The standalone first film about the clawed mutant, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, was slammed by fans and critics. It turns out even Hugh Jackman, who portrayed Wolverine, was disappointed with the film.

In an interview with Collider in 2013, Hugh Jackman said that X-Men Origins had failed to meet his expectations. X-Men Origins: Wolverine chronicled the early life of James Logan (Jackman) and the army experiment that turned him into a mutant. The film, which grossed $373 million on a $150 million budget, was widely criticized for its sloppy script, scoring 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The live-action adaptation of the 2010 animated fantasy adventure How to Train Your Dragon received rave reviews from critics after its theatrical release around two months ago. The remake has grossed over $619 million worldwide, surpassing several 2025 titles, including Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Sinners, and 28 Years Later.

Recently, How to Train Your Dragon also outperformed past box office hits like Steven Spielberg’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale, and The Passion of the Christ, among others. And now, the film is just inches away from overtaking a widely acclaimed Marvel superhero movie. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is believed to have started pre-production in the UK this week, but we're still no closer to knowing for sure what the movie is about. A seemingly endless list of villains has been shared by social media scoopers (one of them has to be proven right eventually if they pick everyone), and we can now add two more to the list.

According to The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez, he’s seen concept art suggesting Viper and Silver Samurai will be the movie's main villains. Versions of both characters were paired up in 2013's The Wolverine, and the insider suggests Spidey will be joined by Shang-Chi.

However, we'd be remiss not to point out that Perez was firm in his belief that Spider-Man: Brand New Day would feature Venom and Knull shortly after the release of Venom: The Last Dance. So, take this with a pinch of salt.

The X-Men franchise launched in 2000 and was a game-changer in more ways than one. Not only did it kickstart Kevin Feige's Hollywood career, but it proved that superheroes could work on screen, ushering in the likes of Spider-Man and, eventually, Iron Man.

Following the Disney/Fox merger, Marvel Studios is tasked with rebooting the X-Men franchise, and that's obviously exciting for many reasons. However, 20th Century Fox did a lot wrong, and while the future is now looks bright, the past was full of mistakes.

Yet, perhaps his most iconic character, John Wick, is the most unlikely success story of them all. It was seen as an upstart indie flick which came close to going direct-to-video, only for it to become one of the most successful action franchises of all time, and a property that’s unlikely to die anytime soon, even if its own hero’s survival is kind of up in the air right now post John Wick 4. With Keanu Reeves reprising the role in Ballerina, now’s a good time to look back at how this little action franchise that could came to be.

Flashback to the fall of 2014. Keanu Reeves, while already a legend, was struggling to reinvent himself as a now middle-aged star.

Despite excellent reviews and a solid-enough debut a month ago, Marvel’s Thunderbolts* cratered in the subsequent weeks at the box office. Somewhat surprisingly, the movie is poised to fall short of even the low benchmark set by its immediate predecessor, Captain America: Brave New World. That movie struggled to pass the $200 million mark domestically and the $400 million mark worldwide — milestones that will likely elude Thunderbolts*, as it looks to conclude its theatrical run on a disappointing note.

With over $185 million domestically and another $188 million from overseas markets, the film’s cumulative global haul stands at $374 million so far. Produced on a reported budget of $180 million, which is on the lower end of the spectrum for a major Marvel movie, Thunderbolts* remains one of the lowest-grossing installments of the highest-grossing film franchise in history. It’s been almost one year since Deadpool & Wolverine sliced into theaters everywhere, and the film left its mark as one of the biggest accomplishments in MCU history. Not only did it gross well over $1 billion, but it also finally brought Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the MCU. One of the biggest surprises of the film comes in the first act, when Deadpool heads out into the multiverse to search for a version of Wolverine that can replace his, who died in Logan (2017). One of the variants he comes across is an Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, who immediately attacks Wade and sends him packing. Hot Toys has released a new figure of this Age of Apocalypse version of Wolverine, who has only ever been called Weapon X in this universe, that bears a terrifyingly uncanny resemblance to Jackman’s appearance in the film.

With Wolverine’s recent addition to Disney’s MCU, Hugh Jackman is navigating questions about the character’s onscreen future.

Following his return to the role (aka Logan) in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, the Oscar nominee recently assured he “actually” has no news about whether he’ll slip on the Adamantium claws once again for Avengers: Doomsday.

“I really can’t say much, except when you say ‘appear,’ more like dominate and destroy every other character—I’m kidding,” teased Jackman on The View. “I really have nothing to add, and if I did, I would find a really cool way to not say it, but I actually have nothing to add.”

Jackman made his debut as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, reprising the role in X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), The Wolverine (2013), Logan (2017) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).

