughs. Overall it is pretty cornball.
This movie gave me a headache. A really big headache. Screaming and yelling and yelling and screaming; that's basically the whole film..Not funny at all. No chemistry between Al and his leading ladies, I mean absolutely none. Alan King was totally wasted here. All he does is shout, yell, scream and scream yell and shout. Not funny at all. The kids are obnoxious as can be and Mr Pacino has little to no.chemistry with them either..Even Tuesday Weld is screaming most of the movie. Hollywood for many many years seems to think that hysterics is funny, it's not. But, maybe some people think it is. Dismal disappointment film.
