Stimulates your baby's mind while turning yours to mush!

For those who haven't seen then, the Baby Einstein movies are a series of short (~30 minute) films that show worldly things from a baby's perspective (each film has a different topic). If you think Barney gets annoying after repeated viewings, these films will literally turn your adult brain to mush. That being said, the Baby Einstein films are like crack for my 18 month old -- I literally cannot get his attention or drag him away from the television when they are on. The Baby Einstein company has tapped into "what babies want" apparently and give it to them in half hour doses. These films are great if you need something for your kiddo to watch while you get ready for work in the morning.

Baby Neptune, one of the newest Baby Einstein videos, focuses on water, and the places a baby might encounter it. Starting with the ocean, then working through lakes, rivers, ponds, and eventually to water in the home (sprinklers and water hoses), the film mixes actual footage of water and fish with other presentations (puppets and toys).

It's hard to tell whether or not my kid "likes" it, only whether or not he'll sit through the whole thing. He seems to enjoy the Baby Beethoven one better (focusing on music), but definitely likes this one more than Baby Shakespeare, which focuses on language. The kids learn while watching, and as I mentioned the films are really written from a child's point of view -- no complicated plots, just lots of imagery and funny sound effects.

I'm guilt free about letting my kid sit in front of the television for half an hour watching these programs.

Baby's Favorite out of all the Baby Einstein Videos

The suggested age is 9 months and up, but my little one has been enjoying the video from age 4 months. She's enjoyed Baby Neptune more than Baby Mozart, and Baby Mozart is 0+ age. She just loves the water and the kids in the video. I enjoy the video as well. It has good music and watching the water in the ocean and on the beach is relaxing. Watching the video gives mom and/or dad 20 to 30 minutes of relaxing time, especially if they have a colicky baby. I'd definitely recommend Baby Neptune out of all the Baby Einstein videos, probably followed by Baby Mozart as a second pick and Baby Van Gogh as a third pick. Though my nephew loves On The Go the most. If you don't want to spend money on Baby Einstein videos (really having more than one is probably for the parents to have some variety-I think the babies could probably watch the same video over and over and not care), then buy them used on ebay or in a baby consignment shop.

    Water, water everywhere!

I don't know what it is about water and babies but they can't seem to get enough of it. Well worry no more because this Baby Einstein DVD has enough water to keep even the loudest baby quite.

All of the Einstein DVDs follow themes and this one is a lovely title. You get to see a selection of real life images with great music. However be warned, for an adult this can get very very boring after a short while.

I have 2 children (3 & 2 years old) and at some point they both have watched it although I think it is better for the younger one. The extras on the DVD were not that brilliant. It can be a bit hit a miss with these titles in regards to what else you get.

However if you are looking for another one in the series to add to your collection you won't go too far wrong with this title.

It's okay, but Baby Bridges is better

There's a much better DVD that just came out. It's "Baby Bridges: Space and Sea". It's the first of several videos that they plan to release. "Bridges" has real kids talking about real-world stuff with awesome footage that I don't mind my kids watching... instead of mind-numbing puppets and low quality production. Baby Bridges I hope will be a strong contender to Baby Einstein... I just feel ripped off with the Baby Einstein series. I really feel like they could've done better than closeups of toys and bad sock puppets. Again, Baby Bridges has a deep respect for kids and has real peer-to peer interaction, where the kids talk about real-world things in the ocean and in space while also showing some amazing footage... Check it out.
