‘Project Hail Mary’ Reveals First 5 Minutes: Ryan Gosling Wakes Up Alone in Space and Meets an Alien Named Rocky
Image
Ryan Gosling is blasting off into space in next year’s “Project Hail Mary,” but first he made a stop at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday.

Gosling joined a packed Hall H panel alongside directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, writer Drew Goddard and author Andy Weir, who wrote the original book. Gosling plays astronaut Ryland Grace who “awakens on a spacecraft with no memory of himself or his mission. He slowly deduces he is the sole survivor of a crew sent to the Tau Ceti solar system in search of a solution to a catastrophic event on Earth. In his search for answers, Grace must rely on his vast array of scientific knowledge, sheer ingenuity and human will — but he may not have to search alone.”

To kick things off, the team showed the first five minutes of the sci-fi film to the audience. The movie starts with...

Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Watch the trailer for Project Hail Mary, where Ryan Gosling has to save Earth
Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Ryan Gosling plays middle school teacher/savior of humanity Ryland Grace in Project Hail Mary, a new sci-fi movie with a lot of impressive names behind the camera. First of all, the movie is based on a novel by Andy Weir, the guy who wrote The Martian, and you may notice some similarities in the plot. In The Martian, one lone man must learn to live by himself on Mars while awaiting rescue. In Project Hail Mary, one lone man must learn to live alone after he's shot into space, since apparently he's the only one with the technical expertise to figure out why the sun is fading away; if he doesn't solve the problem, humanity will go extinct.

When Ryland Grace wakes aboard this spaceship, light years away from home, he has no memory of how he got there. Happily, the trailer is here to fill us in; you can watch it above.

First Trailer Has Landed For Project Hail Mary Starring Ryan Gosling, Directed By Phil Lord And Chris Miller
Image
“I put the ‘not’ in astronaut.” Ryan Gosling, who previously played astronaut Neil Armstrong in 2018’s First Man, suits up again in the brand new trailer for the highly anticipated Project Hail Mary.

Based on the novel by Andy Weir and directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard, Project Hail Mary is in theaters March 20, 2026.

Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.

Both Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (their first film since...

Ryan Gosling Is a Teacher on a Mission in 'Project Hail Mary' Trailer
Image
The first trailer for Phil Lord and Chris Miller's latest movie, Project Hail Mary, has just been released, giving viewers their first look at Ryan Gosling's underdog protagonist as he goes on a mission to save the world. The trailer does a great job of setting up the emotional stakes for the upcoming film, which stars Gosling as high school teacher Ryland Grace, who embarks on a mission to space in an attempt to find a solution to a world-ending event on planet Earth. The trailer constantly flashes back and forth between Ryland preparing for the mission and him struggling to survive in space.

Project Hail Mary also features Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub, Lionel Boyce, and Ken Leung in various supporting roles in the film, helping along with Ryland's mission. The premise feels like it has the makings of a great feel-good underdog story, with Ryland constantly doubting himself throughout the trailer,...

Ryan Gosling Wakes Up Alone in Space in First Look at ‘Project Hail Mary’
Image
Ryan Gosling is suiting up for space again, this time in Project Hail Mary, a sci-fi movie based on the bestselling novel by Andy Weir, the author behind The Martian. The first trailer just dropped, and fans are already talking about it.

The film is coming to theaters on March 20, 2026, and is being released by Amazon MGM Studios in the U.S.

In this story, Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a regular science teacher who suddenly wakes up on a spaceship with no idea who he is or how he got there. As his memory slowly comes back, he realizes he’s on a solo mission to save Earth. The sun is dying, and unless Ryland figures out why, life on Earth could end.

The trailer starts with a messy, confused Ryland waking up alone in space. Then it cuts to scenes from his life back on Earth, showing how he...

