Anecdotes
Ichabod references Thomas Jefferson taking a scalpel to his Bible. Jefferson actually did this with several Bibles, constructing the The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth, or the Jefferson Bible, that contained the teachings of Jesus while removing references to miracles and most elements of the supernatural.

Gaffes
Ichabod bemoans that his mobile phone company keeps sending him messages to add updates for a fee, saying that this is an abuse of capitalism. The word capitalism did not exist during Ichabod's time, not coming into common use until the middle of the 1800s during the Industrial Revolution.
