This film was so well made. I felt kind of speechless after viewing this film. Not only was it a documentary that allowed for a glimpse into the events of May 20th 2013 but it was also very artistic and creative. It was captivating the entire length of the film. All the stories of finding hope in the midst of suffering are brought together in a beautiful thread throughout the film. The music score is amazing. The music was beautiful, intense at parts and uplifting. Peoples' stories are genuine and while difficult in a lot of ways, they are also inspiring and hopeful. You will laugh and cry with the people interviewed. Overall you will walk away an amazing perspective of how to find hope in suffering. This is a must see!
My husband and I saw this movie tonight together. Take tissues! It's a very sincere and heart touching documentary! We loved how everyone pulled together and showed so much love and supported for each other. We have a son that attends OU, we were so very thankful and blessed that he was safe through the storms. We had traveled to the Norman/Moore area shortly after the tornado to visit him and we're shocked by the devastation. We've both lived in Oklahoma all our lives and have never seen the horrible results of a tornado. It certainly makes you realize they are much, much more serious than we can even imagine. This is a wonderful documentary and I hope everyone gets a chance to see it. It's a great reminder that God is always there, watching over us and helping us through each day.
If you're looking for answers to the hard questions in life, academics are not the people you want to take advice from. You want to hear from people who have had to face the Hard Questions for themselves and come out on the other side.
This movie is about real people in a real tragedy dealing with actual events. This is not a speculative pie-in-the-sky look at circumstances. This is a candid look at the reality of finding God in the midst of tragedy. On the anniversary of 9/11, I sometimes wonder, "If God did that miraculous thing for the person we're hearing from now, why didn't he do that for 3,003 others?"
This movie does not provide an answer to that question. It offers a way to look at how God meets everyone's need, not always the same way, but in the end, I bless God for the mercies he does show rather than the ones he doesn't show. And I think that's where God is. He is with us in the horror and the fear and the dark cellar waiting to see what happens after it all blows over and he's with us when we come out. And after.
Watch this movie with a box of Kleenex handy. You'll need it.

After texting my daughter-in-law at 2:20 PM on May 20, 2013, to be watchful as storm heading their way, then watching in horror the classic cone shape morph into a monster column heading straight for their area, I fell to my knees asking God to protect our family from this deadly tornado. Within minutes, everything changed. No communication, no knowledge of who was OK. It was the most frightening day of my life. We are thankful to have been spared the heartache of lives lost. And, even though much of their "normal" has changed, there have been many days of hope and promise of better times ahead through our son's family's process of recovery.
The creators of this film have captured the essence of God's mercy, grace and love in our lives through trauma and tragedy. You will be touched by these stories, and hopefully find peace and purpose in your own daily walk in this Gift of Life. We were completely blown away (forgive the pun) by many, many, many acts of kindness and compassion from family, friends, and even unknowns after the storm--another testament as to Where Was God. . . He is in and working through each of us! Well done, producers and cast!!

Where was God? When tragedy strikes and the unimaginable becomes reality our humanity cries out... On May 20th in Moore, Oklahoma and everyday of the year, life happens, people are hurt, lives are changed, loved ones die. I know God was with our family that scary May afternoon, holding us down while everything around us went up. He held us together and has kept us from falling apart. He has filled up our lack and supplied us in every possible way. We saw the 'Where was God?' movie tonight and cried and rejoiced along with these ones willing to share their stories of Hope. They opened their hearts, peeling back the different layers of their lives, willing to revisit their pain to show us the beauty of restoration. God was always there, in the midst of every need, just as He still is. He doesn't just save us once and for all... He saves us over and over again. This movie was beautiful and I believe anyone who sees it will walk away feeling encouraged, hopeful and in awe of an amazing loving God!