The Project Hail Mary Trailer Gives Away The Book's Big Sci-Fi Twist
Image
What if you took the "Science the s*** out of this" energy from "The Martian," added a dose of "Arrival," and swapped out the professionalism of Mark Watney for something closer to the buddy comedy hijinks of "Lethal Weapon" ... but in space? The results would be something close to the story of "Project Hail Mary," the latest adaptation of an Andy Weir novel. Starring Ryan Gosling as our newest astronaut completely in over his head, the story follows Ryland Grace as our main protagonist stranded in space with absolutely no memory of how that actually happened. The book remains one of my favorite reading experiences in recent memory, precisely because it plays out by throwing us into the deep end and slowly unspooling the circumstances surrounding these life-or-death stakes over the course of several chapters.

The movie, by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and written by Drew Goddard, takes a slightly different tact.

Ryan Gosling Launches Into Space in Thrilling ‘Project Hail Mary’ Trailer

Ryan Gosling is heading back to space, and this time it’s for Project Hail Mary, a new sci-fi movie based on the hit book by Andy Weir, the same guy who wrote The Martian. The trailer for the film just dropped, and fans are already buzzing about it. The movie is set to come out in theaters on March 20, 2026.

In the movie, Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a middle school science teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship. He has no idea who he is or why he’s there at first, but bit by bit, he starts to remember.

Turns out, he’s the only one left on a super important mission to figure out what’s making the sun slowly die. If he fails, Earth could go extinct.

The trailer opens with a confused Ryland waking up on the ship, messy and lost. Then it flashes back to moments from his past,...

Ryan Gosling Is Earth’s Only Hope in ‘Project Hail Mary’ Trailer
Image
Ryan Gosling isn’t convinced that venturing to outer space seems like a blast in the first trailer for Amazon MGM Studios’ sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed the film that hits theaters March 20, 2026. Sandra Hüller and Milana Vayntrub also star in the feature that adapts author Andy Weir’s novel of the same name.

Project Hail Mary centers on middle school teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling), who finds himself on a spaceship with no memory of his past or how he ended up there. His interstellar mission, which must be successfully completed in order to save Earth from a potential disaster, leads him to meet a mysterious alien who also seeks to save his own species.

The film’s first footage debuted at CinemaCon in April and included Hüller delivering a dire warning. “The sun is not the only star dying,” she explains in the trailer.

‘Project Hail Mary’ Trailer: Ryan Gosling Is a Science Teacher Trapped in Space
Image
Ryan Gosling puts the “not” in “astronaut” in the first trailer for “Project Hail Mary,” Amazon MGM Studios’ adaptation of the Andy Weir novel of the same name. The film hails from “Jump Street” and “Spider-Verse” filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with “The Martian” screenwriter Drew Goddard on script duties for a story that’s not entirely dissimilar from that previous Weir adaptation starring Matt Damon.

Gosling plays a middle school science teacher whom an international group enlists as humanity’s last hope — he is to travel 11.9 million light-years as Earth faces extinction with the Sun dying out.

Set to Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times” and showing off some eye-popping cinematography by Oscar-winning “Dune” and “The Batman” Dp Greig Fraser, the trailer boasts a mix of humor and humanity that is a hallmark of Lord and Miller’s filmography.

Speaking of, this marks Lord and Miller’s first...

Project Hail Mary Trailer: Ryan Gosling Is Lost In Space In Phil Lord And Chris Miller’s Return
Image
Let’s be clear: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller haven’t exactly been absent. They’ve spent much of the last 10 years shepherding the Spider-Verse trilogy into existence; they produced Cocaine Bear and Strays and The Mitchells Vs. The Machines. But the last time they directed a film? That would be 2014’s 22 Jump Street. So in a way, Project Hail Mary can be seen as something of a Lord and Miller comeback – their first film as directors in over a decade. And as you watch the trailer, you’ll likely agree: it’s good to have them back. Check it out:

This one is a sci-fi adventure-comedy, based on the novel by Andy Weir, the man behind The Martian. It stars Ryan Gosling as a 6th grade science teacher sent on a ‘Hail Mary’ mission to space, despite having no astronaut credentials, to investigate why stars across the universe...

