The concept is the only interesting thing here.

I can't believe anyone allowed this "story" to be birthed. I am an avid fan of film and television, and I can enjoy all manner of entertainment, depending on my mood. This is not entertainment. This is not entertaining. This is not art. This is an insult to the industry and the art form of storytelling and filmmaking itself. I have never watched a film and actually been angry when I finished. I feel as though my life has been wasted. Someone spent time, talent and money in this and they could have done ANYTHING else. Film should either inspire, entertain, educate or do SOMETHING. There is nothing good about this. If you want to wind down and enjoy a really good piece of entertainment.. stay as far away from this as possible. I can appreciate every person who has a passion to WORK in the industry who was a part of this trash. That said, I would remove your name from this.

Reminds of a 2006 bootleg recording from the theatres

First of all, the storyline isn't the problem. But everything else is. I almost had to turn it off in the second scene of the film it was so bad.

Let's do audio first. The audio goes in and out, so you definitely need subtitles. They play the background music louder than the actors' voices. And the background music rarely matches the mood of the scene. On top of that you can literally hear the mic (picture something tapping a microphone) more than once.

Okay visual next. Y'all...it's almost comical how bad the visual is. I almost got mad. The cameraman just panned over to whatever he wants to look at at the time. One person is speaking, but you don't know who it is because they aren't on camera at the time. Weird right? Also, when someone is talking the cameraman decides it's best to cover half the screen with the back of another actor's head. Very 2006 bootleg video out the back of a truck.

Acting is subpar at best. And the editing doesn't help. There are two times in the courtroom scene where the same line was repeated twice, as if the editor just skimmed it instead of watching. Another scene in the bathroom where the actress messed up her line and then fixed it. 'It would be dishonest of me to say he's guilty. I mean it would be dishonest of me to say he's not guilty.' And they just left it in there.

Overall it just gives lazy, low budget, and rushed. If you don't have the funds for a great quality movie, at least have the passion and care to edit it into something.

The only reason I gave this two stars is because the storyline is actually pretty good. If done correctly, this could have sold out in movie theatres. But actually having to watch it is painful.

    Good production, but lousy script...

Another movie from Maverick Entertainment, seems I have fallen into a swarm of them recently. Some of them have been fair, whereas the majority have been questionable affairs. So when I saw that ethereal horse galloping across the screen, I have to admit that my expectations to the movie weren't exactly high. Yet, I still opted to watch the movie on account of it being a movie I had never seen, nor heard about, and also on a hope of it being one of those rare good movies from Maverick Entertainment.

Writers Mark K. Buddington and Walter Thomas Fredericks Jr. XXXX put together a script and storyline that didn't exactly catch my interest. I have to say that watching the majority of a movie where it was nothing but a group of women sitting in a room debating a case as jurors, well that hardly constituted proper entertainment for me. It was a character-driven narrative, no doubt about that, but the movie was just lacking contents to keep it interesting. Watching women sitting around a table arguing about a case just grew very stale, very quickly.

I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, which actually was something that spoke in favor of "Women of the Jury", as I enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen. The acting performances in the movie were fair.

The production value in "Women of the Jury" certainly is a step up from the average movie from Maverick Entertainment, so that counted for something, of course.

My rating of director Mark K. Buddington's 2023 movie "Women of the Jury" lands on a two out of ten stars, and it was not because it was a low production movie, but solely because the storyline was about as uninteresting as it could possibly be.

So much promise, so little substance

I was so disappointed. The concept of this story has so much potential. The writing was horrible and the audio track was even worse. The "suspenseful" music editing made it next to impossible to hear the mediocre dialogue at many points. The court scene at the beginning was absolutely horrible and the acting in it even worse. The tired trope of the angry black woman was beaten to death and let's not forget the white woman who saves the day. I'm shocked that all those actresses of color tolerated this. A better writer-director-editing team could do it justice. Many of the actresseses have skills. Not all. This is an hour and a half of my life I will never get back.

    Missed opportunities.

It seems obvious the most fascinating story imaginable from the very lean synopsis supplied for the production wasn't the generic story of one believer faith trust love blah blah blah sheep culture.

What would have actually been interesting would have been the legal strategy behind how jury selection or local demographics even lead to some crazy world where only women were selected and on top of that the demographics there too are deeply unrealistic.

Still it would have been much more entertaining to see an attempt at reasoned justification for how the jury pool wound up even close to what ends up being represented. Then somehow in the negotiation both partys of the case found women favorable over men for their desired outcome.

And so on and so on... before you realize just how awful the basic premise is behind this since it in no way comments on or appreciates the lubricious irregularity.

Even the jury itself becomes preposterous as it appears much more like a ciricle of celebrity friends with minimal dissimilarities than not to one another.

I suppose there must be audiences out there content with this sort of cultural content quality because it sure gets made often enough.

Still the quality is below the BET standard which is saying something. Seems like some weird crowd funded thing or all the appearing minor celerbrities passed the hat to fund this overpriced nonsense if it even cost a million to produce.

Feels more like people had a pickup game of record the police intervention on their phones and just kind of got distracted wandered off and turned some bad larping into an impromptu "movie".

Its about as realistically representative of a court of law as biased media is the whole truth and nothing but.
