Most Westerners don't know much about Russia or Putin, and if you watch this hit piece, you'll know even less.
It's a complete work of fiction, with a few unimportant "facts" that are then dressed up with crazy fantasies to paint a portrait that is almost humorously evil.
Unfortunately, many people see these kind of movies and believe they are a biography, a historical record, and not just a vanity project from a person with an ax to grind. I noticed one reviewer actually referred to this as a "documentary".
If you are interested in history and geopolitics on a serious level, you will not be able to sit through this movie. It's that stupid. If you are satisfied to just read headlines of articles or whatever news you get through osmosis from the propaganda floating around, you may enjoy it.
I'd give it no stars, but I have to give it one.

I watched this whole movie in an Imax from start to finish. This is easily the worst movie I've ever seen. I see the reviews defending it all talk about it being psychological and cerebral. The problem with that opinion is that it's wrong. Having a movie revolve around the inner monologue between an AI man and his imaginary devil boy is neither cerebral nor historically accurate. The camera work is awful. The acting by almost everyone is awful. The movie is every sin Russia committed in order except through a sepia tone filter of inaccuracies and exaggerations. The movie is not unique in a good way, not even in an interesting way. After the brief kid Putin backstory and the, "intro" you are watching the same scene over and over again. Someone or something has more power than Putin, Putin's devil boy says to kill them, Putin makes them dead in a very anticlimactic way, Putin gets more power, repeat from Afghanistan to Ukraine for an hour and a half. This is not subversive or quirky or interesting. It's boring, bad storytelling, assumes A LOT of the unknown thoughts behind historical events, and could be shot better by a highschooler with an iphone. Except for Putin talking about Bill Clinton once there's like no actual foreign policy in the movie, barely any politics, no management or actual leading, no nuance look on Putin in either direction. Every decision Putin makes is based on what this imaginary devil boy says. The Director just assumes Putin is possessed by the Devil and has no personality. I'm not defending Putin but why make a movie about a politician in a very interesting position if all you're going to do is water him down to a demon? Why not just make a movie about the actual Devil at that point. I don't understand what this movie was trying to say or what it wants us to feel. I don't think any of these scenes played out remotely irl for the reasons the Director thinks they did. I don't know how you can manage to make a biography about one of the most well documented figures that feels mostly made up. I could overlook propaganda and fiction if it was entertaining or emotional, but it's just flat out boring and poorly made.

I expected a movie about Putin to be bad, but I didn't think it would be this bad. It's neither a neutral biography nor a compelling drama-it's neither. The film can't decide whether it wants to be propaganda or a critical piece, and the result is a confusing mess that's both dull and pointless.
The acting is lifeless, the script is shallow, and the cinematography is a complete disappointment. Putin's character is either portrayed as an artificial hero or a cliché villain, both of which feel unrealistic and insulting to the audience's intelligence.
To be honest, I don't like Putin, but I disliked this movie even more. If it aims to be propaganda, it fails; if it tries to be critical, it fails again. It's unclear what it even wants to say. One of the worst biographical films I've ever seen-maybe the worst. Even a 1/10 would be generous.

I watched a ton of films and series so when I say this is one of the worst of them believe it.
We get it,you are angry at the man but no film should ever carry that into the film.
The AI is bad, camera work is horrible, the music, forgettable.
Half the time we don't know what the hell is going on,the facial expressions are robotic.
This is an incoherent piece of film,if you hated the man and his legacy the least you can do is atleast be able to engage in some sort of propaganda that is atleast hidden and subtle rather than full blown rage at the man.
This was clearly a waste of time,I am sure a man that does 2 simultaneous invasions deserves a bad film about him that one that does a single invasion that is atleast a bit reasonable.
Absolutely failed movie and an example of a horrible film.

Putin is a brilliantly bad "movie." Seriously, it takes a lot of talent to pull this off. I truly believe that the creators did a gargantuan job to make absolutely everything in this movie dumb, laughable and disconcerting. Like Scary Movie, but with the bonus of parasitizing on the tragedy of the Ukrainian people. As a cherry on top, the hard drive with the final cut was pissed on to give the film that artsy yellow filter. I won't dignify this incoherent garbage with analyzing any more of its features, because I've wasted enough time on it already.
In a distant future, we may live to see not only a handful of serious biopics about Putin, but also a new Armando Ianucci who will bring us the work similar to The Death of Stalin. But not now. Now, we only have Patryk Vega, the most hated filmmaker of Poland, and his abomination that will, God willing, shortly descend into obscurity. Make no mistake, it's not "so bad it's good" or a guilty pleasure, it's just guilty.