There are a lot of exciting things happening in the MCU right now. The Thunderbolts* are currently saving the day on the big screen and The Fantastic Four are about to take their First Steps towards a larger threat this summer. However, one of the biggest pushes the universe has seen in recent years has been the introduction of Mutants and the X-Men family of characters. Last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine saw the return of Hugh Jackman's version of the famous X-Men. Now, before Fox’s X-Men assemble in Avengers: Doomsday, Wolverine is preparing for battle with his latest ferocious Funko Pop.

A part of Funko's Pop Comic Book Cover line, this figure is based on Marvel's Wolverine #17 from 1989. The cover saw Wolverine in his brown and yellow X-Men attire lunging towards the reader with his sharp claws out. The Pop does a fine jump emulating that intimidating pose.

After years of rumors, delays, and cancellations, the Gears of War movie has finally taken a bloody step in the right direction. Netflix is leading the action-heavy charge to bring the movie to life, and it's found one of the best action directors working today. Things are finally looking up for Marcus Fenix as Gears of War has none other than Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde, and The Fall Guy director, David Leitch.

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that David Leitch is in talks to direct Netflix's upcoming Gears of War adaptation. Leitch will produce the movie along with his wife and producing partner, Kelly McCormick, under their 87North banner. Action fans know how strong the 87North reputation is after films like the John Wick franchise, The Wolverine, and Bullet Train, so for Gears of War to get the 87 treatment is exciting news. The movie also has a tremendous writer behind it.

Ryusuke Hamaguchi, the director of the Oscar-winning “Drive My Car” and his most recent film “Evil Does Not Exist,” will head from Japan to Paris for his next feature titled “All of the Sudden.”

Hamaguchi is currently in Paris prepping the film based on a script he co-wrote with Léa Le Dimna, according to a report in Variety. And the film is set to star French-Belgian actress Virginie Efira (“Benedetta”) and Japanese actress Tao Okamoto (“The Wolverine”). The film will shoot primarily in Paris.

“All of the Sudden” is loosely based on a published collection of real-life letters by philosopher Makiko Miyano, who wrote two books after being diagnosed with months to live as a result of breast cancer, and exchanged letters with an anthropologist. The film will follow the bond between two women, one a Japanese theater director and the other a French head of a nursing home.

Japanese filmmaker Ryusuke Hamaguchi made huge waves with his fantastic drama “Drive My Car,” which landed an Oscar for Best International Feature Film, and the director is now setting up his next feature, “All of The Sudden.” Poised to be shot in Paris, France, with actresses Virginie Efira (“Benedetta”) and Tao Okamoto (“The Wolverine”) set for leading roles.

The new drama revealed by Variety revolves around the bond between two women, a Japanese theater director (Okamoto) and a French nurse (Efria), that will delve into subject matter such as illness and death as the two women share extensively personal details of their lives.

“Drive My Car”s Oscar-winning director Ryusuke Hamaguchi is set to make his next film, “All of a Sudden,” in Paris with a glamorous female duo led by Virginie Efira (“Benedetta”) and Tao Okamoto (“The Wolverine”).

Hamaguchi, who is currently in Paris preparing for the movie, penned the script with Léa Le Dimna, loosely inspired by a collection of real-life exchanged letters published in the book “You and I – The Illness Suddenly Get Worse,” by Makiko Miyano and Maho Isono.

“All of a Sudden” is produced by David Gauquié, Julien Deris, Jean-Luc Ormières, Renan Artukmaç at Paris-based Cinefrance Studios; Hiroko Matsuda, Kosuke Oshida, Yuji Sadai at Japan’s Office Shirous & Bitters End; Bettina Brokemper at Germany’s Heimatfilm; and Joseph Rouschop at Belgium’s Tarantula. Diaphana, who handled Hamaguchi’s last three movies, will release “All of a Sudden” in France, while Bitters End will distribute it in Japan.

Hugh Jackman called out his Deadpool & Wolverine costar and best-buddy Ryan Reynolds during his show at Radio City Music Hall, New York, where he is currently performing his stage show, From New York, With Love. While there is no bad feeling between the pair of friends, Jackman revealed his one big issue with being left out of one particular scene of Marvel’s 2024 box office juggernaut.

Jackman returned to his role as Wolverine seven years after believing he had played him for the last time in Logan back in 2017. The film did exactly what it needed to in providing an unapologetic, brutal, fan-serving, loud, brash, violent feast of a movie that took off on its debut and refused to die – just like its two titular characters.

Vincent D'Onoforio is best known for his role as Kingpin within Marvel television. He's been the antithesis to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the Netflix series Daredevil and the Disney+ original series Daredevil: Born Again. D'Onofrio has also appeared as Kingpin in The Punisher, Hawkeye, and Echo. His acting as the Kingpin and the physical presence as well as the emotional depth he brings to the character has been praised by both fans and critics.

