The family gather for Ian's funeral, questions begin to surface, and the real Amanda is asked to attend the hotel to meet her father.
I'm still struggling to deal with Helen's horrendous wig and that painful accent, but for the sake of the finale I was willing to put those aside. I went in with low hopes.
The first ten minutes of this episode were a marked improvement on what's gone before. The funeral and the immediate fallout were actually pretty effective, and for a brief moment it felt like the series might finally be finding its feet. The rest of the episode, despite a frankly ridiculous plot, was oddly rather enjoyable. I still can't quite get my head around how an entire family can be quite so staggeringly stupid, but this is television after all.
I liked the presence of Dannii Minogue, even if she wasn't given a great deal to do, her appearance is like a British summer, fleeting.
I've been extremely critical of the series overall, but this final episode was undeniably an improvement. It did make me wonder whether I was simply grumpy when watching episodes one to three - though I suspect not.
One thing my opinion didn't change on was the acting. Kym Marsh is unfortunately very wooden here, while Jane Harber is the clear standout and a cut above the rest.
6/10.
