I did not see something exciting about this movie from the time I watched it. Yeah, cool concept, a dad broke out of the jail with a comic relief character (he deserve better roles, imo) travels to get back to his family. Cool character + comic relief is kinda overused so I hope we better change that.
I believe it could've been better as the start of the movie did not explain how the outbreak occured. It failed to create and narrate better characters that should have personality. The story should be explored more too, I believe there should be more, since I was trapped into one plot of escaping.

This movie is almost a perfect scene for scene ripoff of Aliens, transformed into a zombie apocalypse movie. They copied phrases and events liberally.
Other than that, it's just your typical lame zombie movie with maddening poor decisions by the characters, along with zombie that are either highly motivated to take out a character, or strangely reticent.
Watch it if you want the humor of predicting what will happen next according to the Aliens movie storyline.
I was able to watch the hold thing, despite the low production quality and poor acting and horrendous dubs into English.
Good luck, and may the zombies have mercy on your soul.

Day Zero is a 2022 horror film edited and directed by Joey De Guzman (The Ghosting and Gen Z). It was written by Ays De Guzman (Da Possessed, Only You, and The Reunion). It was produced by Erik Matti (On the Job, Buybust, ABCs of Death 2, and Rabid). It was shot in the Philippines. When society starts to breaks down due to a violent outbreak that turns victims into undead monsters, a former elite soldier known as Emon (played by: professional fighter Brandon Vera from Buybust and Kamandag) is forced to break out of jail to find and save his family before it's too late!!!!
There's something different about Asian zombie flicks that always make them stand out from the rest & Day Zero is no different. This one has a simple storyline and concept but it works for this. It has a great balance of horror and action here. The special fx were top notch for this lower budget production. It had some brutal kills & I really enjoyed the look of the zombies. As far as acting goes, it's exactly what you would expect for this type of movie.
Fighter Brandon Vera is a bad ass in Day Zero & those undead killers keep him busy throughout everything in this. I didn't know what to expect with Day Zero but it didn't disappoint at all. Turn off your brain and just enjoy the entertainment. This one goes by fast and it's very fun. Well Go has been killing it lately when it comes to these darker films. If you are into Asian cinema, Horror, Zombies, and Action then you need to check this one out ASAP!!!!

First off, i can definitely say I can easily write 3 negative points about the film. But I can also write 7 good things about the movie!
I especially love the cinematography and the fight-for-survival scenes when Emon had a high-caliber weapon, a 45 caliber, and a knife. Also worth the mention was the ax scenes but would question the writer why quickly leave the weapon? Haha
I would've loved it if it happened in a more affluent condo or housing unit. I get it why it was set on the set building but would love to add some international appeal especially if they are planning to have a sequel. Like Emon didnt turn or fully turn into a zombie?
Some other suggestions would be, if I know the main bite points are arms, i would have a scene wrapping something that would prevent a bite.
But overall it was fun to watch except those times where zombies can't see but not applicable on some scenes.
I hope, if there is a sequel/prequel/spin-off, they would learn from good zombie movies. But overall, I like it to deserve a 7 out of 10 stars. Glad Philippine cinema is improving. Kudos to the whole team!
Overall I love the action scenes. Probably less drama from some of the other characters.

Hmm, I was waiting for an exciting part since I am a fan of zombie films and I think this is the first serious Filipino zombie film but honestly, I didn't find the thrill I was waiting for!
The zombies looked real which is a compliment to the make up artists. The story is not that good and the continuity is non-existent! One thing to note however are the action sequences, which looked great, especially the cgi.
Unconvincing acting and dialogue! Color grading looked like an ordinary prime time tv series.
Filipinos still need a lot of things to learn and more time to spend to make better, entertaining films!