First off, after watching this flick and wanting the time back to do something productive with it, I decided to check out reviews knowing how polarized they and the up/down votes would be. I wasn't disappointed. Some single-review users are even begging the FBI (the American Stasi) to investigate and charge anyone who leaves the movie a bad review, as if all of us are in the US and subject to its laws (I guess Julian Assange would have something to say there).
The film is just a terrible biopic with all the usual western narrative infused background information on V V Putin's life, his career in the Soviet version of the FBI (no, not quite their CIA as it was also concerned with domestic spying) and his rise to power after the demise of the Soviet Union.
There is zero nuance, as it's a full-scale and unprovoked invasion of the viewer's psyche designed to further propagandize the masses and paint foreign "dictators" as the real threat to our so-called freedom and democracy in the collective west. The way the character (and all of them, really) is portrayed is just completely one-sided and worse still, unbelievable. The production is also amateur all around. I normally find something to compliment a moviemaker about, but here we have shoddy camera work, terrible framing and lighting, the sound is awful, the soundtrack could come straight from a Red Scare era propaganda film, and the acting is out of this world bad.
Think about that for a second - this movie has ZERO redeeming qualities. If they had made a well shot, professionally produced and - most importantly competently written and acted - movie, I could have appreciated it on its technical and artistic merits. But alas there is absolutely nothing positive to say about this, and what's worse is it will obviously fail to gain interest or engage viewers for the producers' intended effect - villainizing an already comically hyper-villainized Russian autocrat in whose real-life orbit even more villainous people exist. Honestly, I could have probably achieved at least a 4 star film with just the script, but these guys failed miserably and they have clearly employed the services of a troll army to downvote every honest negative review.
Avoid this. Read Putin's Wikipedia page instead.

The script is hopeless, filled with shallow dialogue and devoid of any coherent plot or meaningful character development. It feels like a patchwork of lazy tropes, thrown together without any thought or effort to create something engaging or impactful. The acting is equally lackluster, with performances that range from wooden and uninspired to outright cringeworthy. It's clear that even the actors weren't convinced by the material they were working with.
However, the most glaring flaw-and the one that truly sinks this movie-is the disastrous use of AI. The AI-rendered face of Putin is embarrassingly bad. It's poorly integrated into the film, with lighting and textures that don't match the surrounding environment. The result is something that looks less like advanced technology and more like an amateur's botched Photoshop attempt. Every time the AI face appears on screen, it pulls you out of the story (what little there is of it) and makes you painfully aware of the film's technical shortcomings.
The overall experience is a complete waste of time. Every minute felt like a chore, as though the movie was actively trying to frustrate and disappoint. It's particularly disheartening because the premise had potential. With better writing, acting, and production values, it could have been something akin to The Death of Stalin-a sharp, satirical, and darkly humorous exploration of politics and power. Instead, we're left with a pale, clumsy imitation that fails on every front.
A shame, really. What could have been an incisive political comedy is instead an example of everything wrong with rushed, low-effort filmmaking.

Just basically a giant sigma edit of how awesome and powerful Putin is. Which hides behind being smart and edgy. Truly a main character of modern world. The only thing missing was Drive Forever playing on the background throughout the movie. Vega actually believes that Putin is Russian John Wick, going around doing whatever he wants being an unstoppable relentless force. And he actually is victorious in the end, destroying the world and dying with a little coy smile on his face. And no amount of references to Orwell will get you back from that. I wanted to throw up while I watched it, literally.
I somehow made it to the end holding on to hope that Vega is just trying to show us how cringe is this belief that Putin is actually the sigma worldchanger, but no, it is he who believes that and the film is just cringe. I'm actually disgusted to write a review for this piece of garbage, but I'm hoping to save someone from watching it for themselves. Please, I'm begging you don't.

I just watched the new movie Putin, and I have to say, I'm very disappointed. With a production of this scale, you'd expect them to use AI or visual effects properly, especially when portraying such a well-known figure. Instead, the actor barely resembles Putin - the facial animations are stiff, the mouth movements don't sync well, and his gaze feels lifeless. Honestly, modern video game characters look more believable. The film feels more like an experimental art piece than a proper movie. It seems the director's only goal was to portray Putin negatively, but even that was done with a weak, poorly constructed storyline and low-quality visuals.

This film challenges the viewer to approach it with an open mind, as it offers a layered and investigative exploration of Putin's political and personal dimensions. Rather than feeding into the simplistic narrative of "Putin the Villain" often presented by Western media and political discourse, it delves into the complexities of geopolitics, Russia's unique position in the global power dynamic, and even the human aspects of its controversial leader.
The documentary doesn't aim to provide definitive answers or affirm entrenched beliefs. Instead, it invites viewers to consider alternative perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of modern Russian power structures and the intricacies of international relations. Beyond its political depth, it's an engaging and thought-provoking watch that encourages reflection rather than easy conclusions.

