I've personally watch animations and this drama. Both are good. Initially I'm worried that this will spoil the animations but it turn out very good. Some people rated 1star must be hater which cannot be trustes. Go and have a look/watch it youself. The special effects is good and above my expectations. The acting skill is good too. We have to be realistic as real life is not like animations. No matter how good the special effects can do there is still limitation compare to animation where what you draw and imagine can be done. We have to be realistic. Overall the storyline modification vs animation is acceptable as we cannot be doing all hundred over episode animation drama in 40 episode. So the slight change on story is acceptable and understandable.
I'm a fan of the novel and I find this adaptation a perfect complement to it. The drama both follows the original story and introduces some changes when it has to which in my opinion works very well. I really like the vision of Douluo Continent and its specific style. It's not the usual, bombastic and colorful wuxia drama, it's more a down-to-earth story about people with special powers yet with the regular human feelings and motivations. This adaptation has very good casting. Xiao Zhan as Tang Sang, Kenny Bee as his father and Calvin Chen as the Master are the perfect matches for these roles. Special effects are the icing on the cake. It all creates a very gripping drama with beautiful landscapes, amazing special effects, interesting story and fantastic actors. No wonder the author of Douluo Continent novel was himself very satisfied with this adaptation.
First I am not fan from book, manhua, or donghua. So I am pure drama fan. This drama is really good, from acting, direction, and special effects. It will become my bottomline for chinese fantasy drama next.
The story is little confusing and dragging the first 5 episodes if you never watch/read other adaptation, but the more story grow and the characters evolved the more interesting it become. If you like avengers you can considered it china avengers. But seriously try to watch and persistent until you reach 7 episode you will be hooked by story, characters, direction and most importantly special effects.
I am currently watching Douluo Continent and I am loving it! I didn't read the novel, nor watched the anime on purpose, because I didn't want to build up expectations, and as a fresh viewer I am liking the drama so so much - it's cheerful, funny and positive, and exactly my favorite kind of fantasy. The cast is great, Xiao Zhan is both super gorgeous and very convincing as smart, capable, kind and brave Tang San. :) I really love his character, the way he's keeping low-key, while being true bad-ass, the way he is nice and good, but not a pushover, but brave, strong-minded and principled. I like the main female character too, she's cute and bubbly, but very good at taking care of herself, a total oposite of usual damsel in distress, and I love it :) I like the story so far, it is intriguing, pulls you in and you can't wait for more, so I am really excited about it. As for the cgi - it depends, some are awesome (like purple demon eyes and soul powers), some not so much (like the spider monster), but too me it is more than passable and honestly, as a fan of fantasy dramas, I am used to it. It also occured to me that monsters could have been done like that on purpose, not to look too real, since it is aired on national TV at noon, when kids are watching, so I guess if monsters looked too real that could have been a problem with younger audiences... I love that Xiao Zhan did his own dubbing, but the sound overall (not just for him) isn't the best, I think that sound management could have been a little better, but it is not too distracting. Overall, it's interesting, funny and beautiful, and I enjoy it so much, I hope novel and anime fans will give it a chance and have understanding for the necessary changes. Afterall, the novel writer himself participated in development of the drama and was satisfied with the results, that should be telling enough. And, after the drama is over, I will definitely read the novel and watch the anime too :)
I have seen now more than half of the episodes of this series, and I have enjoyed it a lot! It's good story with both emotional and funny moments and a very likable group of characters, and at the end of every episode you look forward to starting the next episode.
The show has a natural and realistic look, including sets and costumes, and for the low budget that they had they made it work. It's a good visible seperation also to the animated series and helps to establish it as it's own work with its own strengths. Nevertheless is the CGI great, the camera work is also well done, and both support the action scenes and make them fun to watch! The music is beautiful and supports the atmosphere of each scene successfully.
The story itself is well paced and the episodes develop the plot smoothly. Exposition moments to explain the world are usually well placed and kept as few as possible. The characters are very endearing and convincing, and fortuantely all get some time for development. Xiao Zhan is doing a great job in portraying Tang San as good hearted young man, who is supportive and caring, yet firece when it comes to protecting his loved ones. I like Wu Xuanyi as Xiao Wu as well, she is funny and adorable.
I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the series!
