Rewatching the Mission Impossibles again and I'd forgotten how good this one is. Tom Cruise is back in his the 4th installment, and omg he is RUNNING!! Surprise Surprise!!
And Oh my Lord does Tom get some amazing looking women to costar with him or what? Gorgeous! Agent Carter.
Man the tech involved. And the stunts. And the fights! And Jeremy Renner! And omg the replacement Scotty from Star Trek! (Man did he score by landing roles in multiple franchises or what???) It all makes for a really good forth installment of one of the Best Franchises of all time, Mission Impossible! (And a fine salute to the original concept TV series Mission Impossible from long ago).
This one gets an 8 out of 10.

Well I finally got to see this Pilot episode and I was not impressed. I mean I like Anson Mount, so had no problem with him as Pike. Altho the crew of the Enterprise seems more like Kirk's Enterprise than Pikes. I mean you've already got Spock, who I didnt care for the casting of this one. You've got Uhura. You've got Nurse Chapel. That's all Kirk's crew.
Then, in Episode 1 you've already got them involved in time travel. Again. Which I can't stand. Too much time travel crud has been thrown into Star Treks over the years and it's old old old.
Also in episode 1, what's the first thing they decide to do? Break the Prime Directive. Oh great. Even if you look at it as for the 'greater good', it's still breaking their #1 rule. General Order #1. Pike should have been relieved of command in episode 1. I know I certainly would have.
So not a good start. Altho when they did show the Enterprise it looked actually like a ship that could hold 400 crew from the outside, which the original Star Trek never did. I really disliked this start. And I give it a 3/10.

So a prospector finds gold in his mined out town, and someone kills him and sets up a visiting black man to look like the killer.
There's a minor twist in that story line but its superficial at best. The main thing is that the story is predictable and overdone.
I guess one thing about it is it is sort of cool to see Thomas Jane in a western.
But other than that, there are two chase sequences where the pursuers magically catch up to the pursued suddenly after being way behind 1 second earlier. That kind of nonsense is movie killing to me.
And most of the stars who were shot, don't seem to be wounded much at all at the end. And that part of it was stupid also.
3/10.
