    Keeps up the fun

(This review refers to the PC port.) This game is a much needed breath of fresh air. It's incredibly fun, and like Grand Theft Auto 3, it's very easy to pick up and play. You can easily play this game for hours on end, but you don't hours to be able to play. From the moment you start, it's seamless to start doing your thing and simply have fun.

The missions are quite fun. They're better than before, cooler, and just plain entertaining. I thought not being the nameless thug would be annoying, but it's better than ever. The story is perfect for a game of this type, and the game's atmosphere is flawless. Don't be surprised if you find a love for 80's music after playing this game.

The only downsides are like GTA3, there's bugs left in that really should have been taken care of. Also, it's rather obvious it's a PS2 port as the game's memory is rather short. You can clearly see a car coming, turn around so it's out of sight, and poof... gone. "Out of sight, out of mind." And like GTA3, after awhile the fun may wear thin and things may get repetitive depending on your tastes.

Easily the best video game ever.

I'm thirty-five and recently married. I hadn't played a video game since the late eighties--in fact, I hadn't even given them a second thought. Then everything changed. I watched my brother-in-law play GTA:VC one afternoon on his PS2. I was transfixed. I was appalled. I was, in a word, hooked. When it came out on XBOX, I bought a used copy at Blockbuster and haven't looked back.

First of all, the gameplay is phenomenal. The fact that you can freely roam the large Vice City map is worth the price of admission by itself.

Second, the voice acting is amazing--especially the commercials. Ray Liotta. Gary Busey. Burt Reynolds. Phillip Michael Thomas. Lee Majors. Robert Davi. Dennis Hopper. Luis Guzman. Fairuza Balk. Jenna Jameson. Danny Trejo. These are just a few of the names that make appearances. The radio material is so well produced, I can drive around all day listening to nothing but VCPR or KCHAT. The radio commercials are witty, sarcastic and spot-on.

Third, the story is great. You start as a nobody, recently released from jail. You finish (if you really ever do finish) as a Tony Montana-esque criminal psychopath.

Fourth--this is probably the most immoral game ever created... and it's beautiful. It's sick, sick, sick! Apart from the usual "waste him" missions, tasks include delivering drugs from an ice-cream van and driving a humvee drunk while avoiding the cops. I mean, one mission has you carving up a guy with a chainsaw! In addition, there are dozens of "rampage" icons throughout the game. When you run into one, you have two minutes to kill a certain amount of people a certain way (e.g. "kill 20 gang members in two minutes with a meat cleaver") It's never boring.

Conclusion: GTA:VC is the sickest, funniest, most engrossing and immersive video game ever made. It looks and plays better on the XBOX, but it's a blast on any platform. Rockstar's next GTA release, San Andreas, has immense shoes to fill.

There's a Reason this game has sold over 12 million copies.

Since GTA III, The gta series had jumped into the mainstream. it had a great 3rd person view and a great in-depth storyline. bottom line, it was straight up fun. but one year later, the series was rather brought back, but not in the department of fun, and awesomeness, but rather, in time.

Set in vice city, a fictional Miami in 1986, Tommy Vercetti is sent from Liberty city, a Fictional New York, by his mob boss, Sonny Forelli. He is set up in a drug trade and loses all his cash. Sonny is now mad with him, and it seems the whole world is out to get him. his plan? Take over Vice City.

This Game makes several different references to many different events of the time. It emulates the movie Scarface almost completely, with the exception of the outcome of Tommy Vercetti. it also poses several references to Miami Vice, a TV show at the time. For music, there are different stations to listen to, From Reggae to talk radio, to what might be the best Radio station of all time...V-rock.

Bottom line, if you want to play a good game, want to have fun, or just jump back to the 80s for a nostalgic feeling, I say GTA: Vice city is the way to go.

    Better than some movies

GTA:VC is the best video game I've ever played. Its more like a movie and has some really interesting (and sometimes hilarious) characters. Ray Liotta is PERFECT as Tommy Vercetti, a guy who's so badass, you learn to like the guy. I think GTA III was very good, but Vice City, for me is a masterpiece. The radio stations, the weapons, the cars, the boats, the motorcycles, the graphics, the nostalgia, its awesome. I can't wait for San Andreas. At this point, I don't think Rockstar can go wrong. Some people prefer GTAIII, and people have their own opinions, but I've never gotten bored with Vice City. A

    Welcome to Vice City folks!

Grand Theft Auto Vice City was waited for and well worth it.When I had bought this game I could not put it down. I just put my GTA3 on the shelf for a bit, because I'm not going to finish it right away as I have Vice City. This game has everything in GTA3 and more. You can pick up prostitutes , steal cars , kill people , and smash up cars/people. Now... who wouldn't have fun doing that!?

New features : This has actually come quite a way from GTA3. Instead of looking like the man from Rock Star's other title ''Max Payne'' you have your own look and attire. You're own attitude. Hell, you even have a face and a voice! Much different from GTA3 where you a faceless speechless tool , you will be very angry and arrogant (besides there are cheat codes to help you become other characters too!). There is about 50 different weapons in Grand Theft Auto Vice City.(including knives , bats , golf clubs chain saws , katanas , and glocks , machine guns , and explosives. Nearly 200 vehicles including the rumored motorcycle and helicopter. Also you know when you didn't start the fighting in Grand Theft Auto and the cops still arrested/shot you? Well In Vice City the cops will attack the real villain , and if you help the cops catch the villain you will be awarded with money for good citizen award. This also applies if you are being chased by cops (about 3-4 stars on wanted level), some citizens will go kama-kaze and attack you.

