Val Chmerkovskiy Admits Having a Formerly Paralyzed DWTS Partner Is a 'Major Challenge' but He's 'Grateful for It'
Eric Roberts, Tori Spelling, Reginald VelJohnson, Alfonso Ribeiro, Anna Delvey Sorokin, Joey Graziadei, Ilona Maher, Jenn Tran, Stephen Nedoroscik, Dwight Howard, Julianne Hough, Phaedra Parks, Chandler Kinney, Danny Amendola, and Brooks Nader in Dancing with the Stars (2005)
When Valentin Chmerkovskiy found out his Dancing with the Stars season 25 partner was Victoria Arlen, an Espn personality who was paralyzed for almost four years, he had a lot of questions about how her recovery would factor into their rehearsals.

“She can’t feel her legs and feet,” Chmerkovskiy, 31, told People after Monday’s premiere episode.

“Minor details,” joked Arlen, 22.

But Arlen — who was 11 when she was diagnosed with a neurological condition and an autoimmune disease, which affected her spinal cord and left her in a vegetative state for four years — has only been walking again for less than two...

Top 15 Movies of This Past Year: Do Audiences Really Want Original, Quality Stories?
Top box office movies of 2013: If you make original, quality films… (photo: Sandra Bullock has two movies among the top 15 box office hits of 2013; Bullock is seen here in ‘The Heat,’ with Melissa McCarthy) (See previous post: “2013 Box Office Record? History is Remade If a Few ‘Minor Details’ Ignored.”) As further evidence that moviegoers want original, quality entertainment, below you’ll find a list of the top 15 movies at the domestic box office in 2013 — nine of which are sequels or reboots (ten if you include Oz the Great and Powerful), and more than half of which are 3D releases. Disney and Warner Bros. were the two top studios in 2013. Disney has five movies among the top 15; Warners has three. With the exception of the sleeper blockbuster Gravity, which, however dumbed down, targeted a more mature audience, every single one of the titles below were aimed either at teenagers/very,...

'Prisoners' (2013) Movie Review
Your child has been kidnapped and a suspect has been brought in for questioning. His battered Rv was parked in your neighborhood around the same time your 6-year-old daughter went missing. After a couple of days, several rounds of questioning and a lie detector test it's determined he wasn't involved and is released. No other suspects exist, your girl is still missing and your spouse is a blubbering mess. What do you doc Prepare for dark territory with Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners, a film where one father offers his response to the question above as an increasingly mysterious case surrounding his daughter's disappearance unfolds. In terms of tone, Prisoners is operating on the same dark level as David Fincher's Zodiac and Roger Deakins delivers some of the best cinematography of his career, turning something as trivial as a car coming to a curbside stop into a foreboding dolly shot.

6 Minor Details That Will Help Make Star Wars: Episode VII Not Suck
Hey, did you hear they’re making a new Star Wars movie? If you just spit Mountain Dew all over your computer screen, you either just got back from an expedition to Antarctica, in which case good for you; or you’ve been in a coma, which from what I understand can be caused by drinking too much Mountain Dew. Turns out there is such a thing as too X-treme. Lay off the Dew.

Right now you’re probably thinking the last thing anybody needs is another article about what they need to do to make the new Star Wars movie good. It’s well-tread ground, no doubt. And a lot of great points have already been made. Everyone agrees that the new movies need to be character-driven, that they should use as many practical effects and real-life locations as possible and not rely to heavily on CGI. The dialog should be witty,...

"Mistresses" promises plenty of Dirty Little (Lesbian) Secrets
Tags: MistressesIMDbhomowreckersTwitterJes Macallan

Back in January, Trish Bendix wrote a piece on the UK series Mistresses becoming a Us series, which will star Alyssa Milano, Yunjin Kim and Rochelle Aytes (who I previously had never heard of but is supremely attractive). Trish got the inside scoop on the character Josslyn, played by Jes Macallan, who will eventually find herself with a lady lover.

Josslyn's character is described as "free-spirited and capricious" and in half of the promo shots on ABC's website, she's wearing a tiara, so I like her already.

I won't lie, when I first heard there would be a queer relationship on this show, I was rooting for it to be Alyssa Milano's character, Savannah. Alas, it's her younger sister. Josslyn seems sassy and fun, though, so it should be interesting to watch her develop feelings for another woman — and, true to the title of the show,...

‘Star Trek 2′: Shooting Begins in La, Plus: Damon Lindelof, Bruce Greenwood, and Benedict Cumberbatch Talk
Star Trek: Vers les ténèbres (2013)
[1] Well, it's about time. Two and a half years after the release of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, cameras are finally rolling on Star Trek 2, which is due out May 17, 2013. Returning cast and crew members reconvened and welcomed new stars last week as principal photography began in Los Angeles, kicking off several months of shooting in various locations around the county. After the jump: Minor details on shooting locations are revealed Roberto Orci hints at an upgrade to the engineering room Damon Lindelof and Bruce Greenwood get really excited about Star Trek 2 Is Benedict Cumberbatch really playing a villain? Like the 2009 film, which featured Dodger Stadium, Long Beach City Hall, and Vasquez Rocks Natural Park among other local sites, Star Trek 2 will travel all around Los Angeles County for its shoot. The La Times [2] reports that much of Star Trek 2 will be shot on a sound stage at Sony Pictures Entertainment,...

Mouse House: Beauty and the Beast 3D Review
There’s a simple scene in this acclaimed, masterful piece of film when free-spirited, purely confident Belle (voiced by magnificent Broadway star Paige O’Hara) says to her beastly captor, “Thank you… for saving my life,” after he saves her from a pack of vicious wolves. This typical line in any other movie may have you roll your eyes or sigh, but the chemistry and sincerity between these two characters feels so real, so human, that you forget you’re watching drawings come to life. Moments like this confirm my belief that Beauty and the Beast is not only one of the best animated films ever created, but also one of the most lovely romances put to screen. Those may sound like overblown statements, but after watching this film countless times – and now in an additional dimension – I never fail to be amazed by how well-rounded and powerful Beast is through and through.

Grimm Review: Death by Flash Mob!
"Beeware" of social media! It’s what all the Killer Bees are using now.

All lame jokes and flash mobs aside, this episode did provide some much-needed conspiracy that was absent last week, shedding some light on Adalind and Captain Renard. Although, I wish a little more was laid out than what we saw here.

I hate to sound choosy because I’m truly glad the mythology and ground work needed to make the show more than just a procedural are being built up, but “I won’t let anything happen to you” and “it’s close” is not very much to go with. Yes, it looks like some of the creatures are with the Grimms (whatever that is), and the bees are one of them.

However, the only thing these “sides” are telling me is there is a line in the sand, but the stakes and what’s being...
