Tthis is one underrated gem from Mahesh Bhatt. No Swiss Alps and no designer wear as seen in recent Hindi cinema, just pure classic Mahesh Bhatt entertainment getting you to the edge of the seat. If you want to see the "real" Anil Kapoor, watch this movie. As Anil Kapoor says, this movie got him his best reviews. Meenakshi is also very good and Govinda does well in a different role. Anupam Kher and Paresh Rawal, as in all Mahesh Bhatt movies, are ACE. Both have been given some of the best lines in the movie and boy do they deliver. Their confrontation scenes make you realise their importance in a Mahesh Bhatt movie. The story and the dialogues from Suraj-Sanim are applause worthy.
David Dhawan has made many many enjoyable comedies in the 90's, but this movie along with Aankhen are his very best! There is nothing novel to the story about 2 guys in love with the same girl(Juhi Chawla in this case) and how they try to outdo each other. What makes the movie so enjoyable is the treatment and the terrific sense of comedy by both Govinda and Anil Kapoor. Johny Lever is also very good and he gets a lot of scope to perform and does well! Some of the most hilarious moments in the movie are when Satish Kaushik comes in as "Pappu Pager" and boy, that is what people talk about after coming out of the cinema hall! His dialogues had become quite a rage amongst the youth back when the movie release in 1997.
Govinda shows what he can do when it comes to comedy and his "baby steps, baby steps" is just superb! Anil Kapoor matches Govinda step to step in this David Dhawan comedy, which not many other actors could do it easily in a David Dhawan flick. Juhi Chawla is good at comedy as always and looks great!
I wonder how many times I have seen this movie.

One of the many 'career' defining roles from Anil Kapoor and one of the best in hindi cinema in general... The movie was supposed to be directed by Raj Kapoor to start with, but the moment never came as the Raj Kapoorji passed away... But the great K Viswanath(the one who directed the original Swathi Muthayam) took over and recreated the magic and delivered a classic! The character of EEshwar was right out of Raj Kapoor's books and as originally perceived by him. Those who have seen the movie would notice the way K Viswanath pays his tribute to Raj Kapoor at the start of the movie just as the R K Films have it. Anil Kapoor once again reminds of Raj Kapoor in this character portrayal, just as he did it with Woh Saat Din...At the same time, the displayed the part of a mentally challenged person as good as anybody has done it before and something which was associated with Sanjeev Kumar(Khilona). The movie is full of classic moments, the best one being the climax where the "tulsi" is what Anil wants to take with him! Great performance by Vijayashanti and she deserves an applause too. good support by Saeed Jaffrey, Gulshan Grover and others.