Another new feature that occurs is when you are being attacked by police they will shoot out your tires to make you slow down or crash , and also when having a high wanted level Police will drop down the helicopter from above. Also instead of having to stay at garages and alleys like in Grand Theft Auto 3 , in Vice City you have the ability to buy houses and apartments to stay and save your game at. Seeing as you can go into many buildings in the game , there is many stores and a mall where you can buy weapons such as grenades , machetes , knives , and also you can buy tools such as screwdrivers and hammers. Many other side missions such as Vigilante mode , Paramedic (with the ambulance) , Taxi driver (with the taxi and the zebra taxi) , and Pizza Boy (which IMO is very hard) , and fireman (with the fire truck) are offered in Vice City. Vehicles that include vigilante mode are the police cars , fbi cars , enforcers , boats , and the The Rhino .(the tank)

And of course, you get to re-live the 1980's with energetic music and colourful images.

I recommend this game to all you adults and older teens that have a sense a humor, or those whom CAN ACTUALLY tell fantasy from reality.

When Ray Liotta was asked why he decided to voice the main character of the game, he said: "for the money". Tommy Vercetti was meant to have a (voice only) cameo in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004), but since Ray Liotta was under the impression he was underpaid for this game, so he refused to return. In 2008, Sam Houser noted it was not that he was underpaid, but instead thinking he should've asked extra because of the game's later foundation success, to which Houser found considerably unsettling.

In the beta version of the game, Fort Baxter Air Base was going to be larger, and have its own runway and communications tower. However, they removed this from the final game, but in the view from the other island (when you are not on the island the air base is located) you can still see the tower. When you enter the island, it disappears. Among fans of the series, the tower is known as 'The Ghost Tower'.

    • Autres versions
There are three different versions of this game for the PlayStation 2, released in this order: Original Stand-Alone, Original Double Pack, and Haitian-Friendly (available as Stand-Alone or Double Pack). The differences between each are listed below. 1. Original Stand-Alone (bar code #10425 27145, Black disc banner): This is the version that came out on release day, October 29, 2002. 2. Original Double Pack (bar code #10425 27300, Red disc banner): This version can be found in the Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City combo package. When putting this package together, Rockstar Games took the time to get rid of the major glitches from the original version, as well make some other additional changes.
      • The "Trial By Dirt" mini-game has been altered to make it easier. The rain, Haitians on motorcycles, and barrels won't show up when you do it the first time. The second time around, the barrels will appear. If you beat your best time, rain will appear on your next attempt. If you beat your best time again, the Haitians on motorcycles will appear an your next attempt. Also, they fixed a glitch which caused the stats for that mission to not show up until you played "Test Drive" (the mini-game with the Landstalker), and only with the same time as that mini-game. This was basically a minor problem since it didn't affect getting 100% completion or cause other problems in the game.
      • The Lionel Ritchie song "Running With The Night" (on the Flash-FM radio station) has been removed. It is unknown whether Mr. Ritchie or his record company chose to have the song removed.
      • Many weapons have been renamed due to the fact the the original names were trademarked, and permission was obviously not obtained originally (or Rockstar Games chose to avoid having to pay any more royalty fees to the individual gun manufacturers). The Colt .45 is now the Pistol, the Python is now the .357, the Spaz Shotgun is now the S.P.A.S. 12, the Ingram Mac 10 is now the Mac, the Uzi 9mm is now the Uz-I, the MP5 is now the MP, the Ruger is now the Kruger, and the PSG-1 is now the .308 Sniper. Also some graphical changes were made to some of the weapons which can be seen when at the AmmuNation.
      • It is now easier to get the cop uniform in the Washington Beach Police Station as the number of cops wandering around on the first floor or the locker room have been reduced. This greatly reduces your chances of getting shot at while trying to nab the uniform because you get a 2-Star wanted level as soon as you enter the locker room (the wanted level will go away when you get the uniform).
      • The Detonator Bug has been fixed. The Detonator Bug in the Original Version occurs when using a car bomb or Remote Grenades in conjunction with Infinite Ammo (either with cheats or by getting 100% completion). After using the car bomb or Remote Grenades, you are stuck on the detonator because the detonator wasn't meant to have any ammo and the game gets confused when using the remote with Infinite Ammo on.
      • The blurry vision in "Boomshine Saigon" is far less in the Double Pack version, although the screen will still swerve around.
      • In the opening cutscene for "Recruitment Drive" (one of the movie studio missions), the big breasted woman with the pasties is now wearing a halter top instead. 3. Haitian-Friendly (Stand-Alone: bar code #10425 27388, Black disc banner; Double Pack: bar code #10425 21383, Red disc banner): More than a year after the original release of the game, a lot of Haitian-Americans got mad about how they were represented in Vice City. This prompted Rockstar Games to create a new version to remove or alter references about Haitians within the game. This version was released in early 2004 and comes as a Stand-Alone as well as being part of later runs of the Double Pack. The Greatest Hits copies of Vice City are also Haitian-Friendly.
      • References to Haitians have been either altered or removed in the following missions: "Guardian Angels" (given by Colonel Cortez), "Two Bit Hit" (given by Avery Carrington), "Cannon Fodder" (given by Umberto Robina), "Naval Engagement" (given by Umberto Robina), and "Trojan Voodoo" (given by Umberto Robina). In all fairness, references to Cubans have been either altered or removed from the following missions given by Auntie Poulet: "Juju Scramble", "Bombs Away!", and "Dirty Lickin's".
      • The Tear Gas Grenades that were behind the Washington Beach Police Station have now been replaced by regular Grenades.
      • The "Trial By Dirt" stat glitch which was fixed in the Original Double Pack version appears to have returned.
      • The cutscene for the mission "The Driver" has "In a Big Country" by Big Country playing in the background. All versions after this has "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash playing instead.
