Feel free to watch my ratings and reviews, I have wateched over 5000 movies and rated at least 2000 here, I know what I am talking about. This movie is massively underrated and perhaps because most people expecting it to be a disaster/catastrophe movie, which it is but in essence its a deep Sci-fi movie. One other reason is that many people must have missed the subtle cues like number on the T-shirt and what it means. For those who have even rudimentary understanding of programing and AI would love it on another level.
All in all its a good movie, for me I'd say its a great movie. Yes kid was annoying but that is how kids are. I totally enjoyed the entirety of the movie. May be because it resonated with me on several levels.
Hope for survival of the human race, Mother-son relationship, Disaster Survival, Deep Sci-fi, Drama all in one.
Its very well directed and acting is satisfactory as well.
I'd give it a 9 out of 10.

I am going bit deep here in technicalities, but this has to be said, this movie was made in 1988 but it feels so 2025 in terms on cinematography, especially camera angles, one example is when the character of Raghubir Yadav sees Manju, there was a separate camera to depict his POV to delineate how he is perceiving reality as a drug addict going through serve withdrawal. Speaking of Raghubir Yadav, what an amazing actor he is, loved his work here, one thing I'd like to say that this is one of the greatest talent ensemble I have ever witnessed in a Movie. Nana Patekar, Raghubir Yadav, Irfan Khan amongst some other super talented actors.
Now let me come to the Protagonist Shafiq Syed, what am amazing job the kid has done, I realise that he must be in his fourties now but let me praise that kid in 1988. What an amazing talant. His work felt so real and natural.
Director Mira Niar has done a phenomenal job interms of the flow and visual narration. I am super impressed with the camera work so I applaud and take my hat off to the Cinematographer. Editing is also on point, there isnt a wasted scene in the film.
Storyline is also very gripping, Unfortunately this was and still is the reality of many underprivileged children.
All in all it was a great viewing experience. 10/10 from me.

I saw some reviews here and I am glad I am not the only one who felt there is not story and the movie wasn't as good as some people would make you believe. I thought it was based on some real life character only to find out that the Legendary Architect László Tóth never existed, if you google him only lászló tóth you will find was a vandal. Coming back to the movie, acting is superb so was the direction but it was the script that ruined it for me, the movie built and built only to devolve into nothingness, it has log of potential but it just didn't deliver, with all this being said I dont regret watching it, Adrien Brody was fantastic as always and the movie did have some moments, Guy Pierce as amazing as well, I feel he too should have gotten nominated for the academy award for supporting actor.
All in all the movie stated great but could not finish strong. I will give it a 7 out of 10.
