I haven't rated this because for once.... Completely stumped. Olivia Newton John is the dangerously really nice... Gene Kelly is hanging in there by the length of his tap shoes.
Script is as if written by a ten year old.......guess that's why 50 year old friends remember so fondly, from when they were ten.
Story and character development are worn out pants. The songs keep on rolling and the dancing and effects are great. ELO fantastic songs are fantastic. One wonders if somebody was smoking too much grass in the 80s ?
The song 'Whenever you're away from me' is an excellent and underrated song. Some of the locations are dazzling and Olivia sings like an angel. ' Hey Zeus can you hear me ? '

Seen the first three films, what would you think?
If you remember Bridget singing and bonding along with 50 Thai females.. . It is difficult to imagine a fourth film with the already vulnerable B struggling with the death of a beloved. Grieving is a minefield for most film directors. This film takes the story to a different level. Helen Fielding's story and book is from the heart. It's true and could not have been trivialised. Combined with the new director and lesser known Michael Morris we see double Oscar winner Renee Zellweger really nailing it. Vulnerable and now also expressing a multitude of emotions coping with the Battle of Grieving. The casting is superb - Leo Woodhall as Roxster is looking for a Time Machine, teacher Chiwetel Ejiofor can only assess time in scientific terms without his Kinky Boots. Uncle Daniel is still 'hands on' after 24 years of time. Uncle Hugh Grant is a brilliant sexual time warp but still loveable ! From post yuppie hedonism to the trials of single motherhood everybody has to change. Emma Thompson is still magnificent as Dr Rawlings still not giving any lip service !
The music is sensitive - a mixture of gentle piano from American pianist composer Dustin O'Halloran and some great artistes like Raye too.
It is a beautiful soulful film, however it may not have been made without the success of the first three ? For many bright young things I suspect they may show that they wish they had not watched it. Life is unpredictable and change inevitable.