The clever non-linear timeline of fresh, original political biopic "Putin" flashes back in bite-sized chunks over key chapters in the life of the titular Russian President (professional lookalike Slawomir Sabala) - including his childhood, the Soviet Union's collapse when he was a KGB operative in Germany, his ruthless (and murderous) political rise to the office of President Yeltsin (Tomasz Dedek) that he then took, and his tightening grip on Russia via false-flag terrorist attacks on his own people, etc... culminating in the war on Ukraine. Polish writer / director Patryk Vega uses plenty of artistic license to highlight Putin's evil - but it works. An engaging & enlightening film.

This is a compelling and expertly crafted film that works best as a psychological portrait, with its historical aspects serving as a secondary layer. Putin is depicted as a profoundly evil figure who deliberately descends deeper into wickedness, driven by his boundless ambitions and sadistic nature.
On another level, the film carries a strong religious undertone, contrasting God's ever-present offer of goodness and mercy with a man's relentless choice of power and evil, rejecting divine grace at every turn.
The AI-generated portrayal of Putin's artificial face is particularly impressive and adds a chilling realism.
Notably, the film includes sharp commentary, such as the critique of certain pro-Russian politicians (e.g., Merkel or Tusk) whose actions inadvertently aided Putin's rise.

A superbly interesting portrayal by a talented team of the sober, black, soulless, beady-eyed narcissistic and sociopathic former KGB agent who rose amongst the ranks of vodka soused Soviet era guard and the incompetently corrupt, self-indulgent political class. Steeped in symbolism, narrated by intimate voices from his evocative past and an appropriate dystopian aura of fear and loathing that has ruled Russia ever since the Bolshevik revolution; the film takes us through well documented, undisputed milestones that were influential throughout the tyrannical dictator's life.
From a sad, early, impactful childhood, KGB role in training East German agents, incredibly fortunate rise to power through Yeltsin, leveraging his craftwork abilities and connections, ties to the shady criminal underworld and lust for unyielding power and rule over the world's most powerful gangster state governed masterfully through a precarious balance of blackmail, bribes, radioactive isotopes, lies, corruption and window tossing of adversaries; this is a memorable depiction of the dictator's ruinous drive and rise through sheer devilish, steadfast brutality.
It's an impressive work of art that is worth seeing by those unfamiliar with Russian history post fall of the iron curtain as well as those of us Europeans very familiar with all of these incidents; it brings an interesting, fresh cinematic perspective to historic events that have crowned Putin as the new blood-thirsty and power hungry Peter the Great on a blind, raging singular quest to regain Russia's empirical past glory. This gritty, tense laden portrayal of a dictator rising and homage to the extensive, brooding body of participation in the devil's work for a commendably lengthy time on the throne of a new interpretation of the Russian dystopian empire well into the 21st century would make any of the world's darkest figures in history proud. Any dictator would be publicly shaming but secretly admiring this portrayal of rise to the top of the Russian hellish, war drum machine. There will never be another Putin and this film certainly feeds the fascination of the drives that drove him to the most powerful adversarial seat against America. It's a wild, storied celebration of a maniacal feat and one of if not the largest accumulations of wealth in our lifetimes. This rise came from dark psychological drives, incredible fortune and the order of fear and loathing that is Russia and masterful maneuvering within that make Putin the Peter the Great of our time.

A visually striking and thought-provoking film that dares to challenge conventional narratives. Vega masterfully crafts a portrayal of Putin as a larger-than-life figure-an unstoppable force who dominates the screen with an almost mythical presence. The film leans into its edgy, hyper-stylized approach, painting Putin as a modern-day anti-hero with shades of John Wick. It's bold, unapologetic, and brimming with creative flair.
The soundtrack, while not including "Drive Forever," sets the tone for a gripping journey that explores power, perception, and the blurred lines between fiction and reality. Vega's audacious storytelling doesn't hold back, delivering a polarizing experience that's bound to spark conversations. Love it or hate it, this film is impossible to ignore.

As an American watching Putin, I was absolutely riveted. From the very first scene, the film grabs you and doesn't let go, unraveling the story of a man whose shadow looms over the world. It's a thriller in every sense, offering a front-row seat to the inner workings of power, fear, and ambition.
The film's pacing is relentless. Each chapter-whether it's Putin's troubled childhood, his rise through the KGB, or his calculated dealings in St. Petersburg-feels like a piece of a high-stakes puzzle. Watching his transformation into one of the most polarizing figures of our time had me on the edge of my seat.
What struck me most was the tension. The film builds a palpable sense of unease as it examines Putin's consolidation of power and his increasingly precarious grip on it. As someone from a country that values freedom and democracy, seeing how fear dominates Moscow was both chilling and fascinating.
The film doesn't just tell a story; it raises urgent questions about the world's future. Are we witnessing the twilight of a leader or the prelude to something far more dangerous? Putin is more than a film-it's an experience, a warning, and a must-watch for anyone who wants to understand the complexities of global politics today.