"If we do nothing, everything on this planet will go extinct." "You'll find a solution." "You are my solution." Amazon MGM Studios + Warner Bros have revealed the first official trailer for Project Hail Mary, the epic sci-fi space adventure movie from filmmakers Phil Lord & Chris Miller. This is the first new movie they've directed since making 22 Jump Street in 2014, along with "The Afterparty" series as well. Adapted from Andy Weir's acclaimed novel of the same name, this is the story of an astronaut who tries to save Earth while alone in outer space. The movie stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, who wakes up on a spacecraft at Tau Ceti with no memory of himself or his mission. ‘I Was So Miserable’: Johnny Depp Candidly Reflects on the Role That Made Him a Star
Image
Johnny Depp has been one of Hollywood's most world-renowned actors for decades, especially since taking on the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The associated fame is not something he's ever been thrilled about, however, as he can still remember feeling "miserable" when he noticed how people treated him differently once he became a star.

Back in 1984, Depp landed a role in the horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street after he was encouraged to audition by Nicolas Cage, who was a friend of his then-wife. At the time, Depp was planning to have a career in music, but the success of the Freddy Krueger film led to other casting opportunities. Soon after, he was cast in the role of an undercover cop in a high school for the TV series 21 Jump Street. This role established Depp as a leading man, but the...

Project Hail Mary | The upcoming sci-fi film to put on your radar

Ryan Gosling will star in a film adaptation of Andy Weir’s science thriller novel Project Hail Mary, and there’s much to look forward to.

Warning! Very, very mild spoilers for Project Hail Mary’s premise.

It’s in the title; Film Stories. You’re most likely on this website to read about films or maybe a TV show every once in a while. Maybe you’ve bought one of our magazines (and gawd bless you for doing so). Yet here, I’m talking about a book, albeit one currently being adapted into a movie: it’s Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary.

If either name rings a bell, it’s probably because Weir also penned the novel Ridley Scott’s excellent The Martian was adapted from (Ridley Scott’s last great film to date? Discuss…).

‘Overcompensating’ Review: Benito Skinner’s Basic College Comedy Works Well Enough Where It Counts
Image
Every generation gets their own raucous college comedy, and whether yours is “Animal House” (1978) or “Van Wilder” (2002), “School Daze” (1988) or “22 Jump Street” (2014), “Legally Blonde” (2001) or “Everybody Wants Some!” (released 2016 but set in 1980), you’ll recognize plenty of each in Benito Skinner’s Amazon Prime Video series, “Overcompensating.”

Although it’s unclear what generation the 31-year-old Skinner is meant to be representing when his modern-day freshmen profuse their love for decade-old pop culture like “Glee” (2009-2015), the “Twilight” films (2008-2012), and Nicki Minaj’s 2011 banger, “Super Bass” — while still selling their souls for to see Charli Xcx (an executive producer on the series) — the first season’s emphasis on universal elements, like hormone-induced comic hysteria and early-adult edification, prove endearing enough to overcome nagging failures of overfamiliarity and nostalgic imprecision.

At his Idaho high school, Benny (Skinner) is the golden boy: star quarterback on the football team, class valedictorian, and Homecoming king.

‘Summer of 69’ Review: Ecstatically Funny Teen Sex Comedy Deserves Better Than Hulu Streaming
Image
Jillian Bell’s directorial debut is a drop-dead funny “Risky Business” riff that would have killed in theaters

Some movies feel like they sprang organically from the hearts and souls of their creators. Others, like Jillian Bell’s directorial debut “Summer of 69,” seem to have been reverse-engineered from a clever title. I can’t say for sure that Bell and/or her co-writers Liz Nico and Jules Byrne came up with the idea for a movie about a teen girl hiring a sex worker to teach her how to “69” her prospective boyfriend by working backwards from the phrase “Summer of 69.” But I can say that if they just happened to come up with a 69-centric comedy premise, it sure was kismet that the words “Summer of 69” were already out there, even if the movie really is more of a late spring affair.

“Summer of 69” stars Sam Morelos as Abby Flores,...

