Apparently this show has some connection to "ER" by the other reviews but I've never seen it so my review is based only on the show itself which I haven't found very enjoyable. It's an extremely cookie-cutter procedural medical drama where all of the characters speedily drop medical jargon as fast as the tongue is able interpolated with plenty of smug snarkiness as the only source of levity.

I'll say in its favor that the cinematography is excellent but otherwise it doesn't stand out in anyway. If you like this genre you'll probably like this show as it's a mashup of every other medical drama you've ever seen. Why HBO so heavily promoted it is a mystery as every major network has produced their own version of this five times over the past three decades.

So far I'm halfway through the series with the last two episodes pending to appear in the future. What I can say so far is that while the production values are high, the underlying true story is poorly told.

Sterling's egomaniacal failure as a franchise owner would have made for a compelling story. But so far it's shaping up to be a banal referendum on his moral character and his tattletale sugar-baby lady of the night being positioned as an anti-hero by being spiteful.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm afraid that this Hulu special will be of the Netflix ilk of progressive grandstanding as if we haven't been beaten over the head with the social sensitivity agenda a million times over. It's lazy and I'm hoping that the concluding episodes of the series focuses on the personal story that us sports fans might have overlooked instead of another trite sermon about how people should be loving people or whatever.

The official description from the studio suggests that this documentary might actually delve into the controversy of the eponymous "loudmouth". This would make sense as Sharpton is infamously disdained for his self-serving antics and reputation for bigoted remarks and inciting violence.

Instead, the documentary is just a lot of Sharpton praising himself as he loves to do. When they cover incidents where Sharpton lied about events, they don't mention the true facts - they just go along with his fiction then as an alternative history today.

I get that most docs take an angle and I figured that this one was obviously going to lean in Sharpton's direction. But this doc is a love letter to the man so why did they name it "loudmouth" and write a description that suggests it might at least pretend to offer some critical thought? If you're one of the handful of people in the country who is actually a fan of this huckster, than you might like this film. For the rest of us, it'll leave you feeling a bit nauseous.
