  • The Office is Possibly Better than Black Bears

I'd lost faith in network television, having retreated into the dark, scary world of cable. And then one day, a friend of mine introduced me to The Office, and I was hooked.

Michael stumbles and bumbles while leading his Dunder Mifflin brood to victory in the super-competitive paper business in Scranton. Helped by his assistant regional manager Dwight and a bevy of salespeople, accountants, office support, and hated HR reps, Michael puts into practice his unique management ideas in hopes of building a "friends first" strategy of management.

From racial tolerance to sexual harassment to inter-office relationships, The Office touches on many current hot-button issues in a comedic way, opening up dialogues and discussions that might otherwise be left awkwardly in the dark. In its own way, The Office is the voice of a sarcastic, directionless generation of drifting business majors with no clear idea of what they want to DO with their lives.

  • Ready to Chuckle.. Sometimes?

Absurd? Yes. Obscene? Yes. Funny? .. Kinda.

Family Guy is a cult show.. Or, it's steadily becoming that way, because let's face it, the last TV offerings of the show have NOT been up to par with the "old skool" FG episodes. Good, yes, but just not the Family Guy we all fought so hard to raise from the dead.

That being said, Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story! was what I've come to expect from Family Guy: funny moments alternating with hilarious moments (though they're pretty few and far between), periods of dead air, and lots of filler.

This is what happens when the corporate machine begins cranking out episodes instead of it being an artistic creation. Liken the new episodes to the old episodes by likening a reproduction of a Monet painting to the original. Loses something in translation.

The movie focuses on Stewie and his journey of self-discovery. At some times, it borders on just unbelievable, but always seems to redeem itself and justify the absurd turn the story just took.

All our old favorites return.. The Greased Up Deaf Guy, the Mayor, Kool-Aid man, the nudists... It's a nice walk down memory lane for the devotees of Family Guy.

Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story! is still worth a view for die-hard fans of the series and all the "old-timers" who remember the good old days on Fox. And don't let the dead air "grind your gears."

  • I've Seen Scarier Hillbillies

Sitting down to watch this movie, I don't know why I expected this recent addition to the flock of bad horror movies would be any better. I shouldn't have. Like so many movies of today, the IDEA behind this movie was excellent: six people getting stranded in the woods (notice how in so many horror movies, it's an equal ratio of guys to girls?) by psychotic, mutated, cannibal hillbillies who chase them while they attempt to get back to civilization.

Eliza Dushku did a good job (though I may be biased), but other than that, I actually found myself cheering for the hillbillies to win.

Ahh.. the hillbillies. Growing up in South Texas must have desensitized me to them or something, but none of them frightened me in the slightest. I've had scarier hillbillies for NEIGHBORS. The little one reminded me of a Capuchin monkey- I was waiting for him to being throwing feces or something at them.

And WHAT about that guy going back to rescue Eliza in the cabin? I know that it was the heroic and noble thing to do, but I cannot see any real life situation in which a stranger someone had just met would risk death when they had escaped by going back to "Evil Headquarters."

All in all, it was yet another movie to add to the "Gross Out Factor" list: a good movie to watch for some gore and some laughs, but nothing with any real substance.