Who Is The Richest Thunderbolts* Star? It’s Not Florence Pugh!

Who is the top earner for Marvel’s Thunderbolts? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Fans may’ve expected big MCU names like Sebastian Stan or Florence Pugh to top the financial charts for the movie. But plot twist — it is Julia Louis-Dreyfus who quietly flexed the fattest bank account behind the scenes.

Yep, the comedic queen who played Valentina Allegra de Fontaine had a jaw-dropping net worth of $250 million (via Celebrity Net Worth). That number left her Thunderbolts co-stars trailing by miles. While she pulled strings in the shadows on screen, off-screen she ruled the paycheck leaderboard. Julia wasn’t new to commanding attention, she dominated sitcom royalty with Seinfeld, crushed awards with Veep, and later slid into the MCU with the same effortless power.

The rest of the cast? Not exactly broke, but nowhere close. Florence Pugh, known for flipping between emotional depth in Little Women and intense action in Black Widow,...

Are We Going To Get a 'Bridesmaids' Sequel? Director Paul Feig Weighs In
Image
The Hollywood formula is simple: If a movie is good, people instantly assume that it will get a sequel. But some stories are simply better left as one-offs — at least that's what director Paul Feigtold Collider's Steve Weintraub at a recent Q&a for his new film, Another Simple Favor. Feig is an accomplished director, bringing us some of our favorite projects, including several episodes of The Office, the female reboot of Ghostbusters, and the hit comedy Bridesmaids. The Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig film is a beloved classic, meaning people often ask if there will be a sequel to the film.

During his Q&a with Weintraub, Feig brought up working with multiple cameras. He spoke about Bridesmaids and shooting Wiig and Rudolph and the coverage he could get on them by "cross shooting." Feig bringing up the film allowed Weintraub to ask if there was ever a chance...

Channing Tatum Felt Traumatised After Gambit Was Shelved & Admitted He Avoided Watching Marvel Films For Years
Image
Channing Tatum Gambit Trauma (Photo Credit – Instagram)

For Channing Tatum, Marvel movies weren’t just entertainment, they were a reminder of what could’ve been. The actor once poured years of passion and effort into a solo Gambit film, only to watch it crumble. And that sting stuck around.

“I haven’t been able to see any of the [Marvel] movies [since],” Tatum told Variety back in 2022. “I loved that character. It was just too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him.”

That heartbreak started way back in 2014. Tatum had been cast as Gambit, the smooth-talking, card-slinging mutant from the X-Men universe. The plan? Introduce him in X-Men: Apocalypse and follow it up with a solo film. But the rollout never happened.

Thunderbolts* Character Posters Crash Onto The Scene, Setting The Stage For Marvel's Next Big Blockbuster
Image
Marvel Studios has released six new character posters from Jake Schreier's Thunderbolts*, to tell you exactly what is and what isn't a Thunderbolt - and spotlighting the six main Marvel antiheroes headlining the feature: Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and John Walker (Wyatt Russell).

While the plot has remained mostly under wraps, the film will follow these six disillusioned castoffs as they find themselves caught in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), forcing them to band together and face the darkest corners of their past - as well as take on a threat unlike any the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen: Sentry (Lewis Pullman).

With Walt Disney Studios hosting their CinemaCon presentation tomorrow, it's likely the attendees will be treated to an extended look at the movie and, while it may be unlikely,...

"Bye Felicia": Ice Cube Is Back as Craig Jones With 'Last Friday'
Image
The Friday franchise has just been revived more than 20 years after the last movie was released. New Line President and Cco Richard Brener confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Ice Cube had reached a deal to write and star in Last Friday, which will directly follow Friday After Next (2002). Ice Cube mentioned last summer that he was pushing for another Friday movie to get made, but that he wasn’t making any ground convincing Warner Bros. that it was worthwhile. There is no word on if Chris Tucker, Mike Epps, or John Witherspoon are attached to star. It is also unknown at this time who will direct the film, and additional casting is ongoing. Last Friday also has no official release date at this time.

