Nicole Kidman played a quiet but crucial part in what became Joaquin Phoenix’s real beginning in the film. When he landed a role opposite her in To Die For in 1995, few outside the industry realized how much was riding on it for him.

At that point, Phoenix had been out of the game for a while, carrying the weight of his brother River’s death. It was a memory that burned deep into him since Halloween night of 1993, when River collapsed outside the Viper Room due to a drug overdose and never got back up. Michael B. Jordan may only be 38 years old, but he has been acting for over two decades already. He got his start as a child actor playing one-off roles in TV shows like The Sopranos. His teenage and young adult years then included parts in shows like The Wire, Friday Night Lights, and Parenthood.

In the 2010s, Jordan made a pivot into more film acting. One huge driver of this change was a 2013 independent film called Fruitvale Station. This movie got rave reviews and helped put Jordan on the map as a more serious actor.

Veteran character actor Joe Marinelli, who played the cross-dressing mobster Bunny Tagliatti in 171 episodes of NBC soap opera Santa Barbara, died Sunday. He was 68 years old.

His death, which was caused by a battle with stomach cancer, was confirmed by his wife Jean Marinelli to THR.

Joe Marinelli, an actor who had roles on TV shows like “General Hospital,” “Santa Barbara” and “The Morning Show,” died Sunday. He was 68.

Marinelli’s friend, Leigh J. McCloskey, confirmed the death on Facebook. “I knew Joe was sick and so admired his indefatigable spirit throughout what sounded like a very difficult, if not impossible, ordeal. Joe was a champion,” McCloskey wrote.

Marinelli was born in Connecticut and studied at Loyola Marymount University and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. His early acting gigs included roles on shows like “Cagney & Lacey,” “L.A. Law” and “Hill Street Blues.”

His larger TV roles included playing Bunny Tagliatti in “Santa Barbara,” Jospeh Sorel on “General Hospital” and Donny Spagnoli in “The Morning Show.” Additionally, he had smaller appearances across several major series like “The West Wing,” “House,” “Parenthood,” “Victorious,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “The Offer.” Marinelli also appeared in the...

Bryce Dallas Howard may be known for her roles in three Jurassic Worldmovies and the 2011 film The Help, but in 2004, she starred alongside a future Oscar winner in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village. Jake Borelli, best known for playing Dr. Levi Schmitt on “Grey’s Anatomy,” is moving behind the camera and making his directorial debut on “Ignis.”

Described as a “genre-bending relationship drama,” the film stars Britt Baron (“Glow”), Allen Leech (“Downton Abbey”) and Karan Soni (“A Nice Indian Boy”). “Ignis” recently wrapped production in Los Angeles.

The film was written and co-produced by Tony Award-winning producer Julie Cohn (“Stereophonic”), who also wrote the popular podcast “The Redefector.” It follows Camille, a woman who begins to question her relationship after discovering that her fiancé may have taken a pill designed to chemically induce romantic love.

The American Cinematheque is set to give its top honor to Michael B. Jordan.

Jordan as an actor, director and producer will be honored with the 39th American Cinematheque Award on Nov. 20 during a gala ceremony in Beverly Hills. Given its title, you might expect the new Max streaming series Duster to race along at a fast and furious pace. However, while it’s not adrenaline-fueled, it delivers a healthy dose of grit, charm, and steady tension, making it a ride worth every mile.

Much of that credit goes to the two charismatic leads: one, rediscovering the magic that made him a star nearly two decades ago; the other, a young actress finally taking center stage with a breakout performance. Duster is cool, sexy, and enthralling, though it takes a few too many episodes to work out most of its kinks.

NBC has picked up freshman drama series The Hunting Party, starring Melissa Roxburgh, and Brilliant Minds, headlined by Zachary Quinto, for a second season. Both are part of the network’s September-October fall schedule unveiled today. Brilliant Minds, from Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Prods, is staying in the post-The Voice Monday 10 Pm slot while The Hunting Party, from Universal Television, is moving to Thursdays 10 Pm.

Besides the five Dick Wolf series, The Hunting Party and Brilliant Minds are the only other current NBC series to make it to next season amid a bloodbath at the broadcast network which canceled a slew of scripted series in anticipation of NBA’s arrival on the schedule next fall.

This is a changing of the guard in NBC’s scripted lineup as all four non-Wolf returning scripted series are from this season’s freshman class, The Hunting Party, Brilliant Minds and comedies St.

Morgan, on the other hand, is known for writing for shows like Parenthood, Shameless, Into the Badlands and The Walking Dead. With these two talented creatives at the helm, I'd say Duster is in very capable hands.

I didn’t think I’d ever be into ranch dramas, and then Yellowstone rode in, courtesy of Taylor Sheridan. Moral ambiguity, land and conquest, family dynamics and power struggles, betrayal. For someone who’s a certified simp for Game of Thrones, I loved Yellowstone. But then Netflix dropped Ransom Canyon, and folks, I’m questioning all my life choices. I can’t pay my money for this now.

Where Yellowstone gave me GoT–level stuff, Ransom Canyon delivers Hallmark vibes in cowboy boots and not the good kind. It’s way too sanitized for a genre built on grit and grime. If this is Netflix’s answer to Yellowstone, in true Barbara Corcoran style, I’m out.

CBS is adding to its roster of new series for the 2025-26 season, giving series orders to two pilots: a drama titled Einstein and a comedy called Dmv.

Einstein, from Monk creator Andy Breckman, stars Criminal Minds alum Matthew Gray Gubler as the title character, alongside Rosa Salazar. Dmv, a single-camera comedy set at a motor vehicle office, is led by Harriet Dyer and Tim Meadows. Both shows come from CBS Studios.

The two series orders are the first from CBS’ crop of development projects this season. They join fellow newcomers Sheriff Country, which the network ordered last year, and straight-to-series pickups Boston Blue and CIA. All three of the previous orders are offshoots of current or recently ended CBS shows — Fire Country, Blue Bloods and FBI, respectively.

Along with the series orders, CBS also announced that it has canceled its comedy Poppa’s House and competition show The Summit, both after a single season.

The Eye network has handed a series order to Einstein, a new procedural headlined by the Criminal Minds vet. Additionally, CBS has greenlit the single-camera comedy Dmv, which stars Colin From Accounts standout Harriet Dyer.

In a recent interview, Dax said that the was “among the lowest” paid actors on Parenthood because he never asked his co-stars what they were earning.
