I've never written a movie review before, but I came across There's a Stranger in My Home after seeing a trailer on TikTok that made it look intense and intriguing. It hooked me just enough to spend $6 to rent it, but unfortunately, that's where the excitement ended.
The acting was pretty bad, the story was super predictable, and the whole thing just felt cringey. It had the vibe of a cheesy made-for-TV movie, but not in a fun or entertaining way. I kept waiting for it to get better, but it never really did.
If you're thinking about watching it, I'd say skip it-unless you're in the mood to laugh at something unintentionally funny.

The Stranger in My House started off strong and had a lot of potential. The premise was intriguing, and the setup kept me interested. However, as the film progressed, the story began to rely heavily on unrealistic coincidences. By the final third, it shifted from suspenseful drama into pure fiction that felt disconnected from the grounded tone it started with. It seemed like the director lost their narrative direction, and unfortunately, the ending fell flat.
By the end, I wasn't even sure if I was the stranger in my own house, because nothing made sense anymore. It felt like the writer threw the last 30 pages of the script into a blender, hit "purée," and filmed whatever came out. Somewhere in the middle, I think even the characters forgot what they were doing.
If you're into mystery, suspense, and absolutely no logical payoff, this might be your thing. Otherwise, you might want to stay out of this house... or at least keep the lights on and your expectations low.

I don't understand people on the internet. Just being mean for no reason. Who is giving this movie a one star review? And saying it looks cheap. I don't know about you, but that house doesn't look cheap to me. I think the actors did a great job in this movie. And it doesn't take itself too seriously. I thought the ending was visceral and fun and I liked the characters. Where are we when people hide behind their computers and and rip good movies apart just to be jerks. I'd watch this movie again and it's better than a lot of stuff I've seen recently. I think all the actors did a really good job and the mean girl and her Mom are pretty hilarious.
This is a sneaky good watch...sure it feels like a long version of an old school usa show (psych monk white collar etc.) but this is a nice homage to what parental fear is like...and how we define family...don't sleep on this flick...really worth your time...
i'll fill this time with my usual nonsense...
we have set the bar to high for movies these days...

really...it's not about the actors anymore... it's about the writing... sure there are places in this movie where the acting might have been...DIFFERENT...with a higher paid actor...but i wouldn't have believed them more...and i truly doubt it would have been better... this movie was well cast...was thoughtfully and well written...and extremely well acted...in fact i'll give it a rewatch in a week or two... because...it got to a lot of me... parent...check horror...check creepy...check i'm a father and if anybody ever put my kid in danger i would..............check check check (imdb doesn't allow emojis...but will all you to review the movie...go figure) so yeah... good movie...do yourself a favor and give it a view.

I knew it would be Lifetime levels of cringe, but because it has a couple of my favorites in it, I didn't expect it to be quite THIS bad. 🤣
Really, really bad acting by most of the cast, cheesy, knew exactly what was going to happen about ten minutes into the movie, lacking transitions and it would just pop up with a new scene/storyline out of nowhere, and really weird to follow with way too many coincidences or weird insertions for "drama" that were really stupid, my husband and I laughed through most of it. I love Chris Carmack and Sophia Bush was a favorite from One Tree Hill, but not even they were enough to kind of save it.
