Its a like it or not kind of biography movie with the most awkward editing. It got me dizzy by hopping from scenes to scenes with poor interscene transitions. Despite the flaws , i really enjoyed the movie taking me back to the 80s and 90s with great display of emotional acting by Acha. I love the way some of the political figures impersonation by the actors. The movie ended abruptly letting viewers wonder if there is more to come. This may not be a great biography movie but it may just perfectly filled in the gaps of Malaysian untold political history. Reformasi! - a phrase long forgotten or the beginning of a new dawn ?
It looks like a fictional story about Anwar Ibrahim and director not being fair to show historical value at that the time. More consultantion required by conducting more interviews with ex politicians and people. I feel it doesnt fair to rate this movie 7/10 because i value the facts and truth, and im not fan boy to Anwar Ibrahim. I just an observant to historical value at that time. I feel, this movie is not good enough maybe someone must rewrite again and remake this film. Sorry guys, i rather telling the truth then try to be 100% fan boy to Anwar Ibrahim. Please don't bash me for giving lower rating.
The storyline is about Anwar's turbulent political career from 1993, when he was appointed to be the finance minister, to his termination in 1998.
The pace is slow, with poor and disorganized sequential sub-plots.
I found that the director is NOT GOOD at storytelling! A political movie could be made in a more impactful manner with more emotional moments. However, you don't see any of these! It remains flat all the way from the beginning to the end.
Besides, the transition from one scene to another is very WEAK! It goes on too abruptly without properly addressing one scene to another. Initially, I thought that some scenes might be censored by the Film Censorship Board of Malaysia. However, as time passes, I see almost every scene-transition happen in this manner. This is rather unacceptable!
As such, audiences may find the sub-plots scattered everywhere and look messy, in fact.
Also, the sub-plots lack depth. Everything is touch-n-go, as a result, audiences could hardly see the seriousness of the corruption and how it may threaten the country and people, why there is a need to take it seriously!?
It's more like an essay written by a student who has a lot of points but does not know how to structure them nicely in the right sequence with proper depth. One could hardly connect one point to another to get a good overview of the overall problems and outcomes, although one knows there is a problem somewhere.
I gave 3.0 out of 10. It's flat and boring, without much impactful emotion! As said, the director doesn't know how to use the right movie-language to connect and engage with audiences, leaving us with nothing after the movie.

I think Anwar: The Untold Story will be on the top 10 list of the worst Malaysian movies in 2023. I think the Indonesian producers and directors did not do their research very deeply about this political story. It looks Very weak in the script, storyline, and plot.
This movie has become even worse because the majority of the actors are Indonesian and only few are malaysian actor. After the first ten minutes, I couldn't stop laughing. All of them, from the minister to the police to Anwar's family's and supporters, are try hard to speak Bahasa Melayu, but the slang sounds Jawa. This is really hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣
This movie is not worthy of showing in cinemas; probably they should post it on TV or YouTube.
For me Anwar: The Untold Story , rating 1.5 out of 5. 👎👎👎

This movie is about a politician trying to fight corruptions which already becoming so worst in the gov. Admin. System. He did what he could as Deputy Prime Minister. He rejected money & land offered to him and his father. He reminded his family members not to take any government contracts. He also tried to amend anti-corruption act.
Back in the year 1990s , there was not much information we could get on what happened to anwar and family after he was caught and put into lockup. I guess that was the Untold part that this movie tried to convey.
I was told the original movie was supposed to be 180 minutes but shorten to 100minutes. Probably that's why the scenes transitions are not good at some parts. But as a whole, i think it is still a good movie with a good message and worth to be watched.