Like several other commentators point out, this movie is a rather investigative and nuanced portrait of Putin's political and personal life. A portrait, that doesn't confirm the simpleminded myth of Putin the Evil, we are fed with by our political leaders and mainstreammedia in the western hemisphere. But a portrait that shows some of the basic human in Putin and the basic conditions in geopolitics and Russia's approach to the solitaire of global power.
Hopefully this movie can contribute to a more nuanced and informed western perspective on one of our declared global enemies. But in itself 'Putin' is a quite entertaining and curious movie, which mostly provide leads, not simplified claims, to a broader understanding of Putin and the modern (russian) powerstructures.

Honestly a great story line right from the start plus excellent directing and locations. If you know anything of Putin's life, a superb great fictional biography. Too bad it didn't make what it should have. The actors were so well played with not only acting but hair make up and wardrobe made them almost AI lifelike quality

I just finished watching "Putin" by Patryk Vega, and I felt like I had to write something about it-even though I've never written a review before. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the film really surprised me in a good way.
What stood out the most was how real everything felt. They used some kind of AI technology to put Putin's face on the actor, and it looked so convincing. At times, I completely forgot I was watching an actor. The story itself was gripping-I didn't think I'd be that interested, but it kept me watching. It gives a deep look into Putin's life without feeling too complicated or over the top.
Visually, the film is stunning, and you can tell a lot of effort went into the details. The pacing was just right-never boring, always moving forward. I didn't think I'd enjoy it this much, but it turned out to be one of the most interesting movies I've seen in a while. Definitely worth watching.

A very interesting and well-made film that should primarily be understood as a psychological portrait, and only secondarily as a historical film. Putin is portrayed as an absolutely evil man who willingly chooses to descend step by step into the depths of wickedness to satisfy his great ambitions and sadistic disposition.
On another level, it is a religious film, as it shows, on the one hand, God, who always wants to bestow goodness and mercy upon humanity, and on the other hand, a man, who consistently rejects God to choose power and evil instead.
The AI technique used to create Putin's artificial face is highly impressive.
Finally, there are also interesting jabs, such as how the actions of certain pro-Russian politicians (e.g., Merkel or Tusk) helped Putin.

An uncompromising portrait of a violent tyrant with a thirst for power, who will stop at nothing to remove anything that stands in his way. Shot like a Mafia movie, we see this psychopath advance step by step to absolute power through betrayal, murder and manipulation. Even if half the events are real (and the film seems well documented), they would be enough to send him to prison for the rest of his life in any democracy... but this is Russia. The film may not be worth a 10, but it balances out a bit with the many 1 votes sent in by "people" who have never commented on any other film before this one.

This film, as many have noted, offers an investigative and nuanced look at Putin's political and personal life. It challenges the oversimplified narrative of "Putin the Evil" often pushed by Western leaders and mainstream media. Instead, it presents a more human side of Putin while exploring the complexities of geopolitics and Russia's role in global power dynamics.
Hopefully, it encourages a more informed and balanced perspective in the West about one of its most prominent adversaries. Beyond that, Putin is an engaging and thought-provoking watch, offering insights and questions rather than oversimplified conclusions about Putin and modern Russian power structures.

Patryk Vega's "Putin" is an interesting and thought-provoking film that looks at the life of Vladimir Putin in a different way. The movie explores the struggles between good and evil, showing the complex world of politics and power. It doesn't just paint Putin as a hero or a villain, but instead presents a more nuanced view of his rise to power and the decisions he has made.
The film does a great job of capturing the drama and tension surrounding Putin's leadership, focusing on loyalty, betrayal, and survival. The story keeps you engaged, and the way it's filmed makes you feel like you're part of the action.
If you're interested in politics or world history, I recommend giving "Putin" a watch. It's a movie that makes you think and leaves you with a chance to form your own opinion about the subject.

Not a bad film, which can be called the author's vision of the life path of a man who became a crazy fascist dictator. What led him to this state? His alter egos formed in different periods of his life run through the entire film: his childhood in the yard, his gangster-communist development, everything left its mark, haunting him, disfiguring his personality, which in the conditions of Russia, that is, in the conditions of absolute unlimited power, which the dictator does not even have to take, because the subjects themselves give it up, allows him to unfold in all his current fascist-mafia madness. Yes, the pictures of Russian life do not have reliable realism, but the authors did not strive for this, the film is symbolist, and those elements that make up the reality shown in the film all had and have a place to be, although they do not form a photorealistic image of historical reality.