Today on X, Vincent D’Onoforio was asked if there was a character other than Wilson Fisk that he would like to play. He very simply replied “Swamp thing”.

Having completed two months in theaters worldwide, Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World is nearing the end of its run. It'll soon debut on digital, where new audiences will hopefully be able to check it out. Not too many people, relatively speaking, showed up to watch the film in theaters. Brave New World remains one of the lowest-grossing installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — the biggest film franchise in global box office history. That being said, it passed a couple of landmark superhero movies on its way out.

With $413 million in the bank so far at the global box office, Brave New World has now overtaken the $412 million lifetime global haul of Tim Burton's Batman, which set records during its original run in 1989. The world of the Marvel Universe is highly intriguing, for it is filled with incredible characters, unbelievable locations, ruthless villains, and extraordinary tech. It also has fictional metals that have led to whole discourses and debates about them. Among these many metals, few are as legendary and hotly debated as adamantium and vibranium.

Both existing in the Marvel Universe, these metals have long captivated fans for decades due to their extraordinary properties and unique applications. While adamantium is famously associated with Wolverine’s indestructible claws and skeleton, vibranium is the core element of Captain America’s iconic red, blue, and white shield and the reason for Wakanda’s technological advancements. Even though both metals are unique and important in their own special ways, the question of which metal is superior has sparked intense discussions among Marvelholics for decades.

Now that the cast has been announced for "Avengers: Doomsday," you've gotta wonder if "X-Men: Doomsday" would be the better title. It's not just Doctor Doom making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the next "Avengers" film, it's also a certain merry band of mutant heroes. The X-Men are all going to be played by their actors from the 20th Century Fox films, including Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier.

We should've seen this coming. Every gesture the McU's Multiverse Saga made towards the X-Men brought back the Fox actors. Sir Stewart even played a variant of Xavier in 2022's "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness." Stewart didn't actually enjoy filming the "Doctor Strange" cameo, but he's back for more! That Xavier wasn't the precise iteration from previous films, but he did quote himself from the movie "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

Patrick Stewart will be back in one of his greatest, most famous roles. But it’s not Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a Star Trek production--at least not yet. Fans are still holding out hope that Stewart will play Picard again in some sort of follow-up to Star Trek: Picard, which ran for three seasons and ended, believe it or not, nearly two years ago already… on April 20, 2023.

So, what role will Stewart return to? That would be Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, or iterations of him. Stewart is on board for the upcoming Marvel Studios megamovie Avengers: Doomsday. This comes after Stewart appeared in X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins, Wolverine, The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Logan, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He also voiced Xavier for several X-Men videogames.

It had already been announced that Robert Downey Jr. would play Doctor Doom.

Max is set to receive one of the greatest comic book movies ever made, at least according to Ryan Reynolds. The X-Men spinoff movie Logan is slated to hit the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streaming service at the start of April.

Beginning April 1, Max subscribers will be able to stream 2017's Logan, the third and final installment in 20th Century Fox's solo Wolverine trilogy. Before Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart respectively returned as variants of Wolverine and Professor X in Deadpool & Wolverine and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the 2017 X-Men spinoff was set to serve as the swan songs for both of the characters. We found out last week that a new take on Stephen King's killer dog novel, Cujo, is in the works for Netflix, and the project may have nabbed a somewhat surprising director.

According to Jeff Sneider in his latest newsletter (and since backed up by THR), Darren Aronofsky is in negotiations to helm the movie.

Though some would consider this the filmmaker's first foray into the horror genre, that's certainly debatable. Aronofsky has included horror elements in a number of his previous films, and many would view the likes of Mother!, Black Swan, and even Requiem for a Dream to be full-on horror movies.

King's novel focuses on a mother and her young seizer-prone son being terrorized by a huge St. Bernard who becomes a rabid killing machine after being bitten by a bat.

There have been rumblings of a remake of the classic Stephen King adaptation Cujo for a long time – in fact, one was officially announced way back in 2013. In 2015, we heard that the remake had taken an unexpected turn, reimagining the name Cujo as an acronym that stood for Canine Unit Joint Operations. That project seemed to be scrapped when King got the rights to the story back in 2017… But last week, we learned that the Cujo remake has found a new home: the Netflix streaming service. And now, industry scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reports that a director might be close to signing on to the project, as Darren Aronofsky is said to be in negotiations to take the helm.

Aronofsky’s previous directorial efforts include Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, Black Swan, Noah, mother!, and The Whale.

Our motormouth, Deadpool, has been a skilled fighter, a lover, and silly, sort of. But then visiting Logan's grave in hopes that he can actually resurrect that angry mutant with adamantium claws is just pure plain ridiculous. Bringing actors who played dead characters back isn't an issue for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) now that the multiverse is here, but then this scene wasn't needed.

