Sabrina Carpenter does have the same initials as Santa Claus, so it only makes sense that she would have a musical comedy holiday special with guest stars on Netflix. The singer’s 50-minute segment, A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter, streaming as of the evening of Friday, Dec. 6 contained several familiar faces, both musically and in the comedy and acting worlds.

Sadly, there was no sign of Marcello Hernández’s Domingo, but Nico Hiraga played an impressive modern day Ebenezer “Ebby” Scrooge. Carpenter performed musical duets with powerhouse singers Tyla, Shania Twain, Kali Uchis and Chappell Roan while she acted alongside Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevingne, Kyle Mooney, Megan Stalter, Sean Astin, Owen Thiele and Jillian Bell.

It’s not your mama’s Christmas special. After a whirlwind year Sabrina Carpenter hosted her first variety special on Netflix.

“You could have been anywhere tonight..But instead you’re here half-watching a big screen while scrolling social media on a smaller screen and for that I’m forever grateful,” she said to her studio audience.

“A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter” leans into the popstar’s old Hollywood glamour look with a touch of her signature raunchy twist.

The Grammy-nominated singer joined forces with talented guest stars, including duets with Tyla, Chappell Roan, Kali Uchis and Shania Twain. A couple of the star’s celebrity friends also stopped by, including Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevingne, Nico Hiraga, Kyle Mooney, Owen Thiele, Megan Stalter, Kyle Mooney and Jillian Bell.

Sabrina Carpenter’s “Nonsense Christmas” show arrived on Netflix on Friday. Highlighting her 2023 “Fruitcake” EP, the 49-minute show was chock-full of celebrity appearances, sketch comedy and a blend of her festive tunes and Christmas classics with Carpenter’s signature remixed lyrics.

While some of Carpenter’s holiday tracks are as Nsfw as her beloved “Nonsense” outros and “Short n’ Sweet” lyrics, her Netflix special — directed by Sam Wrench — had the challenge of remaining TV-14. As Carpenter sang, “You can watch with your aunties, I might mention panties, but don’t fret, it’s TV-14,” before saying, “which means I’m allowed to say ‘fuck’ three times. Fuck! Just one left.”

Jon Hamm stopped by The Tonight Show to discuss his role in the upcoming Mean Girls movie and took the opportunity to showcase his impressive dramatic acting skills. Host Jimmy Fallon challenged the actor to recount a few popular Christmas carols in his best theatrical tone after mentioning Hamm’s recent Golden Globe nod for Fargo.

If you’re of a certain post-Baby Boomer age, you probably recognize Ronnie Spector for two things: Being in that Eddie Money video from the 80s where he sings, “Just like-a Ronnie said.” And being one of the featured performers on the album A Christmas Gift for You, which was released in 1963 and has been played on repeat ever since, especially in suburban shopping malls and Christmas parties hosted by your parents. The record is bursting at the seams with classic moments—like Darlene Love belting out “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” and Phil Spector’s creepy spoken-word greeting at the end, where he stops just short of saying, “Merry Christmas, everyone. Before we get to this week's recap, there are a couple of pieces of business to take care of this week. First up, some folks felt last week's recap didn't give sufficient credit to the kiss between Teddy and Ian. And perhaps I was so annoyed with the show that by the time we got to the kiss, I gave it short shrift in terms of credit. So to remedy that, I hereby give you Teddy and Ian macking on each other.

And let the record show, I thought it was a very good kiss and that both Trevor Donovan and Kyle Riabko are doing very good things with their roles. Just to be clear, I've never had an issue with either character or actor. Both are perfectly fine if neither is hugely groundbreaking. My issue has just been with the lack of screentime and character development.