The first Friday movie hit theaters in 1995 and was an instant hit. The film earned scores of 77% from critics and 91% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes,...

What’s Coming to Disney+ and Hulu in April
Image
April showers… don’t matter if you’re sat inside watching TV. The Disney Bundle™ ensures that this is possible in perpetuity, with the entire libraries of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN available in whichever permutation serves your lifestyle.

This spring, Disney+ continues the rollout of “Daredevil: Born Again” and soon welcomes the return of “Andor” Season 2 (and achieving the rare astrological phase in which both Marvel and Star Wars are active on the streamer). Plenty of shows and movies will also join the Hulu library; the Emmy-winning original series “The Handmaid’s Tale” returns after a three-year hiatus with its sixth and final season, and FX will premiere the limited series “Dying for Sex” starring Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate (based on the podcast from Molly Kochan and Nikki Boyer).

Top Pick: “Andor” Season 2

The Emmy-nominated (and IndieWire-beloved) series from Tony Gilroy returns for its second and final season this spring,...

Could Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir series get a black-and-white release?
Image
I’m really looking forward to Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir, and one actor on the series has teased that it could double down on the film noir aspect. While speaking with ComingSoon.net, Lukas Haas said Spider-Noir could be released in black-and-white. I’d be into that.

“We filmed it in — I think it may come out in both black and white and color, but when we filmed it, the monitors were all black and white, so you got this feeling and it looked very, very authentic,” Haas said. “To the point that I would actually go and look at the monitor and think I was looking at some older footage, but it was actually just a monitor of what was on the camera at the time. They did a beautiful job with the filters and all that stuff, making it look like genuine old 1930s, black and white film.

Amy Aquino and Andrew Robinson join Spider-Noir in recurring roles
Image
Longlegs star Nicolas Cage voiced the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and we’re going to have the chance to watch him play the character in live-action in the upcoming MGM+ and Prime Video series that’s going by the title Spider-Noir. That show is currently in production, and today, Deadline revealed that the recurring cast includes Amy Aquino (Bosch) and Andrew Robinson (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)!

I’m especially excited to hear that Andrew Robinson is involved with this show, because he has been largely absent from our screens for way too long. The character actors has racked up over 100 credits over the course of a career that stretches back to 1969, with Dirty Harry, Mask, Cobra, Hellraiser, Shoot to Kill, Child’s Play 3, Trancers III, Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, and The Puppet Masters being among the many movies you might have seen him in.

‘Kinda Pregnant’ Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Who in Netflix’s Comedy?

Amy Schumer is back with a new comedy, and she’s got a lot of familiar faces alongside her.

Now streaming on Netflix, “Kinda Pregnant” centers on a woman who has dreamed of settling down and becoming a mom, but life hasn’t had that in the cards for her just yet. So, when her best friend gets pregnant, she kind of spins out.

That spin-out includes using a pregnancy belly to fake her own, but of course, that scheme quickly goes awry. It gets very messy.

Here’s who you need to know in the film.

Amy Schumer in “Kinda Pregnant” (Netflix) Lainy Newton (Amy Schumer)

Lainy Newton is a schoolteacher who has always wanted to settle down and start a family, but she doesn’t have the best taste on who to settle down with. She’s played by “Trainwreck” and “I Feel Pretty” star Amy Schumer.

4 Netflix films to watch (and 2 to skip) that are leaving at the end of January
Image
A bunch of good films have already left Netflix in January. This makes sense as the streamer believes it's just good business to have a month start mostly anew. The turn of the month means new stuff to view, and room needs to be made.

Still, there are several movies that will be leaving Netflix in January, but we have until January 31 to watch the six films below. Or, you know, skip two of them. The decision is yours but just be forewarned that some of the films are good, and the others, not so much.

So what to watch and what to skip? We have some ideas. Just don't hate us if you disagree. (Please.)

Movies leaving Netflix in January that you should see (and two you shouldn't)Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Watch! Sure, this movie is not exactly original, and it relies on its stars too much, but...
