Trooper (2013)
TNT picks up Rebecca Romijn crime drama 'King and Maxwell' to series
Trooper (2013)
TNT has picked up new crime drama King and Maxwell to series. However, the network will not be ordering additional episodes of Trooper - starring Mira Sorvino - beyond the pilot, Deadline reports. King and Maxwell - based on the novels by author David Baldacci - has been picked up for a ten-episode first season, to launch in summer 2013. Sons of Anarchy actor Ryan Hurst also appears in the pilot episode as an autistic savant - and suspected serial killer - who helps King to crack a (more)...

Rebecca Romijn Pilot Ordered To Series By TNT
As if we need another investigator based series, TNT is set to deliver one this summer anyway.

Rebecca Romijn will star along with Jon Tenney (The Closer) in the previously titled series King And Maxwell, about a private investigator duo. The network has ordered ten episodes of the show from NCIS: La executive producer Shane Brennan.

For those unfamiliar with the project, it revolves about two former Secret Service agents who have moved into the private sector. The characters are based on bestselling author David Baldacci’s creations and they have been described as not “the typical pair of private investigators.”

Although none of the details released so far particularly stand out, the one bit of shining news is that Ryan Hurst will co-star. Hurst is probably best known by fans as Opie Winston from the hit FX drama, Sons of Anarchy. In King and Maxwell, Hurst will play Edgar Roy,...

Exclusive: Mira Sorvino to Headline Drama Pilot Trooper – This Time For TNT
Mira Sorvino
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Mira Sorvino has signed on to star in Trooper, an hour-long procedural for TNT about a common-sense mother-turned-New York state trooper.

Sounds familiar, right? That’s because Sorvino was attached to the same project last spring when it was in development at CBS. The Eye network ultimately passed on the Warner Bros.-produced drama, but TNT saw enough potential to greenlight a new pilot last month. Execs at the cable net clearly liked some of the original casting decisions, seeing as how their search for a new leading lady led them right back to Sorvino.

Craig Gillespie in Talks to Direct Will Ferrell in Flamingo Thief
When last we reported on the adaptation of Susan Trott's novel, Flamingo Thief, it was to announce that Will Ferrell (Old School) was set to star. Now, we have word that Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) is in negotiations to direct the bittersweet comedy. The Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree) script made its way onto the 2011 Black List. Faced with the impending loss of his wife and his business, Ferrell would play a lawyer who steals novelty flamingos as a coping mechanism. There's no timeline being reported for Ferrell's involvement yet as he's set to star in Anchorman 2 later this year and will topline Three Mississippi, a football comedy for Warner Bros. Gillespie most recently directed the remake of Fright Night starring Colin Farrell and the TV movie, Trooper. Hit the jump for the synopsis of the Trott novel, Flamingo Thief. Variety reports that Gillespie...

CBS Fall TV 2012 predictions: Will 'The Good Wife' move, and will 'CSI: Miami' and 'CSI: NY' both survive?
CBS took much of the suspense out of its upfront by renewing the great majority of its lineup back in March. "Two and a Half Men" wasn't on that list, but it's a lock to return.

The only questions now are, where does the network put all those shows? And of the remaining shows not yet renewed, will both "CSI: Miami" and "CSI: NY" make it to next season?

"The Good Wife" is already picked up for 2012-13, but there's been a lot of speculation that CBS will find a new timeslot for it. We don't mind it staying at 9 on Sundays -- but in our schedule, it waits until midseason so it A) doesn't get pushed back by NFL overruns in the fall and B) can have a mostly uninterrupted run starting in January. The network is also reportedly considering expanding its Thursday comedy block, which would move one...

CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY Sweep Awards, But May Get Cut
Too big to fail? That attitude died with Enron and was buried under the ashes of AOL-Time Warner. Now CSI needs to watch its neck.

The franchise dominates viewership around the globe. It just swallowed up three nomination spots for the International TV Audience Awards at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. It rakes in ratings that would make the NFL green with envy.

It also stands to lose one of its shows to satisfy CBS’s bottom line.

What, you thought this racket was about ratings? Audience following? Artistic merit?

It’s the same the world over: All about the shekels. And CBS has come to a point where it wants to shift cash into fresh projects, rather than keep shelling out for a series that can already make millions on syndicated re-runs.

The warning signs are all there. The syndication for the CSI spin-offs is locked into a robust alphabet soup of cable networks – TNT,...

NYC Beating La In TV Drama Pilot For The First Time
Roland Emmerich in Maison-Blanche en péril (2013)

The major uptick in drama pilot production signals the first time New York has eclipsed our west coast rival, all part of a lovely trend that follows last summer's record-breaking 23 television series being filmed in New York.

Our introduction to the 11 pilots contributing to our new source of pride:

666 Park Avenue ABC

Garrett Greer: What Could Be Coming To CBS This Fall
Every year, the five major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox and NBC) order pilots to be considered for the fall season. A pilot, as you may know, is the first episode of a TV series and the final step in a long development process from idea to screen.

From the 87 drama and comedy pilots ordered this year, a new crop of television shows will be selected -- and I read the scripts for each and every one of them. Over the course of this week, I'm walking you through the network's pilot slates, offering a bit of analysis on their present schedules and providing you with a rundown of the drama contenders. (Plus, a little bit of info about the comedies, too.) Of course, not all of these shows will find their way to your TV set -- in fact, most of them you may never hear of again.
