The upcoming spin-off anthology series will center around the romance between John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife fashion icon Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, and their life that tragically ended in a plane crash when the pair were only 38 and 33, respectively.

Ryan Murphy wants the Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy fashion fandom to know that he won’t disappoint them.

The television impresario faced fashionista backlash last week when he posted a first look of “American Love Story” stars Paul Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon in what appeared to be full wardrobe and makeup as John F. Kennedy Jr. and Bessette-Kennedy.

The Cut’s takedown of the images and videos blazed with the headline, “These Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Costumes Don’t Fit the Bill.” The accompanying essay trashed the looks as appearing to be fast-fashion knockoffs of Bessette-Kennedy’s high designer style. “I feel like I’m looking at Mango and Zara,” The Cut’s fashion news writer Danya Issawi wrote in part. “There is no life, there is no story, there is no familiarity with these pieces.”

Like many others, Issawi criticized the jeans, jacket and shoes Pidgeon was wearing as well as her accompanying Birkin.

For their time on set, Paul sported a black vest over a gray button-down shirt paired with jeans and brown boots while Sarah wore a silk, black dress with a black sweater tied around her waist.

With American Horror Story approaching lucky Season 13, Ryan Murphy is bringing one of his Og muses back to the FX anthology series.

The Golden Globe winner recently teased that frequent collaborator Sarah Paulson will make her return in some capacity to the horror show, after a fan asked if the 13th installment is still expected in 2025.

“Sarah Paulson and I are cooking up something cool!” wrote Murphy in the comments section of an Instagram post featuring first-look images from American Love Story.

In October, Paulson teased a “big chance that I will return” to AHS, raving on Good Morning America, “I’ve got everything crossed. I would like to do it more than anything. It’s my home. It’s where I started. … If I could be reunited with Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy, you can pretty much tell me what time I will be there, and I will be there.

The new series, which follows the love story between JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, will premiere during the week of Valentines Day next year, Ryan Murphy Productions announced in a Friday Instagram post.

The post also gave a first look at the stars of the FX series, Sarah Pidgeon, who stars as Carolyn, and Paul Kelly, who stars as John F. Kennedy Jr., during their camera tests.

“Over a thousand actors auditioned for each of these roles, and we absolutely found the perfect choices,” the post read. “Congratulations Sarah and Paul!”

In images post by the Ryan Murphy Productions Instagram account Friday, actors Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Kelly are in full costume and makeup to portray John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette for Murphy’s upcoming FX series “American Love Story.”

The show will FOllow the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Naomi Watts also stars as Jackie Kennedy.

Ryan Murphy's American Love Story has given him the opportunity to reunite with a major American Horror Story cast member. As the creator of American Horror Story, Murphy has produced several spinoffs from the anthology franchise, including American Horror Stories, American Crime Story, and American Sports Story. He also co-created a number of other TV shows, including 9-1-1, Doctor Odyssey, and Glee. Having told so many beloved stories, Murphy is now looking to turn his attention to adapting John F. Kennedy Jr.'s romantic life into the biographical American Love Story.

As the casting process continues, Deadline revealed that the series will allow Murphy to reunite with a former star. Grace Gummer, who starred in several American Horror Story seasons, is set to appear as Caroline Kennedy in the show. As JFK Jr.'s sister, Gummer should have a significant role in the series, as the last surviving child of President John F. Kennedy.

Three more actors have joined the cast of American Love Story.

Grace Gummer, Sydney Lemmon, and Alessandro Nivola will all have roles in the upcoming FX anthology series from Ryan Murphy, according to Deadline. The series will follow John F Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy‘s whirlwind romance. Grace will play Caroline Kennedy, Sydney will play Lauren Bessette, and Alessandro will play Calvin Klein.

Grace has worked with Ryan Murphy before, as she played the role of Penny in the fourth season of American Horror Story. Sydney played the central character of Ana in the Hulu series Helstrom, while Alessandro has had roles in films such as The Brutalist and Kraven the Hunter.

Now, the horror mastermind has set his next horror project at FX. It's titled The Shards, and some book lovers might already be familiar with the show's title.

The Shards is a series adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's 2023 horror novel of the same name. Most people know Ellis from his popular black comedy horror novel American Psycho, which was later turned into a feature film starring Christian Bale. Several of his other books have also been made into films like Less than Zero, The Rules of Attraction and The Informers. The Shards marks his fifth novel to be adapted into another medium, but instead of a movie, this time it's being developed as a television series.

After spending months in development for an HBO series that ultimately fell apart, FX and one of the biggest TV producers around in Ryan Murphy are in early development on an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ semi-autobiographical book, “The Shards,” an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire.

While it’s early days and there’s no writer attached just yet, the series adaptation does have Kaia Gerber meant to star and Max Winkler, who has worked on Murphy’s “American Horror Story,” “Monster,” and “Feud,” set to direct the pilot episode of the series.

20th Century Television is producing the series alongside Ryan Murphy Television. Executive producers are Murphy, Ellis, Winkler, Nick Hall, Kathleen McCaffrey, and Brian Young.

FX and 20th Century TV had no comment.

On Monday (May 19), it was revealed that the 59-year-old Emmy-winning producer and FX are developing a series adaption of Bret Easton Ellis‘ prep school thriller novel The Shards.

