The Night Before Christmas

Are there ever enough good Christmas movies?? It's what the month of December is devoted to, and this is no exception! One of my favorites to this day. When i was younger, my parents would always put this on as we got close to THE NIGHT before Christmas, and it became a staple of the holidays in our house. Great film, worth the watch, year after year!

Despite what most people believe, this movie originally released in 1994, NOT 2016. My brother and I watched it every Christmas Eve growing up until we were like 12 and 14. It's hands down one of my favorites and I'm so glad it's on Amazon Prime to stream.

Shoutout to lesser known animated Christmas movies.

I Have Reviewed OVER 500 "Christmas Films and Specials". Please BEWARE Of films and specials with just one review! For instance When "It's a POSITIVE" chances are that the reviewer was involved with the production. "If its Negative" then they may have a grudge against the film for whatever reason. I am fare about these films.

Poorly made adaption! There is plenty of other versions out there that are much better. This film is a chore to finish. However I do like the fact that the film has a message about discarding things.

How unfortunate such a poor cartoon can figure so strongly in the sentimental memories of adults who saw this throughout the'90s. Unlike many other quickly produced holiday tv specials, such as A Charlie Brown Christmas which is also poorly drawn and animated, this one has nothing whatsoever to recommend it: acting, music, story, nothing.

While not among my top 3 from Golden Films like Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid and Pinocchio, The Night Before Christmas is definitely in my top 5 along with Three Musketeers. The animation is mostly colourful and fluid with some of the better character designs of the Golden Film animation. The classical music choices are lovely as ever, the use of the Carmen En'Tracte and the Air on the G String were very touching in particular, while the song of the toys has be one of the catchiest songs of any of Golden Films' resume, every time I hear that song or watch this I hum that song all the time. The script is sweet and well-meaning while never resorting to preaching or cloying sentimentality, while the story is heart-warming and really puts you in the Christmas spirit. The characters are all engaging, Santa is suitably jovial and Jeffrey is a likable protagonist. The mouse I also find amusing. The voice acting is solid. All in all, a lovely Christmas cracker, not my favourite Christmas film/special of all time but one I have great fondness for. 9/10 Bethany Cox
