  • Great movie for little kids

I saw this movie when I was very young and I loved it. It had a perfect fairy-tale ending and totally followed the formula for Disney movies in a great way. It really got it's message across with catchy tunes and fun characters.

On the down side, while it had a great message, it didn't stay true to what Hans Christian Andersen wrote. I hadn't read Andersen's version until very recently, but I loved it. I thought it had a much better and far more realistic message than the Disney movie. Andersen said that if you're a good person, while you may not get your reward in life, being good is it's own reward. Disney, on the other hand, said that if you risk everything for the one you love, things will work out in the end. While that's a nice message for little kids that is very unrealistic. Good people are hurt all the time.

I've heard people say that if girls grow up watching this, they will learn that big breasts, a small waist, and having a man by your side are what's important in life. This movie was made the year I was born, so naturally, I grew up on it. I don't hold myself to unrealistic standards or feel like I must have a man to go on. So, while I don't know about all the other little girls out there, but Disney didn't corrupt me.

  • I would expect more from Kevin Smith

Let me start by saying that I really loved this movie and found myself laughing uncontrollably more than once. But I think I would have enjoyed it much much more if I had seen it before any of the other Kevin Smith movies. Clerks and Mallrats were so much better in terms of intellectual humor. I didn't expect much from this movie, but I feel like a little more could have gone into it. I thought that Smith went for way too many cheap laughs. Maybe this is what happens when independent films go mainstream. Dante's repeated "I wasn't supposed to be here today." Got old very fast. It looked as though all the repeat characters except Brodie (who I would have liked to have seen more of) became caricatures of their former selves. Dante and Randall really p***ed me off in this one. There were many points such as the "We're walking talking bad-girl cliches" bit were pure crap. But I loved the "Clit master" bit. It's sad though, that Jay who even hinted once that he may be a bit on the gay side, would become so homophobic. It also seems as though Jay is always working against Silent Bob rather than working with him. And the references to how much this movie sucked didn't help. All in all, it's best enjoyed by someone who hasn't seen the others and likes cheap gay jokes. Still, I think it was better than most of the Hollywood trash out there.

  • pretty bad take on an over-used plot

Just by watching the previews, one can tell exactly what is going to happen all the way through this movie. It really sucks bad. How can someone use the same plot as a classic (Pretty Woman) and come up with such a sucky result? I mean sure, Laney is not a hooker and there was not bet or prom queen in Pretty Woman, but it really is the same thing. I also noticed that "Laney" is way prettier than any of the other girls considered to be made-over by "Zach". I could even make this girl look good. Just throw on a dress and a little lipstick and she's not looking too bad.

If you want to see a PG-13 teen movie, see 10 Things I Hate About you. It is a lot better than She's All That. Or, if you just want to see a really good movie, rent Billy Madison or American Pie.