Kaia, 23, is attached to star in the series with Max Winkler attached to direct, according to Deadline.

Since the hit first season, eyes have been on any news about The Watcher season 2. Hopes for the season dim further with the latest casting news for another Ryan Murphy series.

Netflix renewed The Watcher for a second season back in November 2022, and since then, there have been crickets about the show. Both creator Murphy and star Naomi Watts have shared little news or hope for the second season, and that’s dimmed even more as Watts has been casted in another of Murphy’s shows, American Love Story.

Pop culture writer Evan Ross Katz on his Instagram page revealed Naomi Watts will play Jackie Kennedy and newcomer Paul Kelly will fill the role of her son, John F. Kennedy. Sarah Pidgeon was earlier announced to play Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

FX and 20th Television, where Murphy has an overall deal with Disney, declined comment on the casting news. American Love Story will chart the whirlwind courtship and marriage of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Bessette-Kennedy.

The latest Murphy anthology series will look to portray famous romances that captured global attention. John F. Kennedy Jr. and Bessette-Kennedy, who worked as a publicist at Calvin Klein, were considered American royalty during the 1990s.

But their celebrated love story and marriage began to wilt under the constant scrutiny of the tabloid media.

“American Love Story,” Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX series following the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, has found two of its major players: Naomi Watts will play Jackie Kennedy, while newcomer Paul Kelly leads the series as JFK Jr.

They join the cast alongside Sarah Pidgeon, who was previously announced to be playing Bessette-Kennedy.

The series will mark the fourth collaboration between Murphy and Watts. Most recently, in 2024, she played Babe Paley in “Capote vs. The Swans,” the second season of Murphy’s FX anthology series following historic celebrity rivalries. In 2022, she led Murphy’s Netflix horror series “The Watcher” opposite Bobby Cannavale, and next, she will appear in “All’s Fair,” Murphy’s upcoming Hulu legal drama starring Kim Kardashian.

Variety has learned from sources that Sarah Pidgeon has been cast in one of the lead roles for the upcoming anthology series, which was originally announced in 2021. As previously reported, the first season of the series will focus on John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. Pidgeon will star as Bessette.

After the cancellation of “9-1-1: Lone Star” at Fox, there’s a new series coming to Ryan Murphy’s emergency responder franchise: “9-1-1: Nashville,” set to premiere on ABC during the 2025-2026 season.

The news follows Variety‘s October report that a new “9-1-1” spinoff was in the works.

Though plot and casting details are yet to be shared, it can be assumed that the new “9-1-1” spinoff, like the flagship series and “Lone Star, will follow the work and personal lives of a team of first responders, this time in Tennessee.

“9-1-1” was created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear and premiered on Fox in 2018 before moving to ABC for its seventh season in 2024. Currently on its eighth season, the series is set in Los Angeles and stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi and Gavin McHugh.

Ryan Murphy has heard the questions about the naming conventions of his various FX series, but he doesn’t see the validity in them.

The TV mogul tells Deadline that he would “strongly disagree” with suggestions that Grotesquerie should have been under the American Horror Story banner, or that Aaron Hernandez’s story would’ve been better suited as a new installment of American Crime Story rather than the first in a new anthology series, American Sports Story.

“Grotesquerie has nothing in common with American Horror Story. It just does not. I think it’s the difference between doing Don’t Look Now and Halloween would could never have fit into that show. It was never considered for that. It’s a much different animal,” he said of the new horror series starring Niecy Nash, which revealed a huge turn in the story that Murphy and FX Chief John Landgraf also discussed with Deadline.

Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson’s Color Force, the studio behind FX’s “Pose,” “American Crime Story” and the upcoming “Say Nothing,” has renewed its producing deal with the network through 2027, which will mark 15 years of partnership.

The production company teamed up with FX back in 2012 when they struck a first-look deal following the success of “American Crime Story: The People V Oj Simpson.”

The partnership has gone on garner 26 Emmy wins and 66 nominations. Jacobson and Simpson have won two Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes, three TCA Awards, three Critics Choice Awards, two PGA Awards, three AFI Awards, two GLAAD Awards, as well as a BAFTA Award, an NAACP Award and a Peabody.

Color Force’s television slate and exclusive producing deal with FX will be overseen by its new TV division head Checka Propper.

The company has hired Checka Propper in the role. Propper joins from David E. Kelley Productions, where she was EVP, All Media.

This comes as the company has renewed its overall deal with FX for a further three. Year. The deal, which will run through 2027, will see Color Force stay in business with the Disney-owned network for 15 years.

At David E. Kelley Productions, Propper helped bring in Margo’s Got Money Troubles, which received a straight-to-series order from Apple. Before that, she was VP, Television at Doug Liman’s Hypnotic and began her career at Fox and MTV. Her credits including Peacock’s The Calling and YouTube’s Impulse.

Since The Watcher made its debut on Netflix in October 2022 and renewed for a second season one month later, fans of the mystery thriller series have been waiting for updates on season 2. Well, co-creator Ryan Murphy finally gave us the update we have been waiting for, but it's a little bit unclear. Actually, no, it's extremely unclear and not super promising.
