This movie is well-written with a very good cast. The actor that gives "heart" to the film is Chandler Massey in his role as a recently emancipated
young man with a developmental disabilty. The viewer experiences his character's joy in proudly telling his doctor (Aime Teagarden) that he has finished all of his Independent living classes and now has his own apartment. We see him show his mother he can tie his own tie, and we also his childlike love for his plastic dinosaurs and live turtle he carefully handles and feeds. Massey's acting is finely crafted to show us the complexity, intelligence, and character of this young man, and his love of his newly independent future. I fell in love with Massey's character. He is the Heart of this Matter.
Well-written, authentic dialogue, and clever storyline. Cinematography, editing, and sound quality framed the characters and location -the close-ups are beautifully done. Will, played by Jon Stoddard, with his son Dash, played by Holden Smith, are every woman's dream team. So sweet, funny, and real together. Who wouldn't love them? I would also love to have Nicole Acosta (Chloe) as my best friend. The writer, Hayley November, created lovable characters. Lastly, don't be scared off by the two lead characters' rather terse and tense opening scenes. The story evolves, emotions are laid on the table, and everyone learns to dance by the end.
How can you not love Mr. Rhames! Smart casting choice.
As for the handsome, maturing lead, Mr. Cruise never ever disappoints his audience. There is never a misstep in the execution of his stunts, interpretation of the character, nuanced gestures, emotions, or believability. I fall right in to the improbable story.
Gave the film a 9/10 because of the music score. It seemed discombobulated and lacked the compositional imagination equal to the futuristic story, editing, and excellent production. Otherwise, congratulations to every one involved in this exciting film-especially the magicians who directed the very successful stunts.
