Ok I'm new to Reel Short and yes there movies are repetitive and addictive and even predictable but this one ... WOWZERS I've never been so invested.
It made me so mad at Declan and had me rooting for Eva. It had twists that I didn't see coming. By far THE BEST Reel Short show I've seen. 10/10.
This one has it all drama, suspense, and a little romance. The shocking part was the ending which whilst watching I was like "I hope it doesn't end up like that". Well it did and when it happened I found myself happy about it.
There were a few scenes that were like "as if" but you move on, accept it and continue. This one is by far my favourite so far.

Even though I've seen the original version of this story, I found myself completely drawn into this adaptation. There's something refreshing about how it takes a familiar narrative and gives it a unique spin without losing the emotional core that made the original compelling. The new twists aren't forced or overly dramatic-they feel organic, and they add meaningful layers that enhance the storytelling rather than distract from it.
One of the strongest aspects of this version is the chemistry between Ryan and Anna. From the very first scene they share, you can feel a deep connection between the characters. It's not just about romantic tension-they genuinely come across as two people who understand and care for each other. That level of authenticity is hard to fake, and it's a big part of what makes the story so believable. You find yourself rooting for them, not just because the plot tells you to, but because the performances make you care.
The emotional beats of the film hit even harder thanks to the performances. Anna's character, in particular, goes through a lot, and I was genuinely moved by how she portrayed those struggles with subtlety and grace. One detail that really stood out to me was that she learned sign language for the role. That kind of commitment goes a long way in making the story feel real. It's not just about representation-it shows a respect for the character and the audience, especially those in the Deaf and hard of hearing communities. That extra effort added depth and made the relationship between the characters even more touching.
Ryan also gives a strong performance, managing to convey both vulnerability and strength in equal measure. There are moments where his expressions say more than any line of dialogue could. He brings a quiet intensity to the role that grounds the film emotionally. Together, Ryan and Anna make a compelling pair. Their interactions feel lived-in, like they have a shared history that we're only getting glimpses of-but that's enough to make us believe in it.
I've seen this story told in various forms over the years, but what sets this version apart is how it balances familiarity with innovation. It respects the source material while still daring to take creative risks. It doesn't rely on flashy effects or melodrama; instead, it focuses on character development and emotional truth. That's why it works so well.
Another thing that really stood out to me was the sheer reach this film has achieved. With over 60 million views, it's clear that the story resonates with a massive audience. That kind of viewership is rare, especially for a short film, and it speaks to the universal themes and strong execution. It's heartening to see quality storytelling being recognized and appreciated on such a large scale.
I genuinely hope this isn't the last time we see Ryan and Anna on screen together. Their dynamic works so well that I'd love to see them collaborate again, even in a completely different story or genre. They have the kind of chemistry that could easily carry another short film-or even a longer project. Whether it's romance, drama, or something else entirely, I'd be excited to see what they do next.
In the end, this version of the story stands on its own while also honoring what came before it. It's thoughtful, emotional, and beautifully acted. I'm glad I watched it-and clearly, I'm not alone.