The beginning of Deadpool & Wolverine sees Wade Wilson trying to dig up Wolverine's grave as he thinks he is the anchor being of his earth. Without him, all will be lost. So he pulls Logan - or whatever was left of him after 2017's Logan - out of the grave and has a final chat before soldiers from the Time Variance Authority (Tva) arrive.

Now it is understandable that he was afraid that he might lose his world, but visiting Logan doesn't make sense. Especially...

Reacher season 3 is drawing a lot of attention with this season’s lineup of formidable antagonists. Among them, Pauline is the most highlighted antagonist character because of his size, which clearly surpasses the protagonist Jack Reacher. But Pauline is not the only villain in this series. There is a looming presence of a mysterious man called Francis Xavier Quinn whose association with the events of the plot is undeniable.

Although Quinn is not present in the first three episodes of Reacher season 3, he emerges as the most deceitful villain that Reacher has faced. He is a ruthless and cunning character who is playing chess with Reacher, making him a true adversary who can challenge Reacher intellectually.

"Reacher" Season 3 has received a lot of advance attention for its antagonist game. However, much of it has been directed at the hulking Paulie (Olivier Richters), whose gigantic frame makes even Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) look puny in comparison. While this is understandable from a visual standpoint, it's worth noting that Paulie is far from the only villain in the mix. Rug purveyor Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall) seems to be up to very little good, and the looming presence of an ominous man called Francis Xavier Quinn is also hovering above the events.

While Quinn is largely absent from the show's first three episodes, he's heavily telegraphed to be the most devious villain Reacher has faced yet. The actor who's tasked with portraying the character is none other than Brian Tee, who happens to have plenty of experience in all levels...

“Reacher” is back.

Based on the book series by Lee Child, the Prime Video series once again finds our titular hero (Alan Ritchson) getting off the bus and getting into trouble. This time he is in Maine, recruited by local DEA agents looking to bust a bad guy – and get back an informant who has gone missing. And wouldn’t you know it, this seemingly random encounter ties back to a case from Reacher’s past?

Exclusive: Veteran film producer and former 20th Century Fox Vice-Chairman Hutch Parker has signed a producing deal with Sony Pictures under his eponymous production banner Hutch Parker Entertainment with President/Partner Dan Wilson.

Exclaimed Sanford Panitch, President of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group to Deadline, “Hutch Parker is a 360-degree producer. He has great instincts in finding substantive commercially interesting stories, possesses excellent talent relationships, and when it comes to actually making a movie there is no better Special Forces-level manager than Hutch to oversee the most challenging productions. Tom, Josh, and I are thrilled to continue our association with Hutch and Dan with this new deal.”

The new deal follows the October release of Venom: The Last Dance, which was produced by Hutch Parker Entertainment and minted north of $478 million at the global box office, shooting Sony’s franchise to more than $1.8 billion worldwide.

The Odyssey cast continues to expand. Joining leads Matt Damon and Tom Holland in the upcoming Christopher Nolan movie are Jesse Garcia and Will Yun Lee.

Deadline was the first to report their casting in the movie. Both Garcia and Lee's roles remain under wraps. They join an all-star ensemble that includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, and Charlize Theron, as well as Himesh Patel, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, and Samantha Morton. Production on The Odyssey is expected to start in February 2025, with filming taking place in the United Kingdom, Morocco, and throughout the Aeolian Islands in Sicily, Italy. The movie will reportedly have an estimated production budget of $250 million, making it Nolan's third feature to carry a budget exceeding $200 million after Tenet ($200M) and The Dark Knight Rises ($250M).

Exclusive: Jesse Garcia and Will Yun Lee have joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey from Universal, sources close to production tell Deadline. Their roles are under wraps.

Nolan’s mythic action epic, shot with new Imax cameras, is based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer which follows Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The classic explores themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning and the struggle against divine will. The tale includes iconic stories like Odysseus’ encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and the witch-goddess Circe, culminating in a reunion with his wife Penelope.

James Mangold misses the era when movies weren’t embarrassed to make audiences feel something. The director of the Bob Dylan musical biopic “A Complete Unknown” and comic book adaptation “Logan” believes there’s a growing hostility to films that wear “their hearts on their sleeve.”

“Most of my generation, my peers, have been generally fascinated by irony or detachment. I never felt completely at home in that idiom because I felt those [films] were cool and clever, but not necessarily moving,” the newly minted Oscar nominee said at Sundance’s annual gala on Friday night, where he was feted with the second-ever Trailblazer Award (the first was bestowed to Christoper Nolan in 2024). “Movies that put their feelings on the line, the way we talk about them and use words like melodramatic or chewing the scenery or too much, we kill some of the fearlessness [of directors].”
